You do not need to finish another game before starting Battle for Grayskull. Mattel currently describes it as a faction-based RPG in which you join He-Man or Skeletor in the war for Eternia. The official information available does not identify a required predecessor, a confirmed release date, or a complete platform and territory list, so treat it as a standalone game until Mattel says otherwise.
If you want extra Eternia context, several related games exist in different formats. They are optional ways to sample the setting, not verified narrative prerequisites. The most useful choice depends on whether you want a quick mobile session, couch co-op, a physical Castle Grayskull game, or historical franchise background.

Mattel’s broader franchise overview describes Masters of the Universe as a blend of swords-and-sorcery action and futuristic science-fiction technology. That combination is useful context for a new player, but it is not a requirement to understand the RPG. You can approach Battle for Grayskull as a new entry and learn its version of Eternia as you play.

An action runner emphasizes immediate movement and repeated short sessions. It can give you a feel for the visual identity, names, and heroes used in Mattel’s current mobile presentation without asking you to study older lore. It cannot, on the evidence available, teach the systems, story, faction choices, or progression of Battle for Grayskull; those features have not been documented as shared mechanics.

What to check before installing
- Search for the exact title in your device’s official store and confirm that the publisher is Mattel Game Studios.
- Read the current device and operating-system requirements shown in the listing, because mobile support changes over time.
- Check whether the He-Man Chase season or any other seasonal feature is active in your region; seasonal wording is not a guarantee of permanent access.
- Decide whether you want a quick optional taste of the franchise or a substitute for an RPG. This runner is the former, not the latter.
If you want multiplayer before the RPG
Masters of the Universe: Legends Unite
Amazon Game Studios announced Masters of the Universe: Legends Unite on March 31, 2026 as a couch co-op title for Luna GameNight. The announcement describes card-collecting battles and competitive trials, and gives June 5, 2026 as its intended launch date alongside the theatrical release of the Masters of the Universe movie.
That date is an announcement, not a guarantee that the game is playable in every country or that the service has the same catalog everywhere. Because the date has passed, check the current Luna catalog and your local service eligibility rather than relying on the announcement alone. A missing listing may reflect territory, subscription, device, or catalog changes rather than a problem with your account.
This is the best fit for a group that wants to play together on one screen and compare a lighter, battle-focused format with the solo or party structure you expect from an RPG. It is not evidence that the two games share a campaign. No official material reviewed says that a card, trial, character unlock, or victory in Legends Unite carries into Battle for Grayskull.

- Search for the full title, not just “Masters” or “Legends,” to avoid similarly named listings.
- Confirm that couch co-op is supported on the devices and controllers you plan to use.

The tabletop format changes what “preparing” means. You may become familiar with the importance of Castle Grayskull as a setting and spend time making decisions around a shared board, but you will not be learning the controls, interface, camera, or progression system of the faction-based RPG. Treat it as a separate adaptation of the property.
Before buying, verify that the listing includes the language, components, and player information you need, and check local stock. The available product information confirms the Castle Grayskull focus but does not establish a universal retail price, an identical regional edition, or a direct story link to Battle for Grayskull.
What about older Masters of the Universe video games?
There is no reliable, current official catalog in the available information that identifies every legacy Masters of the Universe game still playable, where each one can be purchased, or which regions support it. If you find a legacy title through an official storefront, an archived collection, or a legitimate physical release, evaluate it as optional history. Confirm the publisher, platform, operating-system support, regional listing, and any required account or hardware before spending money. Skip the back catalogue when your goal is simply to play the RPG
Start with Battle for Grayskull when it becomes officially available if you want the faction-based RPG itself. Nothing currently confirmed requires you to complete another title first, and no verified save transfer, story prerequisite, or account reward has been announced.
