There is no universal post-update checklist for every Nothing phone. The safest sequence is to identify your model and installed build, check Settings > System > System Update for another release, review camera, microphone, and location permissions, then inspect only the Nothing features you actually use. Menu names and feature availability can differ by model, region, carrier, and build.
Start by confirming exactly what changed
An update can change menus without changing every feature on every phone. Before adjusting settings, record the device model and software build shown on your phone. This prevents you from following a menu path intended for a different Nothing model or a different release channel.
Check the model and build
- Open Settings and use the settings search for About phone (the exact location can vary).
- Note the phone name, Nothing OS version, Android version, and build number.
- Check whether the phone is on a stable release or an open-beta track. A beta label, enrollment notice, or beta-specific update screen indicates that the beta cautions apply.
Keep those details available if you need support. Nothing rolls software out in phases by region and, where applicable, by carrier. Its published timeline is indicative and can change, so a feature shown in an announcement may arrive later—or not be offered on your model or in your region.

Nothing recommends keeping the phone on the latest available software. Its support instructions put the update check at Settings > System > System Update; some builds display the final label as “System updates.” Re-open that screen after the phone restarts and install any additional release offered for your device.

Install under the recommended conditions
- Use a reliable Wi-Fi connection rather than mobile data for the download.
- Have at least 50% battery before starting. Nothing Support gives this as a minimum for a smooth download and installation.
- Leave the phone connected and avoid interrupting the installation or forcing a restart while it is applying the update.
If the screen says the phone is up to date, do not assume that an announcement applies to your handset. Compare the installed build with the model-specific release information and wait for the phased rollout if your region or carrier has not received it.
Review privacy and app permissions
A post-update privacy review is more useful than revoking every permission. OS 5.0 describes updated permission controls and privacy indicators for camera, microphone, and location access. Review which apps have access, then remove access that no longer matches how you use each app.
Audit camera, microphone, and location access
- Open Settings and search for Permission manager, Privacy, or the specific permission name. The wording and location vary by build.
- Open Camera, Microphone, and Location one at a time.
- For each list, check apps marked as allowed all the time, allowed only while in use, or denied.
- Change an app to the least access it needs. For example, an app that only needs location during navigation generally does not need continuous background access.
- Open an app afterward if you changed a permission and confirm that its essential function still works.
Do not blanket-revoke permissions from calling, navigation, camera, accessibility, or health apps if you rely on those functions. The goal is to remove unexpected access while preserving the behavior you want.

Use the privacy indicators as a live check
When an app uses the camera or microphone, the system privacy indicator should make that activity visible. If an indicator appears when you are not using a feature that needs the sensor, identify the app from the notification or privacy controls and reconsider its permission. Indicator design and the exact history screen depend on the installed build, so use the labels shown on your phone rather than relying on a fixed screenshot.

Consider Private Space only if you need separation
Private Space is optional; it is not a setting every update requires. Nothing describes it as a separately authenticated area for sensitive apps and files. Apps placed there are hidden from the normal app list, and their notifications are kept out of the ordinary profile. On supported builds, Nothing’s support route is Launcher > App drawer > Private Space; the swipe direction can vary by language or region. Set it up only when the additional sign-in boundary and hidden-app behavior fit your use case.
Inspect the Nothing features you actually use
Do not enable every new option simply because it appeared after an update. Check the controls that matter to you, and verify that their values survived the installation.
Glyph controls
OS 5.0 describes a dedicated Glyph App that centralizes Glyph settings. If you use the lights for calls, notifications, timers, or other alerts, open the Glyph App and confirm your patterns, schedules, brightness behavior, and per-app choices. If you never use Glyph, there is no reason to change these settings just because the app is present. The app may not appear on every model or every regional build.

Nothing describes redesigned Bluetooth controls in Quick Settings for OS 5.0. Pull down Quick Settings and open the Bluetooth tile to check how paired devices are listed and connected. Reconnect the earbuds, car system, keyboard, or other device you depend on. A redesigned tile is a user-interface change, not evidence that every paired device needs to be deleted and added again; reset a pairing only if the device itself fails to connect.

Check only related toggles
After confirming Glyph and Bluetooth, scan Quick Settings for tiles you use regularly and make sure they still have the intended state. Avoid changing unrelated network, display, or battery controls without a specific problem to solve; their names and behavior can vary between Nothing models and Android builds.
Separate stable-update behavior from OS 5.0 beta behavior
Nothing’s OS 5.0 Open Beta is pre-release software. Its warnings should not be presented as a prediction for every stable update.
If you installed the open beta
- Back up important photos, messages, authenticator data, and other irreplaceable information before installing or continuing with the beta.
- Expect possible effects on stability, battery life, and performance because the software is still pre-release.
- Keep a record of the build number and beta enrollment status so you can describe the exact software when reporting a fault.
Nothing specifically states that a beta phone may temporarily become warmer and consume more power after updating, with the behavior expected to return to normal shortly after installation. That statement belongs to the beta guidance. It is not a guarantee that every Nothing update causes heat or battery drain, and it is not a promised battery-life improvement.
If you are on a stable release
Use the installed build and your own symptoms as the baseline. A stable update does not require you to turn off features, clear all app data, or change battery settings by default. If an issue appears, first identify whether it is limited to one app, one Bluetooth device, or one system feature; then check the relevant permission or feature screen rather than applying a blanket reset.

Account for model, region, and support status
OS 5.0 is not universal
Nothing’s OS 5.0 information distinguishes beta availability from general release and notes regional and carrier dependencies. Do not assume that every Nothing phone has OS 5.0 or that every listed feature is available on every model. The phone’s About screen and the update page are the authoritative combination for your device.
Check current support information before expecting another release
The OS 5.0 page listed Phone (1), Phone (2), and CMF Phone 1 as having reached the end of major software support and therefore not receiving OS 5.0. That is time-sensitive rollout information, not a permanent rule for all future updates. Confirm the current support status for your exact model before concluding that an update is missing.
When a menu is missing
- Recheck the model, region, carrier, and full build number.
- Search Settings for the feature name instead of relying on a remembered menu path.
- Look for a staged rollout or a feature restricted to a particular Nothing OS release.
- Do not install an unrelated beta merely to obtain a menu that is not offered for your device.
A practical post-update sequence

What to do when something seems wrong
The update or feature is not offered
Compare your build with the model and region named in Nothing’s release information. A phased rollout, carrier approval, unsupported model, or end-of-major-support status can explain the difference. Keep checking the system-update screen rather than treating a public announcement as proof that your phone should already show the same option.

A permission change breaks an app
Return to the relevant permission manager and grant the narrowest access that restores the function: while-in-use location instead of continuous location, for example, when the app supports that choice. Test the app immediately and leave unrelated permissions unchanged.

Bluetooth looks different
Use the redesigned Quick Settings tile to select the intended paired device. If one accessory still fails, verify that the accessory is powered on and then inspect its individual connection entry. Do not erase every pairing simply because the tile layout changed.
The beta phone is warm or using more power
Nothing’s beta guidance says this can happen temporarily after installation and should return to normal shortly afterward. Monitor the phone while it settles, keep your important data backed up, and distinguish this narrowly described beta effect from a general claim about stable Nothing OS updates. Persistent or severe problems should be reported through Nothing’s support channel with the model and build number.
The short answer
Change only what the update makes relevant: verify the build and another update, audit camera/microphone/location permissions, and check Glyph or Bluetooth controls if you use them. Treat Private Space as optional. Finally, determine whether you are on a stable release or the OS 5.0 Open Beta before interpreting heat, battery, stability, or performance behavior. Every menu path remains subject to your model, region, carrier, and installed build.
