Short answer: Buy KINGDOM HEARTS Collection [I~III] if you want the broadest package and use Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, Steam or Epic Games Store. It combines the three current collections and includes Kingdom Hearts III with its Re Mind DLC. Nintendo’s US store lists the Switch 2 bundle at a regular $74.99. Choose HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX instead if you are starting smaller or still use the original Nintendo Switch.
What each Kingdom Hearts collection contains
The names are similar, but the packages are not interchangeable. The most important distinction is that some components are playable games while others are story films or cutscene compilations. The three-part bundle contains the following products:

| Collection | Playable games and chapters | Film or cutscene material | Best fit |
|---|---|---|---|
| HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX | Kingdom Hearts Final Mix; Kingdom Hearts Re:Chain of Memories; Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix; Birth by Sleep Final Mix | HD cinematic compilations of 358/2 Days and Re:coded | A lower-commitment starting point, or the only one of these new collections available on the original Switch |
| HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue | Dream Drop Distance HD; 0.2 Birth by Sleep – A fragmentary passage – | χ Back Cover film | Players moving on from 1.5+2.5 who want the next major story material |
| Kingdom Hearts III + Re Mind | Kingdom Hearts III and the Re Mind DLC | None listed as a separate compilation | Someone who specifically wants the third numbered game and its additional scenario |
| Collection [I~III] | Everything in all three rows above | Includes both cinematic compilations and the χ Back Cover film | Players who want the widest documented package on a supported platform |
Do not interpret Collection [I~III] as every Kingdom Hearts release ever made. Its official contents are these three collections, and two 1.5+2.5 entries are presented as HD cutscene compilations rather than playable games. The same applies to the film included in 2.8.

Choose Collection [I~III] for the complete current package
This is the straightforward choice for a new player with a supported modern platform. You receive the first two numbered games, their connected side stories, the 2.8 bridge material, Kingdom Hearts III, and Re Mind in one purchase. It avoids having to decide later whether to add 2.8 or the third game.

- KINGDOM HEARTS III
The bundle is also the strongest value at Nintendo’s US regular prices. Three separate Switch 2 collections are listed at $39.99 each, or $119.97 together. Collection [I~III] is listed at $74.99, a $44.98 difference before any sale or ownership discount. These are Nintendo US reference prices current in 2026, not a guaranteed price in another country or storefront.
Choose HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX for a smaller first purchase
Buy 1.5+2.5 when you want to begin with the earliest major arc without committing to all three collections. It gives you four playable releases, including Kingdom Hearts Final Mix and Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix, plus the two cinematic story packages. It is also the only one of these newly listed collections offered for the original Nintendo Switch.
This option makes sense if you are unsure whether the series’ action combat, card-based Re:Chain of Memories systems, or timeline-heavy storytelling will suit you. You can add the later collections after finishing the material you actually enjoy.
Choose HD 2.8 when you already have 1.5+2.5
2.8 is a follow-up purchase rather than a complete starting point. It contains Dream Drop Distance HD, the short 0.2 Birth by Sleep – A fragmentary passage –, and the χ Back Cover film. If you already own 1.5+2.5 and want the next set of playable chapters and connective story material, 2.8 fills that gap.
Choose Kingdom Hearts III + Re Mind for one specific game
This package is appropriate when you are buying only the third numbered game, returning after playing earlier releases elsewhere, or replacing a version that does not include the DLC. Check the platform’s product description carefully: the package includes both Kingdom Hearts III and Re Mind, rather than the base game alone.

| Epic Games Store | The new collection products and the three-part bundle | Square Enix announced availability beginning October 9, 2026 |
Square Enix announced the new lineup on October 8, 2026. Store pages can differ by country, edition and release timing, so verify the exact product name on your platform before paying. The original Switch limitation is the decisive hardware difference: moving to Switch 2 is what opens access to the full package in Nintendo’s current lineup.
Switch 2 pricing, bundle value and the Long Night Keyblade
Nintendo’s US listing gives the clearest current price reference:
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
- Collection [I~III]: $74.99 regular price on Switch 2.
- Each individual collection: $39.99 regular price on Switch 2.
Buying all three separately at those regular prices would total $119.97, so the listed bundle is $44.98 less. That comparison applies only to Nintendo’s US listing at the stated time; it is not a global price guarantee, and promotions can change the difference.
Nintendo also says that buying Collection [I~III] or Kingdom Hearts III + Re Mind on Switch 2 includes the platform-exclusive Long Night Keyblade for use in Kingdom Hearts III. The bonus is tied to those Switch 2 purchases, so do not assume that an unrelated platform edition includes it.
Physical versus digital: the download requirement
Square Enix lists a physical edition of Collection [I~III], but the boxed version requires an internet connection to download additional data. A disc or cartridge therefore does not mean that every file is present on the physical media. Before buying a boxed copy, check the regional product listing, platform, language information and available storage space.
Current retailer stock and exact physical SKUs vary by market. The publisher’s announcement confirms the physical edition and its additional-download requirement, but it does not establish that every country has the same packaging or inventory.
Discounts for existing owners and save-transfer rules
Switch cloud owners
Nintendo says owners of all Switch cloud titles individually, or owners of the cloud Integrum Masterpiece, may qualify for 50% off the Switch 2 native games and the Switch 2 bundle. Eligibility depends on the titles attached to your Nintendo account and the storefront’s upgrade offer. Open the product page while signed into the purchasing account and confirm the reduced price before checking out.
Other digital owners
Square Enix documents platform-specific discounted purchases for prior digital owners. The exact offer depends on your original platform, account and the current storefront. A previous purchase is not automatically a universal license for every new version, so check the upgrade banner or ownership section rather than buying a second copy at full price.
Save compatibility
- PS4 to PS5: Square Enix says saves do not transfer for these upgrades.
- Xbox One to current Xbox platforms: The announcement likewise says saves do not transfer.
- Switch cloud versions to Switch 2: Nintendo and Square Enix state that save data can transfer for Switch cloud owners.
Save transfer and purchase eligibility are separate questions. You may qualify for a discount without carrying progress forward, or transfer a save while still needing to verify the applicable upgrade price.
A practical buying checklist
- Identify your hardware. If you have the original Switch, limit your comparison to HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX. If you have Switch 2, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, Steam or Epic, compare all four packages.
- List what you already own. Check whether you have a cloud edition, the cloud Integrum Masterpiece, or an older digital release that may unlock an upgrade discount.
- Separate playable games from video content. Count 358/2 Days, Re:coded and χ Back Cover as cinematic material when deciding how much playable content you want.
- Compare the local total. On Switch 2, use the $74.99 and $39.99 Nintendo US references only as a baseline; your country’s currency, taxes and promotions may differ.
- Check save requirements. If you are moving from PS4 or Xbox One, plan to start without the old save. Switch cloud owners should confirm the transfer process on their account.
- Choose delivery format. Physical Collection [I~III] requires an internet download, while a digital purchase requires the usual storefront download and storage capacity.
- Verify the exact listing before payment. Confirm platform, included DLC, language support, edition and any upgrade price shown for your account.
Languages and the planned 2027 subtitle update
Square Enix says Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese and Korean subtitles are planned for early summer 2027 on several platform versions, with physical editions carrying those subtitles also planned. This is a forward-looking publisher announcement, not a feature you should assume is available in October 2026. If those subtitles are essential, check the specific platform notice and regional edition when the update or new physical stock is released.

Assuming the bundle contains every entry as a game
It does not. 1.5+2.5 presents 358/2 Days and Re:coded as HD cinematic compilations, and 2.8 includes the χ Back Cover film. If you require every story chapter in playable form, this bundle’s official contents do not promise that.

Buying the original Switch version expecting the full trilogy
The original Switch listing is limited to HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX. The three-part package belongs to the newer platform lineup, including Switch 2.
Assuming an old purchase guarantees a free upgrade
Upgrade pricing is platform- and ownership-specific. Confirm the discount in the relevant store, and check save compatibility separately.
Ignoring the physical download requirement
The physical Collection [I~III] edition still needs an internet connection for additional data. Make sure your console can connect and has room for the download.

Bottom-line decision
For a new player on a supported modern platform, Collection [I~III] is the most comprehensive and, at Nintendo’s listed US regular prices, the least expensive way to obtain all three current collections together. HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX is the right lower-cost entry point and the only option in this lineup for the original Switch. Existing owners should check upgrade discounts and save-transfer limits before repurchasing, while physical buyers must plan for an additional download.
