Kingdom Hearts – The Story So Far is the PS4 package that combines KINGDOM HEARTS HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX with KINGDOM HEARTS HD 2.8 FINAL CHAPTER PROLOGUE. The official North American listing names nine entries in total, but three are presented as video rather than conventional, fully playable games: 358/2 Days and Re:coded are HD-remastered cinematics, while χ Back Cover is a movie. KINGDOM HEARTS III is not included.
You can verify the package contents and its PS4, language and audio details on Square Enix’s North American product page.
At a glance: what The Story So Far contains
The collection is best understood as two earlier compilations sold together, not as a single newly developed game. One component covers the releases grouped under 1.5+2.5 ReMIX; the other is the 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue set. Together, their official contents list has nine named entries.
| Component | Entry | Format in the collection |
|---|---|---|
| KINGDOM HEARTS HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX | KINGDOM HEARTS FINAL MIX | Game edition |
| KINGDOM HEARTS Re:Chain of Memories | Game edition | |
| KINGDOM HEARTS 358/2 Days | HD-remastered cinematics | |
| KINGDOM HEARTS II FINAL MIX | Game edition | |
| KINGDOM HEARTS Birth by Sleep Final MIX | Game edition | |
| KINGDOM HEARTS Re:coded | HD-remastered cinematics | |
| KINGDOM HEARTS HD 2.8 FINAL CHAPTER PROLOGUE | KINGDOM HEARTS Dream Drop Distance HD | Game edition |
| KINGDOM HEARTS 0.2 Birth by Sleep –A fragmentary passage– | Game edition | |
| KINGDOM HEARTS χ Back Cover | Movie |
Thus, “nine games” is a convenient shorthand but not a technically accurate description. The package contains six game editions and three story presentations that you watch instead of play in the usual sense.

Everything in KINGDOM HEARTS HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX
The first half of The Story So Far is the 1.5+2.5 ReMIX compilation. Its six entries are:
KINGDOM HEARTS FINAL MIX
This is the Final Mix edition listed as the first game in the 1.5+2.5 portion. It is a game edition, so it belongs to the playable part of the package rather than the cinematic supplements.
KINGDOM HEARTS Re:Chain of Memories
Re:Chain of Memories is the second game edition in the 1.5+2.5 list. The title appears as a complete game entry, not as a movie or a collection of cut-scenes.

KINGDOM HEARTS 358/2 Days
This entry is not supplied as a conventional playable game in The Story So Far. Square Enix identifies it as HD-remastered cinematics. You follow its story through the remastered video presentation; you should not expect the original game’s normal play experience from this item.
KINGDOM HEARTS II FINAL MIX
The 1.5+2.5 listing includes the Final Mix edition of Kingdom Hearts II as a game edition. It is one of the playable titles grouped in this compilation.

Note: This device is not compatible with Linux.
- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (5-in-1, 4K HDMI), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
KINGDOM HEARTS Birth by Sleep Final MIX
Birth by Sleep Final Mix is also included as a game edition. Its placement in the 1.5+2.5 component is why buying this package gives you that Final Mix release alongside the other entries in the same compilation.
KINGDOM HEARTS Re:coded
Re:coded is the second non-playable presentation in the 1.5+2.5 group. Like 358/2 Days, it is supplied as HD-remastered cinematics, not as a standard game you launch and control from start to finish.
Everything in KINGDOM HEARTS HD 2.8 FINAL CHAPTER PROLOGUE
The second component contributes three more named entries:
KINGDOM HEARTS Dream Drop Distance HD
Dream Drop Distance HD is listed as a game edition in the 2.8 compilation. It is therefore part of the playable game portion of The Story So Far.
KINGDOM HEARTS 0.2 Birth by Sleep –A fragmentary passage–
The 2.8 set also includes 0.2 Birth by Sleep –A fragmentary passage– as a game edition. Its full title is worth checking when comparing product listings, because it is distinct from Birth by Sleep Final Mix in the 1.5+2.5 component.

- Sleek 7-in-1 USB-C Hub: Features an HDMI port, two USB-A 3.0 ports, and a USB-C data port, each providing 5Gbps transfer speeds. It also includes a USB-C PD input port for charging up to 100W and dual SD and TF card slots, all in a compact design.
- Flawless 4K@60Hz Video with HDMI: Delivers exceptional clarity and smoothness with its 4K@60Hz HDMI port, making it ideal for high-definition presentations and entertainment. (Note: Only the HDMI port supports video projection; the USB-C port is for data transfer only.)
- Double Up on Efficiency: The two USB-A 3.0 ports and a USB-C port support a fast 5Gbps data rate, significantly boosting your transfer speeds and improving productivity.
- Fast and Reliable 85W Charging: Offers high-capacity, speedy charging for laptops up to 85W, so you spend less time tethered to an outlet and more time being productive.
- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (7-in-1), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
KINGDOM HEARTS χ Back Cover
χ Back Cover is explicitly identified as a movie. It is the third video presentation in the package, alongside the HD-remastered cinematics for 358/2 Days and Re:coded.
How many playable games are actually included?
The official contents list has nine named entries, but its format labels matter:
- Six game editions: KINGDOM HEARTS FINAL MIX, Re:Chain of Memories, KINGDOM HEARTS II FINAL MIX, Birth by Sleep Final MIX, Dream Drop Distance HD and 0.2 Birth by Sleep –A fragmentary passage–.
- Two cinematic compilations: 358/2 Days and Re:coded.
- One movie: χ Back Cover.
If you are deciding whether the package replaces a collection of nine playable titles, the answer is no. It provides six playable game editions plus three story-focused videos. That distinction is especially important for someone expecting to control the characters in every listed chapter.
Does The Story So Far include Kingdom Hearts III?
No. KINGDOM HEARTS III is not part of The Story So Far. The package stops with the entries listed in 1.5+2.5 ReMIX and 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue.
Later bundles use similar names but are different products. In an April 17, 2025 announcement, Square Enix Europe described a physical PS4 All-In-One Package that combines the two Story So Far collections with Kingdom Hearts III; that package was scheduled for release in Europe on June 12, 2025. The announcement is historical release information, not a guarantee of current retailer stock or pricing. You can read the announcement at Square Enix’s European press site.

Because the All-In-One name adds a later game, seeing “All-In-One” in a listing does not mean you have found another name for The Story So Far. Check the exact product title and contents before buying.
The separate Collection [I–III] package
Square Enix Japan also lists a separately named KINGDOM HEARTS Collection [I〜III]. Its purpose is different from The Story So Far: the Japanese collection page lists Kingdom Hearts III and its Re Mind downloadable content alongside the earlier collections. It is therefore a package for readers specifically looking for the series through III, rather than the earlier-only Story So Far set.
The Japanese page also says that its packaged version requires an internet connection to download additional data. That requirement belongs to that separately named Collection [I〜III] edition. It should not automatically be applied to The Story So Far, whose North American product listing does not provide the same edition-specific download warning. See the exact Japanese product information at Square Enix Japan’s Collection [I〜III] page.
| Package name | What it adds or contains | Key limitation or distinction |
|---|---|---|
| The Story So Far | 1.5+2.5 ReMIX plus 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue; nine named entries, including six game editions, two cinematic compilations and one movie | Does not include Kingdom Hearts III |
| All-In-One Package | The two Story So Far collections plus Kingdom Hearts III | Separate later package; the European announcement concerned a physical PS4 release scheduled for June 12, 2025 |
| Collection [I–III] | Earlier collections plus Kingdom Hearts III and Re Mind, according to the Japanese product page | Separate Japanese package; its packaged edition requires an internet connection to download additional data |
Platform, language and edition details
The official North American product page identifies The Story So Far as a PS4 product. It lists English and Japanese text languages and English audio. Those are edition details for the listed North American product, so do not assume that a differently marketed regional or platform release has identical language options without checking its own product page.
The European All-In-One announcement refers specifically to a physical PS4 package and gives a scheduled 2025 release date. That date tells you when the announced edition was planned, not whether a copy is currently in stock, what it costs now, or whether every retailer carries it.

How to read a retailer listing without buying the wrong package
Use this checklist when a listing uses “collection,” “1.5,” “2.8” or “All-In-One” in its title:
- Confirm the product name. “The Story So Far” is the earlier package; “All-In-One” and “Collection [I–III]” are separate bundles.
- Look for both component compilations. The Story So Far should identify HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX and HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue.
- Count formats, not just names. Expect nine listed entries, but remember that 358/2 Days and Re:coded are cinematics and χ Back Cover is a movie.
- Check for Kingdom Hearts III. Its presence means you are looking at a later bundle, not The Story So Far alone.
- Check the platform. The official North American Story So Far listing is for PS4.
- Check regional information. The North American page specifies English and Japanese text and English audio; another edition may present different information.
- Read download requirements for the exact edition. The additional-data download warning is documented for the Japanese Collection [I–III] packaged version, not as a general rule for every Kingdom Hearts compilation.
What “story so far” means in practical terms
The title describes the package’s role: it gathers the pre–Kingdom Hearts III collections into one PS4 product. It is useful for someone who wants the earlier game editions and the story videos in one purchase, but it is not a complete package through the third numbered game.
The videos also affect how you plan your time. A normal game entry is something you play; a cinematic compilation or movie is something you watch. If your goal is to experience every listed story segment, include viewing time for the three video entries rather than budgeting for nine equal-length games. If your goal is specifically nine playable games, this package does not meet that description.

Choose The Story So Far when you want the PS4 package containing 1.5+2.5 ReMIX and 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue. It includes six game editions, HD-remastered cinematics for 358/2 Days and Re:coded, and the χ Back Cover movie. Do not buy it expecting Kingdom Hearts III. For III, look for a clearly labeled later bundle such as All-In-One or the separately named Collection [I–III], then verify the exact region, platform and edition requirements.
