For a growing Indian small business that wants cloud-first accounting, Zoho Books is a strong starting point: its India product page describes GST invoicing, return filing, e-invoicing, e-way bills, inventory and multi-GSTIN support. TallyPrime is worth comparing if your team or accountant prefers its desktop-style workflow and GST portal connection. BUSY and myBillBook may suit particular inventory- or billing-led needs. These are vendor-described capabilities, not results from hands-on testing or an independent ranking.
The best choice depends on whether the product handles your actual transactions, stock processes and accountant workflow—and whether its full cost and migration effort fit your business. The information here is about Indian GST and vendor-published product details accessed on October 13, 2026; confirm current features, plan limits and prices before committing.
How to choose GST-compliant accounting software
Start with your business’s work, not a feature list. A product may advertise GST invoicing, filing or inventory while the plan you select, the transactions you process or the way your accountant works may not match what you need. Ask vendors to show the relevant workflow in the edition and plan you are considering, then review it with your accountant.

Gather examples of the invoices, purchases, tax treatments and reporting your business handles. Include less-common cases that matter to you, rather than testing only a basic sale.
- Trace the GST process end to end. Check invoice fields, the reports or filing process you rely on, e-invoicing and e-way bill workflows where applicable, and how you reconcile the results with your accountant. Confirm which steps are available in the exact plan and for your transaction types.
- Test accounting and stock workflows. Use representative records to see whether the product fits your bookkeeping, reporting and inventory needs. For stock, include the number of locations, the range of items and the movements your business actually manages.
- Check collaboration and operating model. Decide who needs access: owners, employees and external accountants. Ask how access, permissions, multi-user use and audit history work. Confirm whether the team wants cloud access or a desktop-oriented setup, and what the selected licence supports.
- Calculate total cost and transition effort. Check plan limits, user limits, GST-related charges, onboarding and support costs, and the process for exporting data. Test migration with a sample dataset before moving live records, and compare current prices directly with the vendor.
Keep the same test cases for every candidate. A written checklist makes it easier to distinguish a feature that exists somewhere in a product from a workflow your business can actually use in its selected plan.
#1 Best Overall
- Manage your payments and deposit transactions
- Check balances and generate reports to monitor your business finances
- Email and fax reports to your accountant
- Create and track quotes, invoices and more
- Connect to the app with secure web access
For example, a useful demo is not simply a tour of the home screen. Bring an invoice that reflects a real transaction, ask the vendor to show how the relevant fields are captured, then follow the resulting information through the report or filing process your accountant uses. If you manage stock, use a sample item and location pattern that resembles your own rather than assuming that a general inventory feature covers your requirements. Note any manual steps, missing information or plan restrictions.
These checks are especially important when more than one person handles books. Ask each person who will use the system to describe the task they need to complete: entering transactions, reviewing records, checking reports or working with the accountant. Then confirm that the selected setup supports those roles and that its access and edit history meet your oversight needs. A vendor’s reference to multi-user access or edit logs is not, by itself, a description of every permission or licensing detail.
How the four products compare
The table summarizes capabilities described by each vendor, not independently verified performance. It is a shortlist for further evaluation, not a claim that every listed feature is included in every edition or plan. Confirm plan-specific availability with the vendor.

| TallyPrime | GST portal connectivity and return filing; e-invoice and e-way bill generation; inventory; edit logs; multi-user access | Business or accountant that prefers a desktop-style workflow and GST portal connection | Deployment, licensing, team access and the fit with your accountant’s process |
| BUSY | Configurable invoicing; multiple-godown inventory; GST e-returns in JSON; e-invoice and e-way bill generation | Business that needs to evaluate its invoicing and multi-godown inventory options | Edition differences and total price, including the GST charge noted by the vendor |
| myBillBook | GST and non-GST invoices; inventory; payment tracking; GST reports; e-invoicing; e-way billing | Billing-led business assessing invoice, payment and stock workflows | Whether its accounting depth, reporting and controls meet needs as the business grows |
All capabilities in the table are vendor-published descriptions accessed on October 13, 2026. No hands-on trial or comprehensive plan-by-plan feature audit supports a conclusion about ease of use, speed, reliability or comparative value. Treat each row as a list of topics to test, not a guarantee about your selected edition.
The products are not interchangeable just because several mention GST invoicing or e-way bills. Zoho Books’ cited India page gives a broad cloud-oriented list that also includes online return filing and multi-GSTIN support. TallyPrime’s cited material highlights portal connection and filing alongside edit logs and multi-user access. BUSY’s listed multiple-godown inventory and JSON e-returns may make its editions worth checking for particular stock and filing workflows. myBillBook’s listed payment tracking and GST reports may be relevant when billing is central, but its accounting depth still needs to be assessed separately.
Zoho Books: a cloud-first starting point
Zoho Books is the clearest starting point in this comparison for a business seeking cloud-first accounting with a wide set of vendor-described GST functions. Its India GST product page lists invoice support for HSN/SAC and place-of-supply information, e-way bill generation, GSTN-authenticated e-invoicing, online return filing, inventory management and multi-GSTIN support.
That feature breadth does not establish that every business will find every needed workflow in every plan. Before choosing, take an invoice and reporting example from your own operations and confirm the fields, tax treatment and return or reconciliation steps with your accountant. Ask the vendor to identify the plan that includes each required feature and any relevant limits.

- You can now print to blank check stock. Customization of the check layout is "not" possible at this time. Check the Help file for additional details.
- Electronic form filing for W-2, 1099-NEC and 1099-MISC is available through a third party service (there is a nominal fee for this service).
- Tax forms for 2022
- Includes tax tables for 2023
- Support for new 1099-NEC form
In particular, verify that the plan you are pricing covers the ways your business actually uses the product: the GST workflows you need, inventory needs, number of users and the reports your accountant reviews. If you operate with more than one GSTIN, confirm the multi-GSTIN support and associated plan terms directly rather than assuming the phrase on a product page settles the details. The accountant who will review your books should be involved before migration, not only after setup.
Published India plan prices
The vendor’s India page listed a free plan and the following paid tiers and prices when accessed on October 13, 2026. The quoted annual-billing rates are monthly equivalents billed annually; monthly-billing rates are shown separately. Prices and plan contents can change, so verify them directly before purchase.
| Plan | Annual billing | Monthly billing |
|---|---|---|
| Standard | ₹749/month | ₹899/month |
| Professional | ₹1,499/month | ₹1,799/month |
| Premium, Elite and Ultimate | Higher tiers are listed | Higher tiers are listed |
The available information does not give prices for the higher tiers, so compare their current vendor-listed prices and limits rather than estimating them. The existence of a free plan also does not establish that it includes the workflow, user capacity or controls your growing business requires.
At the listed rates, Standard is ₹150 per month lower on an annual-billing monthly equivalent than on monthly billing, while Professional is ₹300 lower. Annual billing commits the business to that billing cycle, so compare the overall commitment and current plan limits—not just the displayed monthly equivalent—with the flexibility of monthly billing. These figures reflect the vendor’s prices as accessed on October 13, 2026; they are not a promise of current pricing.

TallyPrime: evaluate it around your team’s workflow
TallyPrime is worth considering when the business or its accountant prefers a desktop-style workflow and wants a connection to the GST portal. Its small-business product page describes GST portal connectivity and return filing, e-invoice and e-way bill generation, inventory, edit logs and multi-user access. TallyHelp describes GST setup as well as portal upload, download and return filing.
For this option, ask the vendor and your accountant to walk through the deployment and licensing model that would apply to your team. Confirm how many people need access, how an external accountant would work with the records, and whether the relevant portal steps fit the way your business closes and reconciles its books. The documented features do not by themselves establish the licensing requirements or suitability of a particular setup.
Use the demonstration to clarify the complete sequence your team would follow: setup, routine accounting work, the portal upload or download steps relevant to you, and the return filing and review process. Confirm who performs each step and how the accountant receives the information they need. If multiple people will work in the system, distinguish the vendor-described multi-user access from the licensing, deployment and permission details that apply to your arrangement.

BUSY: assess the edition if stock is spread across godowns
BUSY’s pricing page lists configurable invoicing, multiple-godown inventory, GST e-returns in JSON, and e-invoice and e-way bill generation. Those descriptions make it a candidate to test when inventory across multiple godowns is central to the business. They do not establish which edition is right for a given stock operation.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Use a representative stock scenario during evaluation: choose the locations and item range you actually manage, then check whether the product’s inventory and invoicing workflows match your processes. Compare editions for the exact features and limits you need. The vendor states that GST is added to the displayed price, so include that charge when calculating the total rather than comparing only the listed amount.
Do not compare a BUSY displayed amount with another vendor’s advertised price until you have checked what each figure includes and what your chosen edition requires. The GST addition called out by BUSY is a specific reason to calculate the payable total. Also ask for the edition-level comparison in writing, especially if you are relying on configurable invoicing, multiple-godown stock or the listed e-return format.
myBillBook: test whether billing features cover the accounting need
myBillBook’s product page describes GST and non-GST invoices, inventory, payment tracking, GST reports, e-invoicing and e-way billing. This makes it a candidate for a billing-led small business that wants to assess invoicing, payment and stock handling together.
The feature list does not establish whether the product provides the accounting depth, reporting or controls your business will need as it grows. Before deciding, ask your accountant to review the reports and recordkeeping process you rely on, then verify that the product supports them. Do not infer full fit from invoice or payment features alone.
Recommended Free Tools
A practical evaluation should separate “can we create and track bills?” from “can we maintain and review the full accounting records we need?” Take the reports your accountant currently uses and ask whether the product can produce or support the required information. If it cannot meet those reporting and control needs, a convenient billing workflow may not be sufficient as the business expands.
Match the choice to the business you have
If cloud access and a broad GST feature set are priorities
Start by evaluating Zoho Books against your transaction checklist. Its India page describes the broadest combination in this comparison of GST invoicing, filing, e-invoice and e-way bill workflows, inventory and multi-GSTIN support. Confirm each needed item in the plan you would buy and review the workflow with your accountant.

If your accountant’s desktop-style workflow matters most
Include TallyPrime and test its portal connection, setup and filing workflow with the people who prepare or review your accounts. Check the team’s access and deployment requirements before treating multi-user access as a complete answer to your licensing or collaboration needs.
If stock across multiple godowns is the defining requirement
Evaluate BUSY’s relevant editions alongside the other candidates using your actual locations, items and stock movements. Confirm how its inventory workflow connects to invoicing and reporting, and factor the stated GST charge into the price comparison.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →If the business is primarily billing-led
Consider myBillBook for its described invoices, payment tracking, inventory and GST reports, but make accounting depth and controls a separate pass/fail check. A billing workflow that works today is not enough if it leaves a gap in the records and reporting your business needs as it expands.
These are starting points for a shortlist, not universal winners. A cloud-first preference, familiarity with a desktop-oriented workflow, complex stock across locations or a billing-led operation will change which product deserves the closest test. If your main requirement is not represented by the vendor-described capabilities above, ask each vendor to demonstrate that requirement before making a decision.

Software selection is only one part of the decision. A change also affects records, staff routines and the accountant’s review process. Get clear answers to these questions before moving live data:
- Transaction coverage: Can the product represent the invoice and tax cases your business actually processes? Can your accountant review the resulting reports or filing workflow?
- Plan boundaries: Which selected-plan limits apply to users, inventory, GST features and the reporting you need? Are any capabilities shown on a product page restricted to another edition?
- Access and oversight: Can each employee and external accountant do the work they need, with appropriate access? How do edit logs or audit history work in the chosen setup?
- Data movement: What can be exported from the current system, and in what form? Can a sample migration preserve the records and information the business depends on?
- Support and transition: What onboarding and support are available, what do they cost, and who will check the migrated records before the team relies on them?
- Full recurring cost: What is the current price for the required plan and billing cycle, and are there additional charges such as the GST added to BUSY’s displayed price?
Before moving live records, agree on what the sample migration must demonstrate. Compare the exported data with the records in the new system, check whether key information is retained, and have the people responsible for accounting review the result. Confirm what support is available during setup and who will resolve questions when actual transactions are entered. The information summarized here does not establish the onboarding terms or migration tools for any vendor, so ask each directly.
Do not switch accounting systems solely because a demo shows one attractive feature. Make the final decision only after the business and its accountant have tested the workflows and reconciliations that matter, reviewed the commercial terms and agreed on how the transition will be checked.

What “GST-compliant” should mean in your selection
A vendor’s description of GST features is a starting point for evaluation, not proof that software will make every transaction or filing compliant automatically. The exact requirements depend on your business’s circumstances and transactions. Ask a qualified accountant to confirm the fields, tax treatment, reports and filing steps relevant to your business, and verify how the product handles them in the plan you intend to use.
For all four products, the feature claims summarized here are vendor-published statements, not independent assessments. The information does not provide a fair comparative measure of productivity, market share, usability or accounting accuracy. Choose based on a demonstrated fit with your own test cases, not a marketing percentage or an assumption that a longer feature list necessarily means a better result.
Likewise, the product details do not establish that any one option is easier to use, faster, more reliable or more accurate than the others. Those questions require your own trial with representative work. If you need an independent basis for comparing performance, look for a properly documented evaluation using consistent test cases rather than relying on a vendor’s broad marketing claim.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which GST-compliant accounting software is best for a growing small business in India?
For a cloud-first business, Zoho Books is a strong starting point based on its vendor-described GST invoicing, online return filing, e-invoicing, e-way bills, inventory and multi-GSTIN support. TallyPrime merits comparison if your business or accountant prefers its desktop-style workflow and GST portal connection. BUSY and myBillBook may fit particular inventory- or billing-led needs. Confirm that the exact plan and setup handle your transactions before choosing.
Which accounting software do you use for invoicing, bills, and inventory?
That wording appeared as a question in an individual Reddit discussion; it is not evidence that the question is common or that any one product is the preferred answer. For your own choice, compare the invoice, payment, inventory and accounting workflows you need in each product’s relevant plan, and review them with your accountant.
How much does Zoho Books cost in India?
The vendor’s India page listed a free plan, Standard at ₹749 per month with annual billing or ₹899 monthly, and Professional at ₹1,499 per month with annual billing or ₹1,799 monthly when accessed on October 13, 2026. Premium, Elite and Ultimate tiers were also listed, but prices are not stated here. Verify current prices, billing commitments and plan limits with Zoho.
Are GST filing and e-invoicing included in every plan?
The vendor descriptions establish that the products list particular GST capabilities, but they do not establish that each capability is included in every plan or edition. Ask the vendor to confirm the exact plan, transaction types and limits, then test the workflow with your accountant.
What should I check before migrating accounting software?
Confirm transaction coverage, plan and user limits, accountant access, export and migration options, onboarding and support costs, and total recurring price. Test a sample dataset, have the responsible staff and accountant review the migrated records, and agree how the transition will be checked before moving live data.
The Bottom Line
For a growing Indian business seeking cloud-first accounting, Zoho Books is a strong place to start; compare TallyPrime if a desktop-style workflow and GST portal connection matter more. Evaluate BUSY for relevant multiple-godown and invoicing needs, and myBillBook when billing and payment workflows are central—but verify accounting depth and controls. No product is established here as a universal winner: test your actual transactions, plan limits, accountant workflow, full cost and sample migration before committing.
