Change the Hisense PX4 Pro in this order: choose Filmmaker or Theater, check whether the light sensor is dimming the image, set the seven-level iris for your room and screen, and only then consider color temperature. Leave white balance and color-management controls for a measured calibration. This sequence improves the most visible problems first without assuming that one review unit’s numerical settings will suit every PX4 Pro.
Why this order works
The PX4 Pro is Hisense’s RGB triple-laser ultra-short-throw projector. Its manufacturer lists 3,500 ANSI lumens and an adjustable seven-level iris on the current product page (Hisense product page). Those capabilities make room brightness, screen size, and viewing priorities unusually important. A setting that helps a bright living room can make a dark theater look washed out or fatiguing.
Start with controls that affect the whole picture and are easy to reverse. Preset mode determines the baseline processing; the light sensor can change output automatically; and the iris balances brightness against black level. Color temperature and calibration controls come later because independent tests disagree about the PX4 Pro’s factory color and because measured corrections apply to a particular projector, screen, room, and source.
1. Choose Filmmaker or Theater before changing individual sliders
Open the projector’s picture-mode menu and begin with Filmmaker or one of the Theater presets. Use the mode that gives the most natural motion, contrast, and skin tones on your actual content rather than assuming a label guarantees identical results in every region or firmware version.

Filmmaker Mode
What Hi-Fi? reported that Filmmaker Mode resolved its concern about artificial motion smoothing, although the reviewers’ final preference remained a judgment from their own viewing conditions (What Hi-Fi? PX4 Pro evaluation). If films look like video or camera footage, this is the first preset to try.
Theater presets
Projector Reviews found Theater Day, Theater Night, and Filmmaker among the more accurate-looking presets on its sample (Projector Reviews’ PX4 Pro review). Theater Day is a sensible starting point when ambient light is high; Theater Night or Filmmaker is generally more appropriate when the room is dark. Treat that as a comparison method, not a universal ranking.
| Starting mode | When to test it | What to watch for | Evidence and limitation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Filmmaker | Movies and series, especially when motion looks overly processed | Natural motion, correct-looking film texture, balanced highlights | What Hi-Fi? found it solved its motion-smoothing objection; the result was still a viewing judgment. |
| Theater Night | Dark-room viewing | Shadow detail without gray blacks or excessive brightness | Projector Reviews considered it accurate-looking on its tested unit. |
| Theater Day | Living rooms with more ambient light | Highlight visibility and readable midtones | Projector Reviews included it among the stronger-looking presets on its sample. |
After selecting a mode, watch a familiar scene for several minutes before changing anything else. Do not evaluate a preset from a single bright demo clip: dark scenes, faces, skies, and slow camera pans expose different problems.

2. Check the light sensor if the picture is unexpectedly dim
Look in the PX4 Pro’s picture or brightness controls for the ambient-light or light-sensor setting. Menu wording can differ by software version, so use the on-screen description rather than assuming that every Hisense display uses the same path.

Projector Reviews found its Filmmaker picture unusually dim while the sample’s light-sensor setting was engaged. Turning the sensor off returned brightness to the expected level (Projector Reviews). This is a diagnostic check, not a recommendation to disable automatic sensing for everyone.
- Select Filmmaker or Theater and note the apparent brightness.
- Find the light-sensor or ambient-light option in the picture menu.
- Temporarily turn it off and replay the same dark and bright scenes.
- Keep the setting that matches your room throughout the session. If automatic adaptation is useful as daylight changes, re-enable it after confirming that it is not the reason the image looks abnormally dark.
A sensor can be helpful in a room whose light changes substantially, but its behavior may make comparisons difficult because the projector is no longer holding output constant. Always compare settings at the same time of day or under the same lamps.
3. Set the seven-level iris for your screen and room
The PX4 Pro’s iris is a primary picture control, not a minor calibration detail. Hisense specifies seven iris levels (Hisense). Projector Reviews explains the trade-off: stepping the iris down reduces excess light and can deepen blacks, but it also lowers light output (Projector Reviews).
How to choose a level
- Start at the current default and display a scene containing both near-black detail and bright highlights.
- Close the iris by one level.
- Check whether black bars and shadow areas look darker without losing texture in clothing, hair, or dark walls.
- Check bright subtitles, specular reflections, snow, and daylight scenes for a noticeable loss of punch.
- Repeat one step at a time, stopping when the image is no longer bright enough for your screen and ambient light.
Use a more open iris when daylight, a large screen, or a low-gain screen makes the image look dull. Use a more closed iris when the room is controlled, highlights are glaring, or dark scenes look gray. There is no correct iris position independent of screen size, screen gain, throw geometry, room light, and personal comfort.

4. Change color temperature only when you can see a consistent tint
Color temperature is worth changing after mode, sensing, and iris are stable. Make the smallest change that fixes a visible cast, and judge it with neutral whites, gray objects, skin tones, and black-and-white material rather than a colorful trailer.
Why reviews disagree
What Hi-Fi? settled on Warm 2 for the content it reviewed (What Hi-Fi?). Projector Reviews found its most accurate-looking modes warm but correctable (Projector Reviews). RTINGS, testing a different unit, described its sample as blue-tinted and inaccurate out of the box (RTINGS).
These findings are not contradictory measurements of one identical setup. They reflect different samples, screens, room conditions, source chains, methods, and evaluation dates. Therefore, Warm 2 is a reasonable test, not a universal answer. If Warm 2 makes whites visibly yellow or removes natural skin tones, compare the neighboring temperature preset and keep the one that looks neutral on your projector.
5. Reserve white balance and color management for measured calibration
Advanced controls can produce excellent results when adjusted with a colorimeter and suitable software, but copying numbers from a review is not a shortcut to the same picture. Projector Reviews reported a calibrated Filmmaker result for its test unit of gamma 2.2, 6,462 K color temperature, average grayscale dE2000 of 1.3, and average color-tracking dE2000 of 1.0 (Projector Reviews). Those are measured outcomes from that projector, screen, room, and signal path—not recommended menu values for every owner.

The same review measured 3,386 lumens with the iris off and Brightness Enhancement set to Ultra. It also warned that this feature harmed color reproduction and increased fan noise. The figure is therefore a condition-specific result, not a promise of normal-mode output.
Hisense’s general settings overview lists controls such as gamma, Color Tuner, and 11-point white balance, but explicitly warns that available options vary by model, region, and content. It is not a confirmed PX4 Pro-specific manual (Hisense settings overview). If your menu includes these controls, record the original values before changing them and adjust only after measuring the grayscale and color errors.
Movie and gaming priorities are different
For movies, prioritize accurate color, natural motion, shadow detail, and comfortable highlight brightness. For games, responsiveness and readable shadow detail may matter more than strict cinematic accuracy. The available evaluations do not establish a complete PX4 Pro-specific gaming recipe, so do not treat a movie preset or a reviewer’s calibration as a guaranteed gaming configuration.

|---|---|---|
| Motion handling | Avoid artificial smoothing; assess slow pans and film texture. | Check for processing delay and whether fast movement remains clear. |
| Brightness | Balance highlight impact with comfortable dark-room viewing. | Keep enough output to see opponents and interfaces in the actual room light. |
| Black level and shadow detail | Use the iris to prevent gray blacks while preserving near-black texture. | Do not close the iris so far that dark game areas hide detail. |
| Color | Neutral whites and natural skin tones are strong references. | Consistency and visibility may be more useful than a cinema-calibrated white point. |
| Responsiveness | Secondary to image fidelity. | Test with the console or PC at the intended resolution and refresh rate; no complete PX4 Pro recipe is established by the cited evaluations. |
Brightness figures: what they do and do not tell you
| Figure | Source and conditions | How to interpret it |
|---|---|---|
| 3,500 ANSI lumens | Hisense product specification, current page accessed in 2026 | Manufacturer-published specification, not an independent measurement. |
| 3,386 lumens | Projector Reviews measurement with iris off and Brightness Enhancement at Ultra | Result for that review sample and setting; the reviewer noted worse color and more fan noise with the enhancement enabled. |
| Seven iris levels | Hisense product specification | Available adjustment range; it does not identify the right level for your room. |
Quick troubleshooting by symptom
The picture is dim in Filmmaker
Check the light sensor first, then compare Theater Night and Theater Day at the same source and room lighting. Do not raise every brightness control before confirming that automatic sensing is not reducing output.

Blacks look gray or highlights are uncomfortable
Close the iris one step at a time and inspect both shadow texture and bright details. If the image becomes too dark, reopen it rather than compensating with aggressive contrast or color controls.
Motion looks like live television
Return to Filmmaker and compare a slow camera pan. If the effect remains, inspect motion-processing options, but change one control at a time so you know which setting altered the result.
Whites or skin tones have a blue or yellow cast
Compare adjacent color-temperature presets using neutral material. The correct choice depends on your unit; RTINGS and Projector Reviews reached different out-of-box conclusions on their samples.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:

Restore the saved defaults, return to the selected cinema preset, and stop copying numerical values from another projector. Use measurement-based calibration only when you can measure your own screen and signal path.
Quick Recap
A sensible first-session checklist
- Select Filmmaker, Theater Night, or Theater Day and watch representative content.
- Check the light-sensor setting if output seems unexpectedly low.
- Choose an iris level by comparing dark scenes and bright highlights, changing one of the seven levels at a time.
- Test color temperature only if a persistent tint is visible; include Warm 2 in the comparison but do not assume it is universally correct.
- Leave gamma, Color Tuner, white balance, and other detailed controls at their defaults unless you are performing a measured calibration.
- Save separate notes for movie and gaming use, since their brightness, motion, shadow-detail, color, and responsiveness priorities differ.
