If by “Harry Potter RPG” you mean Hogwarts Legacy, the best choice for most players is the Standard Edition. It contains the complete base game and the Haunted Hogsmeade Shop Quest. Choose Deluxe only if you specifically want the Dark Arts Pack, Dark Arts cosmetic items, Dark Arts Battle Arena, and Thestral Mount listed on the official purchase page.
Edition names, prices, stock, and included bonuses can vary by platform, region, storefront, and format. Select your platform first, open the matching local store listing, and confirm the exact contents immediately before paying.
The short answer: Standard for the game, Deluxe for themed extras
Hogwarts Legacy is an open-world action RPG set in the wizarding world introduced by the Harry Potter books. The official franchise announcement describes an adventure at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry during the 1800s, while the official PlayStation description calls it an immersive, open-world action RPG.
Both editions are built around the same core game. The practical difference is that Deluxe adds a collection of Dark Arts-themed items and activities. Those additions do not change which edition contains the main Hogwarts adventure: both Standard and Deluxe include the base game and the Haunted Hogsmeade Shop Quest.

- BE THE WITCH OR WIZARD YOU WANT TO BE. Learn spells, brew potions, grow plants, and tend to magical beasts along your journey. Get sorted into your house, forge relationships, and master skills to become the witch or wizard you want to be.
- EXPERIENCE A NEW WIZARDING WORLD ADVENTURE. Experience the wizarding world in an unexplored era to uncover a hidden truth from its past. Battle against trolls, Dark Wizards, goblins, and more as you face a dangerous villain threatening the fate of the wizarding world.
- Import Region Free PEGI Version
That makes the decision straightforward:
- Buy Standard if you want the full story and normal gameplay without paying for themed extras.
- Buy Deluxe if you will use the Dark Arts content and want the Thestral Mount, or if the local price difference is small enough that those bonuses are worth it to you.
There is no universal price-based verdict because the captured official pages do not establish a stable comparison across countries, currencies, sales, or retailers.
What each edition contains
| Edition | Included content listed by the official purchase page | Best fit |
|---|---|---|
| Standard | Base game; Haunted Hogsmeade Shop Quest | Players who want the complete core adventure |
| Deluxe | Base game; Haunted Hogsmeade Shop Quest; Dark Arts Garrison Hat, exclusive to Digital Deluxe; Dark Arts Pack; Thestral Mount; Dark Arts Cosmetic Set; Dark Arts Battle Arena | Players who specifically want the Dark Arts-themed additions and mount |
The table reflects the current contents shown on the official buy page. A platform store can display a different product name, bundle description, or format, so use the live listing for the system and region where you intend to play.
What you get with Standard
The complete base game
Standard is not a trial, starter version, or shortened campaign. It includes the base Hogwarts Legacy game, which is the central purchase most readers are looking for when they ask which edition to buy.

Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Haunted Hogsmeade Shop Quest
The official comparison lists the Haunted Hogsmeade Shop Quest in both Standard and Deluxe. It is therefore not a reason by itself to upgrade. If this quest is the bonus you care about, Standard already lists it.
Who should start with Standard
- New players who have not decided whether Dark Arts cosmetics appeal to them.
- Buyers who prefer to spend only on the core game.
- Players purchasing a physical copy or a discounted listing whose exact bundle contents need to be kept simple.
- Families or gift buyers who want the least confusing edition name.
Standard is also the safer choice when the local store page is unclear about whether a product is digital, physical, cross-generation, or a bundle. Confirm the listing rather than assuming that every product with “Standard” in its title has identical packaging or access rights.

What Deluxe adds
Dark Arts Pack
The Dark Arts Pack is the main named Deluxe add-on. The official listing treats it as additional content alongside the cosmetic set and battle arena, rather than as a replacement for the base game.
Thestral Mount
Deluxe includes a Thestral Mount. This is a mount bonus, so its value depends on how much you care about travelling through the game world with that particular appearance. It does not make the Standard game unavailable or incomplete.

Dark Arts Cosmetic Set
The Dark Arts Cosmetic Set provides themed appearance options. Cosmetic content is inherently preference-driven: some players will enjoy styling a character around the Dark Arts theme, while others will never equip it.
Dark Arts Battle Arena
The Dark Arts Battle Arena is another Deluxe-listed activity. Choose Deluxe if you specifically want access to this themed combat option, rather than treating the package as a general performance upgrade.
Dark Arts Garrison Hat
The official buy page marks the Dark Arts Garrison Hat as exclusive to Digital Deluxe. That wording matters when comparing a Digital Deluxe listing with a physical product or another bundle. Do not assume that every Deluxe-branded box includes a digital-exclusive item; read the exact contents for the product you are buying.

- Fight to save your world. Save your sister. Save your soul.
- Fight for everything. Legends are born from trials.

- Stunning worlds to explore. Prepare to adventure far and wide across dangerous dimensions, majestic lands and strange new worlds.
Is Deluxe worth it?
Deluxe makes sense for collectors and Dark Arts fans
Deluxe is the natural choice if the Dark Arts theme is central to how you want to play or display your character. You receive several related bonuses instead of one isolated item: the pack, cosmetic set, arena, mount, and the Digital Deluxe-exclusive hat. A player who expects to use those items gets a clearer benefit than someone who simply wants to finish the main adventure.
Standard is better for a value-focused playthrough
If your priority is the story, Hogwarts exploration, and the ordinary progression loop, Standard supplies the core purchase. The quest included in both editions removes one common reason people might otherwise assume they need Deluxe.
Do not use launch benefits as a current upgrade reason
Deluxe buyers received a 72-hour early-access period during the game’s launch window, according to the official launch-era FAQ. That was a historical release benefit, not a reason to pay more for a current purchase. Treat early access as past context unless your local listing explicitly advertises a new, current entitlement.
Use the local price difference, not a global rule
Prices are not stable across regions and stores, and the official pages captured for this comparison do not provide a universal cross-region price table. Check the actual amount in your currency, then decide whether the listed extras justify the difference. A sale can reverse the usual value calculation, while a large price gap can make Standard the sensible choice even for someone mildly interested in the cosmetics.
Choose the correct platform and storefront first
The official buying flow asks shoppers to select a platform and store. PlayStation’s official listing presents the game for both PS4 and PS5 and shows Standard and Deluxe editions. That does not make one PlayStation product automatically suitable for every console, account, or format.

- Play as your favorite character to defend the wizarding world from evil forces: Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, Ron Weasley and Neville Longbottom
- Gain influence to master powerful spells, recruit allies, and uncover magical items
- Enhance your abilities with over 140 cards
- 7 successive game adventures offer increasing difficulty: as you advance through games 1-7 of Harry Potter Hogwarts Battle, you will reveal progressively more challenging adventures and unlock new secrets on your journey to save Hogwarts from the Dark Lord!
- Includes: 252 cards, 4 dice, 7 game boxes, 7 game rules, 4 player boards, 8 villain control tokens, and 70 chip pieces.Perfect for 2-4 players
- Identify the hardware you will use. Confirm whether you are buying for PS4, PS5, or another platform shown in your local storefront.
- Open the matching store or retailer page. Use the platform-specific listing instead of relying on a search result with an abbreviated title.
- Check the edition name. Look for Standard, Deluxe, Digital Deluxe, or another exact label. The Dark Arts Garrison Hat is specifically marked as Digital Deluxe-exclusive on the official page.
- Read the included-content section. Verify that the page lists the base game, Haunted Hogsmeade Shop Quest, and the Deluxe extras you expect.
- Confirm the format. Determine whether the product is a digital license, disc, code, or bundle. Edition names alone do not establish physical inventory in every market.
- Review account and generation requirements. Make sure the purchase is tied to the account and console generation you intend to use, particularly when a listing presents PS4 and PS5 together.
- Check the final local price and delivery details. Prices, taxes, promotions, stock, and delivery can change after a page is first published.
Digital versus physical purchases
The official edition names do not prove that every country offers the same physical inventory. A store may carry one edition on disc, another only as a download, or a bundle whose bonus items are delivered by code. If you want a physical copy, inspect the package description and the included-code language; if you want digital access, verify the account, platform, and edition shown at checkout.
This distinction is especially important for Deluxe because the official listing identifies one item—the Dark Arts Garrison Hat—as Digital Deluxe-exclusive. A physical Deluxe package may describe a different bonus set, while a digital store may use a Digital Deluxe label. The product page for your region is the authority for what your transaction delivers.
A practical decision checklist
Answer these questions before purchasing:
- Do I want the base game and Haunted Hogsmeade Shop Quest only?
- Will I use a Thestral Mount?
- Do I want the Dark Arts Pack, cosmetic set, or Battle Arena?
- Is the Digital Deluxe-exclusive Dark Arts Garrison Hat important to me?
- Does the local listing clearly state the platform, format, and edition?
- Is the current price difference reasonable in my currency?
- Am I mistakenly valuing the old 72-hour launch early-access benefit as though it were current?
If the first answer is yes and the Dark Arts items do not matter, select Standard. If several of the Dark Arts additions are priorities, select Deluxe after checking the exact local product description.

Assuming Deluxe contains a different campaign
The official comparison presents Deluxe as the base game plus additional listed content. It is not described as a separate story edition. Buy it for the bonuses, not because you expect a fundamentally different main adventure.
Paying twice for the Haunted Hogsmeade quest
Because the quest appears in both edition descriptions, it should not be used to justify an upgrade. Recheck the contents before checkout if a retailer’s short title makes the quest appear exclusive.

Confusing Digital Deluxe with every Deluxe product
The Dark Arts Garrison Hat has a specific Digital Deluxe-exclusive designation. Match that wording to the listing you are buying instead of assuming that a similarly named physical or regional bundle includes it.
Comparing an old launch article with a current store page
Launch coverage may mention the 72-hour early-access period. That benefit belonged to the launch window. For a current purchase, rely on the live edition description and current price in your store.
Assuming stock or pricing is permanent
Edition contents, retailer availability, discounts, and platform listings can change. Recheck the local store immediately before payment, especially when buying a gift or a physical copy.
Do you need the official game guide?
The publisher’s catalog lists Hogwarts Legacy: The Official Game Guide (Harry Potter). That establishes that an official guide title exists, but it does not establish current stock, price, format, or an authorized live retailer listing. Treat it as an optional book purchase rather than part of the Standard-versus-Deluxe decision, and verify the current edition if you are shopping for one.
Final buying recommendation
Buy Standard for the complete Hogwarts Legacy experience and the Haunted Hogsmeade Shop Quest without paying for optional themed additions. Buy Deluxe when the Dark Arts Pack, Dark Arts Cosmetic Set, Dark Arts Battle Arena, Thestral Mount, and—on Digital Deluxe—the Dark Arts Garrison Hat are genuinely useful to you. Select your platform, match the local store listing, confirm digital or physical format, and judge the live regional price rather than relying on launch-era promises or a price seen in another country.
