The GL.iNet GL-MT3600BE Beryl 7 is a strong fit for travelers who want a compact router to share hotel Wi-Fi, Ethernet, phone tethering, or a compatible USB cellular modem across their devices—with optional VPN routing. Its Wi-Fi 7, USB-C power input, and two 2.5GbE ports make it unusually flexible for a portable gateway. The available evidence does not establish it as the best travel router overall: there are no controlled comparisons against competing models.
What the Beryl 7 is—and who should consider it
Beryl 7 is a dual-band Wi-Fi 7 travel router, model GL-MT3600BE. It takes an internet connection from another source and shares it over its own Wi-Fi network or Ethernet. That makes it useful when you want your devices to connect through one router in a hotel or other location, rather than joining each device to the venue network separately.
It is especially worth considering if you want several connection options, dual 2.5GbE ports, USB-C power input, and configurable routing features in a small device. It is less compelling if you only need occasional Wi-Fi on one device, or expect the router itself to provide mobile internet. GL.iNet describes it as designed for mobile scenarios such as business trips and vacations; that is the manufacturer’s description, not an independent comparative verdict. GL.iNet Router Docs 4 product overview

Can it share hotel Wi-Fi with all your devices?
Yes. In repeater mode, Beryl 7 can connect to an existing Wi-Fi network and broadcast a network for your own devices. That can simplify connecting devices that you want to keep on one personal network. Whether this works smoothly depends on the venue network’s login and access rules; the sources do not establish universal compatibility with captive portals or every hotel Wi-Fi setup.
TechRadar reviewer Collin Probst reported using a Beryl 7 at a hotel to rebroadcast the hotel Wi-Fi to five iPads, a laptop, and a couple of phones, describing the connection as stable enough for that group. This is one reviewer’s account, not a controlled test of maximum device capacity, speed, or reliability. TechRadar review by Collin Probst, published September 8, 2026

How you can get it online
The router shares an upstream connection; it does not create internet access on its own. You need a venue connection, a tethered phone, or a compatible cellular modem and service. GL.iNet’s guide documents four connection paths:
Recommended Free Tools
- Ethernet: Connect a wired internet source to the 2.5GbE WAN port.
- Hotel or public Wi-Fi: Select repeater mode in the admin panel and connect the router to the available wireless network.
- Phone tethering: Connect the phone by USB, enable USB tethering on the phone, then select the connection through the router’s admin panel.
- USB cellular modem: Plug a compatible modem into the USB port and configure the connection in the admin panel. Modem compatibility and cellular service are separate requirements.
Initial setup
- Connect a phone or computer to the router by Wi-Fi or Ethernet.
- Open 192.168.8.1 in a browser and set the administrator password.
- Choose the internet connection method—Ethernet, repeater, USB tethering, or cellular modem—and follow the on-screen setup.
- For phone tethering, connect the phone to USB and enable USB tethering on the phone before completing setup in the admin panel.
These setup steps and connection modes are documented in the GL.iNet user guide.

Does USB-C power make it easier to travel with?
The Beryl 7 accepts USB-C PD power at the voltage and current combinations listed in its datasheet. That provides another way to power it when you have a compatible supply, but it does not mean every USB-C charger or power bank will work at the required level. GL.iNet includes a power adapter, so an extra charger is not inherently required. The datasheet also lists USB output of 5V/2A for most 4G/5G dongles, while noting USB load is excluded from the router’s stated maximum power consumption.
VPN and other routing features
GL.iNet lists WireGuard and OpenVPN-DCO maximum VPN rates, and advertises VPN client/server support. Its figures should be treated as manufacturer specifications rather than expected speeds in a hotel room: the upstream connection, VPN endpoint, protocol configuration, and other conditions affect actual performance. The router also advertises AdGuard Home, Multi-WAN failover, and an OpenWrt-based SDK. These may appeal to users who want more control over filtering and routing, but the feature list alone does not establish how a particular configuration will perform.

Portability, included items, and build considerations
The datasheet gives dimensions of 120 x 83 x 34 mm and weight of 205 g. GL.iNet lists a power adapter, Ethernet cable, manual, and EU/UK/AU plug converters in the package. Those included items cover basic setup without requiring a separate Ethernet cable purchase.

Is it the best travel router?
The evidence supports calling Beryl 7 a capable Wi-Fi 7 travel-router option for people who value flexible uplinks, two 2.5GbE ports, USB-C PD input, and configurable VPN routing. It does not support a market-wide “best” claim: there are no controlled comparative measurements here against competing travel routers, and no independent Beryl 7 speed or long-term reliability results.
For a meaningful comparison with another model, check the same region and date for price and availability, then compare Wi-Fi bands and standard, port count and speed, tested VPN throughput under the same protocol and method, power requirements, size and weight, connection modes, and USB modem tethering support. The Beryl 7’s specifications answer those questions for this model, but the available evidence does not verify current rival specifications or prices.
