For the best image quality among the five keychain toy cameras tested, Joshua Waller’s pick is the Life Camera S168. He found its images clearer and its color more reasonable than the other models, and reported that it can also work as a webcam. That is one reviewer’s hands-on judgment, not a standardized test or a guarantee about every unit.
What the five-camera comparison found
Waller compared the Life Camera S168, Thumb Camera G6 (also labelled 1984), PocketSnap Keychain Camera (1982), a generic Retro 720p S142, and Kodak Charmera. His comparison describes qualitative results and sample images, not controlled laboratory measurements. Choose the S168 if image quality matters most
Among these five reviewed cameras, the S168 is the clearest choice for someone who wants the best-looking results Waller observed. His description of the files as apparently genuine 2MP output is an impression from the comparison, not a verified sensor specification or independent resolution measurement. Its webcam capability may be useful, but the review does not establish compatibility details for every computer or operating system.

Consider the G6 for extra modes
The Thumb Camera G6 offers more than still photos: the review lists video, audio recording, playback, and basic filters, along with webcam use. Its output was described as interpolated and its color as average, so those extras should be weighed against the S168’s stronger image-quality result.

Buy for design or collecting, not dependable pictures
The PocketSnap’s transparent shell and the Charmera’s blind-box collectible angle are novelty features. In Waller’s comparison, neither was a reason to expect strong image quality: he reported weak PocketSnap detail and color, and poor-looking Charmera images.
Treat generic listings and reliability cautiously
The S142 example failed during the review, but a single unit cannot establish a failure rate. Generic product names can also make it difficult to know whether two listings describe the same camera. Check the seller’s exact model details, return terms, and recent listing information rather than assuming that a “720p” label guarantees useful video or dependable operation.

What to expect from a keychain toy camera
These are novelty cameras for casual, low-stakes fun, not substitutes for conventional cameras. Their appeal can be the tiny form, simple operation, odd filters, or the pleasure of carrying a camera that invites experimentation. Even the strongest image-quality result in this comparison remains a small toy camera judged on its own terms.

- Screen and controls: Small rear screens can be hard to see in bright conditions, and setting date and time may be awkward. Sparse buttons or basic menus can also make settings less convenient.
- Features: Photo, video, audio, filters, frames, and webcam support vary by model. Do not assume one camera’s features apply to another.
- Price: Amateur Photographer reported that the five cameras were priced online between £4 and £20 when Waller tried them in August 2026; that is dated context, not a current price guide. The S142’s reported test price was £4.21. Prices and availability can change.
Verdict
For the best image quality in this particular five-camera test, the Life Camera S168 is the most defensible pick. The G6 is worth considering if its extra recording modes appeal, while the other models make more sense as design-led or collectible novelties than as choices for better pictures. Set expectations accordingly: the comparison is one reviewer’s experience with specific units, and these cameras are meant to be fun rather than dependable photographic tools.
