The best bass booster for your headphones is usually the equalizer already built into your phone, music app, or headphones. Try that first. If you need one EQ setup to work across several audio sources, a portable DAC/amp with onboard EQ is another option; a headphone’s own bass preset can also work when the model offers one. These are different ways to adjust bass, not five tested products ranked by sound quality.
Five ways to boost headphone bass
A bass booster is usually an equalizer (EQ) setting that raises low frequencies. The right choice depends on where you listen, which audio you want to affect, and whether you need headphone-specific settings. The available manufacturer documentation establishes features, not comparative listening-test results.

How to choose the right option
Start with the audio you want to change
If you want more bass only while using one music app, its EQ may be enough. If you want device-level headphone controls, first confirm that your device and headphone model are supported. An external EQ device is worth considering only when the controls you already have do not suit your sources or workflow.

Check where the EQ applies
Do not assume an EQ setting affects every app or audio input. Check the app or device documentation for its scope. Qudelix says the 5K can process audio through multiple listed sources and routes; that is a manufacturer-documented feature, not evidence that every setup or connection will work identically.

Decide whether you need headphone-specific tuning
A general bass adjustment changes tonal balance to your preference. A headphone-targeted preset is a different approach: Qudelix’s documentation separates its headphone/speaker EQ from user-preference EQ and describes applying AutoEq presets in the headphone/speaker EQ section. A headphone maker’s own preset, such as the Bass Boost shelf described for the Audeze Maxwell 2, is specific to that product.
Separate bass adjustment from amplification
An amplifier does not inherently add bass. The Qudelix-5K combines DAC/amp hardware with EQ; the frequency change comes from the EQ. Additional amplification may matter for a headphone that needs more drive, but that is a separate question from whether its bass response should be adjusted.

Set up a bass boost without introducing distortion
- Check built-in controls first. Look in your playback app, device audio settings, and headphone controls. For Apple devices, consult the supported-model and setup details in Apple’s headphone audio settings guide.
- Make a modest EQ change. Raise the bass gradually, then listen to familiar tracks at a consistent volume so you can judge the tonal change. This is a practical setup suggestion, not a reported listening test.
- Listen for clipping or saturation. Positive EQ boosts increase signal level and may cause unwanted clipping noise. Qudelix’s documentation explains that its preamp gain and headroom settings scale the signal before EQ filters. If distortion appears, reduce the boost or lower the preamp gain to create headroom. - Save or apply a headphone preset only when appropriate. If your EQ system supports a profile for your headphone, follow its instructions and keep user-preference adjustments distinct from headphone-targeted correction where the system allows it.
What the documented options do not establish
Manufacturer feature pages do not show that one approach sounds better than another, establish a top-five performance ranking, or verify a current marketplace listing. Qudelix’s official product page displayed a price of $109 when accessed in 2026; that is a changeable listed price, not a guaranteed current price or proof of availability through another seller.
