The most useful Hatch Restore 3 changes are the ones you experience every night: configure the Unwind bedtime routine’s sound, light, duration, volume and brightness; hide or dim the clock; and tune the sunrise alarm’s light, duration, sound, volume and repeat days. Start with comfortable, repeatable values, then change one control at a time based on how your room and wake-up feel.
Hatch documents how each control works, but its Restore 3 support material does not show that any particular setting guarantees better sleep or treats a sleep disorder. Use these settings as a personal routine tool, not as a medical intervention.
Start with these settings
This table gives you a sensible order for setup. The suggested direction is a comfort experiment, not a clinically validated prescription.

| Unwind bedtime routine | Sound, light or color, duration, volume and light brightness; sound and light can each be set to zero | Use a sound and brightness level that fades into the background. Turn either component off if it keeps you alert. |
| Clock display | On, off, scheduled, brightness and 12/24-hour format | Hide or dim the display if seeing the time makes you check the clock. Tap the device when you need a brief time check. |
| Sunrise alarm | Alarm time, repeat days, light, sunrise duration, brightness, sound and volume | Choose a wake time and a light/sound combination that wakes you without an unnecessarily loud final signal. |
| Immersive and bedside light | Synchronized routine light on/off; bedside-light color and brightness | Disable synchronized light or reduce bedside brightness if light feels stimulating. |
| Physical controls | Big Button, volume dial, alarm toggle and Swap button | Learn these before bed so you can start, stop, snooze or silence the device without reaching for your phone. |
Restore 3 is designed as a configurable routine with sleep sounds, soothing light and sunrise alarms, according to Hatch’s Restore 3 overview (July 9, 2026). The controls let you shape the experience; they do not establish an objectively “best” combination.

Prepare the Restore 3 before tuning sleep settings
Complete the basic setup first. Hatch’s setup and installation instructions (June 25, 2026) require the Restore 3 to stay plugged in, use of the Hatch Sleep app for setup, and a Wi‑Fi connection. These are operating requirements rather than optional sleep preferences.
- Keep the device connected to power in the location where you will use it.
- Install or open the Hatch Sleep app and complete the device connection.
- Confirm that the Restore 3 is on Wi‑Fi before creating routines or alarms.
- Stand where you can see the display and reach the Big Button while testing your choices.
Configure the Unwind bedtime routine
Open the routine editor
In the Hatch Sleep app, connect to your Restore 3 and edit the existing Unwind or Sleep routine, or add a routine step. Hatch’s Unwind routine guide (August 20, 2025) describes the available controls.
Choose sound and light independently
For each step, select a sound, choose a light or color, and set the step’s duration. Use the volume slider for sound and the brightness slider for light. Both controls can be reduced to zero, so a step can be sound-only, light-only or silent and dark.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →A useful first test is a quiet, consistent sound with low brightness. If either element keeps your attention on the device, set that element to zero rather than abandoning the whole routine. The documentation lists the controls but does not compare sound types, colors or durations in a sleep-outcome study, so treat your choice as personalization.
Match duration to your actual wind-down
Set a duration you can follow every night. A routine that ends long before you are ready for sleep may feel abrupt; one that runs after you are already asleep may add unnecessary light or sound. Change the duration only after you have observed your normal bedtime for several nights, and keep the other settings stable so you know what caused any difference.

Hide or dim the clock display
Clock light is easy to overlook because it remains visible after the bedtime routine. Hatch’s clock display instructions (May 18, 2026) put these controls in the Restore 3 device settings in the app.
- Turn the display off: the clock stays hidden until you tap the device, when the time appears briefly.
- Schedule the display: use different visibility or brightness behavior for the times you choose.
- Adjust brightness: select a level that is readable without becoming a room light.
- Switch time format: choose 12-hour or 24-hour time.
The support page notes that daytime and nighttime brightness settings are available in the iOS app version. Hiding the display can remove a time-checking cue, but Hatch does not claim in this documentation that doing so produces a measured sleep improvement.

Tune the sunrise alarm for a gentler wake-up
Create or edit the alarm
From the Restore 3 home screen in the Hatch Sleep app, add or edit a Sunrise Alarm. Hatch’s Sunrise Alarms guide (June 26, 2025) lists the settings:
- scheduled alarm time;
- days of the week on which it repeats;
- sunrise light selection;
- sunrise brightness;
- sunrise duration;
- alarm sound selection; and
- sound volume.
Understand the order of light and sound
The light phase runs before the scheduled alarm time. Hatch says the alarm sound starts when the alarm is set to go off, after the sunrise phase. Therefore, a longer sunrise duration gives the light more time to run before the sound, while a shorter duration brings the audible alarm closer to the beginning of the wake sequence.
Set repeat days deliberately
Select only the days you need. If you deselect all repeat days, Hatch says the alarm runs once and then removes itself. That behavior is useful for a one-time early start, travel day or schedule exception; check the alarm list afterward if you expected it to remain active.

Find your comfortable intensity
Brightness, duration and volume are independent preferences. Start with enough light and sound to wake you reliably, then reduce intensity if the alarm feels abrupt. Do not assume that a particular duration “resets” your circadian rhythm: the support material explains device behavior, not a clinical effect.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Disable light effects that distract you
Some supported sound steps include synchronized immersive light. Hatch’s Restore 3 Light Guide (June 30, 2026) says you can toggle that light option off while configuring the routine step.
The separate bedside light is also customizable. Open the device light settings to choose its color and brightness. Use a dimmer setting or turn the light off if you notice it drawing your gaze, illuminating the room more than intended, or making it harder to settle.
Use the physical controls instead of the app when needed
Knowing the buttons prevents a phone screen from becoming part of your bedtime or wake-up routine. The Restore 3 Controls Guide (September 15, 2026) defines the device actions:
| Control | Action |
|---|---|
| Big Button during the evening | Press to start the Unwind routine; press again to advance to the next step; press and hold to stop the routine. |
| Big Button during the morning alarm | Press to snooze; press and hold to turn the alarm off. |
| Rotating control | Rotate clockwise or counterclockwise to change volume. |
| Alarm toggle | Slide left to disable alarms and right to enable them. |
| Swap button | Move between saved routines. |
Test the alarm toggle after editing schedules. A perfectly configured alarm will not sound while alarms are disabled.

A simple way to personalize the settings
Because Hatch’s documentation does not rank settings by sleep efficacy, use a controlled adjustment process:
- Keep the clock hidden or at one fixed brightness.
- Choose one Unwind sound, one light state and a duration that fits your bedtime.
- Use the same bedtime and wake schedule for several nights when possible.
- Change one variable—such as sound volume, light brightness or sunrise duration—rather than changing everything at once.
- Keep the version that feels comfortable and repeatable; revert a change that makes you more alert, wakes you too early or causes you to reach for the device.
This approach does not turn personal impressions into medical evidence. It simply makes it easier to identify which setting suits your room, schedule and sensitivity to light or sound.
When the alarm does not go off
Hatch’s alarm troubleshooting page (July 24, 2026) recommends checking the alarm state and its schedule details. Work through these checks:
- Look at the physical alarm toggle and slide it right if alarms are disabled.
- In the app, open the alarm and confirm the day or days selected.
- Verify the alarm time, chosen sound and sunrise-light selection.
- Confirm that the Restore 3 remains plugged in and connected as required during setup.
- Run a short test alarm while you are awake so you can verify light, sound and volume without risking a missed wake-up.
If a one-time alarm disappeared, remember that deselecting all repeat days makes it run once and remove itself. Recreate it with the desired repeat days when you need a recurring alarm.
What these settings can—and cannot—tell you about sleep
The available controls can make a bedtime sequence easier to repeat, reduce unwanted light, and shape how the morning alarm behaves. They cannot diagnose insomnia, replace treatment, or prove that one color, sound, brightness or sunrise duration improves sleep for everyone.
The official Restore 3 setup and settings pages provide no named, dated statistic measuring an improvement in sleep outcomes and no effect size for a preferred configuration. The most defensible claim is therefore limited: Restore 3 lets you customize these routine, display and alarm behaviors. If persistent sleep difficulty, loud snoring, breathing pauses, severe daytime sleepiness or other concerning symptoms continue, discuss them with a qualified clinician rather than relying on device settings alone.
A practical final configuration
For a first night, create an Unwind routine with a comfortable duration, low or zero light, and sound at a level you can ignore. Hide or dim the clock, set a sunrise alarm only for the days you need, and choose light and sound intensities that wake you without startling you. Confirm the alarm toggle is enabled, then use the Big Button and volume control once so their actions are familiar. After that, make single-variable adjustments based on your own experience.
