Verizon says only parent-approved contacts can call or text the watch. Parents manage contact roles and permissions in the Verizon Family app. The watch also supports calls, video calls, and messages with Gizmo Buddies on other approved Gizmo watches. That specific watch-to-watch system matters if the child needs to communicate with friends or relatives using a different kind of phone. Apple Watch For Your Kids: a managed cellular Apple Watch

- Check the adult’s phone and account requirements. Apple requires an adult iPhone for setup and management. Garmin communication is described through Garmin Jr.; Verizon contact permissions are managed in Verizon Family. Confirm the app and account needs for the adults who will manage the watch.
- Confirm carrier, coverage, and location eligibility. Cellular service and supported carriers matter for Apple Watch For Your Kids; Garmin connected features require its active subscription. Availability and terms vary by country, and the carrier-specific options described here are U.S.-leaning.
- Compare the full recurring service cost. The available sources do not establish a current total plan-cost comparison for Verizon and T-Mobile watches.
