Choose a monochrome laser all-in-one if your work is mostly text and you do not need color; choose a color model for documents that rely on color. Then check the exact model for fax, automatic two-sided printing, and—separately—automatic two-sided scanning. The Brother MFC-L2900DWXL and Canon Color imageCLASS MF753Cdw II illustrate two different feature sets, not universal winners: these recommendations are based on published specifications, not hands-on testing.
Start with the work you need the printer to do
Choose monochrome for text-first work
A monochrome laser all-in-one can suit a home office or small business that mainly prints text and has no need for color. The Brother MFC-L2900DWXL is one manufacturer-listed example: it prints, copies, scans, and faxes, and Brother rates it at up to 36 pages per minute. That speed is a published rating, not a promise of the result for every job or setup.
Choose color when documents need it
Color is useful for materials such as charts and color-coded documents. It also means accounting for multiple toner supplies when considering ongoing costs. The Canon Color imageCLASS MF753Cdw II is a color example; Canon lists it as a print, scan, copy, and fax model with a rated speed of up to 35 pages per minute on Letter paper. Neither example establishes which printer will cost less to own: that comparison would require current supply prices and comparable usage assumptions.

Check the functions and duplex features on the exact model
“All-in-one” does not guarantee fax. Some models combine print, copy, and scan; others add fax. Xerox’s product category, for example, lists the monochrome B225 as a three-function model and the color C325 as a four-function model. Confirm the functions of the precise model you are considering.

Also distinguish automatic two-sided printing from two-sided scanning. A printer can print on both sides without scanning both sides of an original automatically. For multi-page double-sided documents, check the scanner’s method as well as its feeder capacity.

Manufacturer-rated speeds and listed monthly-use figures are specifications, not guarantees of actual throughput or a standalone workload recommendation. Consult the full documentation for the model before treating a monthly-use figure as a suitable duty cycle.

Match the feeder and paper handling to your workflow
For occasional single-page scans, ADF capacity may matter little. For batches of invoices, contracts, or other multi-page documents, a larger feeder reduces how often you reload it. If originals are double-sided, look for an explicit duplex-scan specification and whether it is single-pass. Brother specifies single-pass duplex scanning with the MFC-L2900DWXL’s 50-page ADF; Canon lists a 50-sheet two-sided ADF for the MF753Cdw II, but the cited specification does not say whether scanning is single-pass.
Consider specialty paper separately from the main tray. Canon lists a 50-sheet multipurpose tray alongside the MF753Cdw II’s 250-sheet cassette, giving it a distinct option for alternate media. Check the supported sizes and media types in the complete model documentation before buying for labels or other specialty stock.

Check connections, supplies, and availability
Connections and workflows
Match the printer’s listed connections to the way your office works. The Brother MFC-L2900DWXL lists dual-band wireless, Ethernet, and USB 2.0; the Xerox B225 and C325 category listings specify Wi-Fi. If mobile or cloud printing is important, verify that the exact model supports the services and devices you use; a general wireless specification does not establish support for every workflow.
Supplies and ongoing cost
Supply yields can help you estimate replacement frequency, but they do not establish cost per page. Brother lists approximately 4,200 pages total for the two toner cartridges included with the MFC-L2900DWXL and rates its DR830 drum at 15,000 pages. These are Brother’s stated yields, not independently verified results. Real supply life and cost depend on usage, and a fair model-to-model cost comparison also requires current cartridge prices and comparable yield assumptions.

Verify whether a model is current in your region
Product status and stock can change by place and retailer. Brother marks the MFC-L2750DWXL discontinued; its listing gives up to 36 ppm, approximately 7,500 pages of in-box toner, a 50-page single-pass duplex ADF, and a two-year limited warranty. Treat it as legacy context unless you verify local stock and regional support. Do not infer that a discontinued model is a current recommendation from its specifications alone.

- Compare listed connections with your network and verify specific mobile or cloud services on the model page.
- Review toner and drum compatibility, stated yields, and current replacement prices before estimating ownership cost.
