Apple’s current iOS 27 requirements support Apple Intelligence and Siri AI on iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, all iPhone 16 models and later, and iPhone Air. The regular iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus are not on Apple’s compatibility list. Hardware is only one condition: you also need iOS 27, matching device and Siri languages, and a supported region and account setting.
Which iPhones support Apple Intelligence?
Apple’s current requirements identify the following iPhone families as compatible with Apple Intelligence and the AI features of Siri:

This is a hardware eligibility list, not a promise that every compatible iPhone receives every Siri capability. Apple distinguishes the general Apple Intelligence feature set from newer, more demanding Siri AI functions.
Does iPhone 15 support Apple Intelligence?
Only the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max are named as supported. The regular iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus do not appear in Apple’s current requirements, so updating either model to iOS 27 does not make it eligible for Apple Intelligence or Siri AI.

The distinction is based on model, not storage capacity. An iPhone 15 with more storage is still a non-Pro iPhone 15, while both iPhone 15 Pro sizes meet the minimum hardware generation Apple identifies. If you are checking a used phone, verify the exact model in Settings > General > About rather than relying on the seller’s shorthand “iPhone 15.”
Does iPhone 15 Pro get the new Siri?
Yes, iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max are the oldest iPhones Apple currently lists for Siri AI. They still require iOS 27, a supported language configuration, and a permitted region. Apple describes the Siri AI experience as a beta in its current iOS 27 guidance, so eligibility does not mean that every feature is final or available immediately.
Apple may also stage access. Its setup instructions say that enabling Siri AI adds you to a waitlist and that waiting time varies. A supported iPhone can therefore show the feature as unavailable until Apple enables it for the account or region.
Does iPhone 16 have Apple Intelligence?
Yes. Apple’s current compatibility wording includes iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, iPhone 16 Pro Max and iPhone 16e. The broad “iPhone 16 models and later” description should not be read as meaning that every model has identical Siri behavior. Apple can assign particular voice or model capabilities to only some devices.

For a purchase decision, the iPhone 16 family is the clearest new-generation starting point: every model in the named family is on the general Apple Intelligence list, whereas only the Pro versions of the preceding iPhone 15 generation qualify.
Which iPhone models support Siri AI?
Apple’s current Siri AI support guidance covers iPhone 15 Pro models and later, iPhone 16 models and later, and iPhone Air, when the other requirements are satisfied. In practical terms, the minimum named models are iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max.
Siri AI is not simply a different app that can be installed on an older phone. The supported devices provide the hardware Apple requires for its on-device models and related processing. A phone outside the list cannot gain eligibility through a larger iCloud plan, a language change, or a later storage upgrade.

Compatibility has several layers:
- General hardware eligibility: the iPhone model must be in Apple’s current list.
- Operating-system eligibility: the iPhone must run iOS 27 for the current Siri AI guidance.
- Language eligibility: the device language and Siri language must match a supported language. Apple’s September 22, 2026 support article says Siri AI is currently available in English.
- Regional and account eligibility: Apple says Siri AI is unavailable on iOS in the European Union and does not currently work when the Apple Account region is mainland China.
- Feature-level eligibility: some advanced voice capabilities have a narrower model list than the general Apple Intelligence list.
Apple’s current wording specifically identifies iPhone Air, iPhone 17 Pro models and iPhone 18 Pro models for the AFM Core Advanced model and expressive voices. Therefore, an iPhone 15 Pro or iPhone 16 can be eligible for Siri AI while lacking those particular advanced voices. Feature availability can also vary by region, platform and beta rollout.

iOS 27, language and region requirements
Install iOS 27
The current Siri AI instructions require iOS 27. Before troubleshooting, open Settings > General > Software Update and install the latest iOS 27 update offered for your model. Apple’s requirements can change in later point releases, so the live Apple support pages are the final authority after an update.
Match the device and Siri languages
Apple requires the iPhone language and Siri language to be the same supported language. Check both settings:
- Open Settings > General > Language & Region > iPhone Language and note the selected language.
- Open Settings > Siri (or Apple Intelligence & Siri, depending on the current iOS label), then tap Language.
- Choose the same supported language in both places, then restart or follow the on-screen prompt if iOS requests one.
Do not assume that Apple’s broader Apple Intelligence language list applies unchanged to Siri AI. Apple’s September 22, 2026 support article states: “Siri AI is currently available in English. Availability varies by region and platform.” That is a Siri-specific rollout statement, not a guarantee that every Apple Intelligence language is active for the new Siri.
Check your location and Apple Account region
Hardware compatibility cannot override regional restrictions. Apple says Siri AI is not available on iOS in the European Union and does not currently work for Apple Accounts set to mainland China. A compatible phone used elsewhere can therefore show different options from the same model used under those conditions. Changing a device’s language alone does not remove a regional restriction.

How to turn on Siri AI on a compatible iPhone
Use Apple’s current setup flow after confirming the model, iOS version, language and region:
- Back up important data and connect the iPhone to power or ensure it has sufficient battery.
- Open Settings > General > Software Update and install iOS 27 if an update is available.
- Open Settings > Siri. On some iOS 27 builds the section may be labeled Apple Intelligence & Siri.
- Tap Try Siri AI (Beta). If Siri is disabled, iOS may first ask you to turn Siri on.
- Complete the on-screen setup, including voice enrollment if prompted.
- Read the privacy information and confirm the choices presented by iOS.
- Wait for Apple to process the request. Apple says this step places the user on a waitlist and that wait times vary.
If the button is missing, verify every prerequisite rather than repeatedly restarting. A missing option usually indicates an unsupported model, an older iOS release, a language mismatch, a blocked region or an account that has not yet been enabled for the beta.

Apple says its Apple Intelligence models can require up to 8 GB of device storage on other supported iPhone models and up to 14 GB on selected newer, high-memory devices. These are maximum guidance figures for model storage, not an additional purchase or subscription fee, and the requirement can change with software updates. Keep free space available before enabling the feature; an iPhone that is nearly full may fail to download models or complete an update.

Some requests use server-based models. Apple says those features can have daily usage limits that vary according to the feature, request complexity, system demand and applicable policy. A temporary limit does not prove that the iPhone is incompatible. Try again later or use an on-device function when iOS offers that option.

Common compatibility problems and fixes
The iPhone is an iPhone 15 but Siri AI is absent
Identify whether it is an iPhone 15 Pro or Pro Max. The regular iPhone 15 and 15 Plus are not on Apple’s current list, and no settings change can add support.
The phone is listed but the setup button is missing
- Confirm iOS 27 under Settings > General > About.
- Check that iPhone Language and Siri Language match.
- Review the Apple Account region and whether the device is operating in the European Union.
- Install any pending point update, then restart the iPhone.
- Allow for Apple’s staged beta enrollment and waitlist.
Siri works, but the new voice or expressive behavior does not
General Siri AI eligibility is broader than expressive-voice eligibility. Apple specifically names iPhone Air, iPhone 17 Pro models and iPhone 18 Pro models for the AFM Core Advanced model and expressive voices. A supported iPhone outside that list may still provide other Apple Intelligence and Siri AI functions.
The feature worked and then stopped
Check for an iOS update, available storage, language changes and regional or account changes. Model downloads and server services can also be affected by demand or policy limits. Apple’s live requirements should be checked again because beta capabilities and supported regions can change.

Apple does not require a special accessory to make a compatible iPhone eligible. The deciding checks are the model, iOS 27, matching supported language, region and account status, available storage, and the particular Siri feature you want.
What can change?
This is a time-sensitive compatibility question. Apple can revise device families, iOS requirements, language support, regional availability, beta status, storage needs and feature thresholds. The information above reflects Apple’s guidance current to October 13, 2026, including its September 22, 2026 Siri AI support article.
