The five-monster shortlist in this theory is Dalamadur, Akantor, Dire Miralis, Yama Tsukami, and Akant—but none is confirmed for Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance. Capcom’s September 3, 2026 announcement names Lao-Shan Lung as a central story threat and introduces the Skybound Eyrie, Araketa, and Gundoraja; it does not publish a complete returning-monster roster. The five names below are predictions, not promises.
What monsters are confirmed for Ascendance?
Capcom USA’s September 3, 2026 announcement, published on PlayStation Blog, says the expansion continues the story several years after the base game’s ending. Lao-Shan Lung arrives as a central threat, and hunters travel to the Skybound Eyrie, a new locale high above the clouds.
- Araketa is a Bird Wyvern that uses air currents from its wings to fly at high speed and coordinates pack movement with calls.
- Gundoraja is an Elder Dragon that can control storm clouds.
- The announcement also mentions expanded Guardian Monster habitats and ecological disturbances.
These are announced details, not a final roster. The post says further mechanics and weapon details would come later, so it is a snapshot dated September 3, 2026. Joseph Bustos, Social Media and Community Manager at Capcom USA, described the expansion as “Coming to PlayStation 5 in 2027” with new monsters, a new locale, and a story that goes beyond the base-game ending.

Which five returning monsters does the theory predict?
The theory selects five candidates by weighing popularity, time away from recent mainline appearances, and fit with the expansion. Its author gives the greatest weight to fit. The roles below describe the theory’s reasoning; they are not information from Capcom.
#1 Best Overall
- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
| Candidate | Proposed role in the theory | Why the author considers it |
|---|---|---|
| Dalamadur | Headline-scale setpiece or title update | The author argues that a huge, visually spectacular monster could suit a large vertical arena. |
| Akantor | Base roster or title update | The theory suggests Ukanlos as a natural counterpart and sees the pair as a coherent package. |
| Dire Miralis | Black-dragon title-update wildcard | The author imagines adapting its aquatic-feeling encounter without restoring full underwater combat. |
| Yama Tsukami | Airborne or vertical setpiece | Its floating, drifting concept is the basis for a possible connection to a sky locale. |
| Akant | Grounded mid-tier roster addition | The theory presents it as a more conventional grounded option alongside its larger-scale candidates. |
All five are speculative. The Skybound Eyrie’s altitude may make some concepts seem thematically compatible, but setting resemblance is not evidence that a monster is included.
How does the theory filter its picks?
Fit with the announced expansion
Fit is the theory’s leading criterion: it favors ideas that could work with vertical spaces, large-scale fights, and an apparent Elder Dragon focus. The official announcement supports the existence of a high-altitude locale and a story involving Lao-Shan Lung. It does not establish that the expansion will use the specific encounter designs imagined for any candidate.

Time away from recent mainline appearances
The shortlist favors monsters the author regards as long absent from recent mainline games. That is the article’s selection rationale, not a comprehensive audit of every franchise appearance.
Popularity or fan demand
The theory says it begins from a community anniversary popularity ranking, but the ranking’s publisher, year, and underlying figures are not established here. No numerical rank or verified demand statistic should be inferred from that reference.

The author also excludes variants and deviants from the base-return shortlist and shifts some end-boss or difficult-to-pair candidates into honorable mentions. These are choices in the theory’s filter, not confirmed limits on Capcom’s roster planning.
Which other monsters are honorable mentions?
The theory names Old/White Fatalis, Ahtal-Ka, Great Jaggi, Ceadeus, Namielle, Zinogre, Nakarkos, and Deviljho as near-misses or honorable mentions. The author’s reasons include variant or deviant status, perceived competition with an end-boss or siege role, not meeting the absence criterion, or a mismatch with the proposed tier. Those judgments explain the shortlist; they do not rule these monsters out of the expansion.

What is required to start the expansion?
According to the same September 3, 2026 announcement, players need the base Monster Hunter Wilds game, Hunter Rank 40, and completion of “Awaking From a Dream” to start the expansion story and enter Master Rank at launch. The post gives 2027 as the release window and says the expansion will be available on PlayStation 5.
