Before you automate a Gemini Spark task, audit five things: the information sources it can reach, connected Google and custom apps, browser sign-in access, Keep Activity and stored execution data, and the task’s schedule and confirmation rules. Spark can combine personal context from chats, tasks, schedules, connected services, signed-in websites and remote-computer files. Give each task only the access it needs, keep a person in the loop for consequential actions, and treat disconnecting an app as different from deleting information already present in chats.
Google describes Spark as a beta feature, so labels, eligibility and available controls can change. Check the settings shown for your account, country, language, device and Gemini app before enabling an automation.
Start with a data-flow inventory
Write down what the task must read, where that information lives and what it must change. Google says Spark may use task and schedule information, skills, chats, Connected Apps, connected folders, Personal Intelligence, location, websites where you are signed in and other available information. A remote-computer task can also create files containing material drawn from connected sources.
For browser work, the relevant data is not limited to public pages. Spark may process page content and session cookies containing authentication information. That means a task that appears to be “checking a website” could have access to an account, order history, private dashboard or messages in that signed-in session.

Classify each source by sensitivity
- Public information: pages available without signing in. This is lower risk, but personalization from a service may still be separate from public search or video information.
- Personal Google data: contacts, photos, wallet information, Workspace content, search services or YouTube data, where those options are available to your account.
- Authenticated websites: sites opened through local Chrome or Spark’s remote browser while you are signed in.
- Third-party data: information sent to a custom Model Context Protocol (MCP) app and any data that app returns or stores.
- Persistent task data: chats, schedules, activity records, remote-browser data, remote-computer history and generated files.
If you cannot explain why a source is required, leave it disconnected or use a task that does not need it. This is more effective than granting broad access and hoping the prompt limits what Spark reads.
Use the permissions controls as separate switches
There is no single privacy switch that makes every Spark task private. The controls differ by data source, whether information is public or authenticated, how long it persists and whether the control disconnects, deletes, pauses or merely stops an action.
| Control or source | What it governs | Important limit |
|---|---|---|
| Connected Apps and Personal Intelligence | Access to eligible Google services and personal context | Disconnecting personalization does not necessarily block public information from services such as Search or YouTube. |
| Custom MCP app | Data and actions handled by an external provider | Google does not control, monitor or secure third-party MCP servers; their own policies apply. |
| Local Chrome access | Websites available in your device’s Chrome session | May expose signed-in sites, page content and authentication cookies. |
| Remote browser | A browser session operated by Spark | Requires Keep Activity and can retain remote-browser data until you delete it. |
| Remote computer | Computer actions, files and execution history | Files may contain sensitive information from connected sources. |
| Keep Activity | Activity retention and access to Spark remote features | Turning it off does not mean chats receive no processing. |
| Schedules and confirmations | When a task runs and whether a person approves an action | An offline schedule can complete an unintended action before you can stop it. |
Review Connected Apps and Personal Intelligence
Open the Connected Apps area and inspect every service available to your account before creating a task. Depending on eligibility, you may see Contacts, Photos, Wallet, Workspace, Search services or YouTube. The exact list varies by location, device, language and Gemini app, so do not assume that another account’s list is the same as yours.
Disconnect anything the workflow does not need
- List the task’s required sources, such as one Workspace folder or a particular calendar context.
- Open Gemini’s Connected Apps settings and identify services that provide those sources.
- Disconnect services unrelated to the task, especially services containing financial, health, identity or private communications data.
- Run the task with the reduced set of connections and check whether it still produces the required result.
Personalization access and public access are different. Disconnecting a service can prevent future use of that service’s personal data for personalization, yet Gemini may still use publicly available information from the service. Do not treat an app disconnect as a blanket block on everything associated with that company or website.
Evaluate every custom MCP app as an independent third party
A custom MCP app is not covered by Google’s own security and privacy controls in the same way as a Google service. Google’s Gemini Apps Help documentation states: “Google does not control, monitor, or secure third-party MCP servers.” Information sent to one is subject to the provider’s privacy practices, terms and technical safeguards.
Questions to answer before connecting
- Who operates the server, and does it publish a privacy policy and terms?
- What information does the app request, and can the request be narrowed to the fields or folders needed?
- Does it only retrieve information, or can it create, edit, send, archive, delete or share data?
- Where might the provider store prompts, results, files or account identifiers?
- How do you revoke access, delete stored data and remove the app?
Connect only providers you can evaluate. Remove apps that are no longer needed, and revoke their permissions when unlinking them. A custom app can request more information than a particular task requires, so read the requested scopes rather than relying on the app’s name or description.
Distinguish local Chrome from Spark’s remote browser
Local auto-browse and remote-browser automation are separate modes, but both can involve sensitive website information.
Local Chrome access
The first time Spark browses locally on a device, Chrome asks you to connect Spark. Approving that connection can let Spark use the same websites you can access in that browser, including signed-in sites. Before approving, close unrelated tabs, sign out of sensitive services where practical and consider using a browser profile that contains only the accounts required for the task.

If the task behaves unexpectedly, use Stop or Take Control. Do not leave an automation running in a session that contains unrelated email, financial, workplace or administration tabs.
Remote browser access
A remote browser is a separate environment operated by Spark. It can still handle authenticated sessions and page content, so remote does not mean anonymous. Review which sites the task will visit, what sign-in state it needs and what data the remote session may retain.
Deleting remote-browser data signs you out of all sites in that remote browser. Plan to authenticate again before a later task, and make sure deleting the session will not interrupt another workflow that depends on it.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Check Keep Activity before enabling remote features
Google says Keep Activity must be on for Spark’s remote-browser and remote-computer features. Turning Keep Activity off therefore limits those features, but it is not a promise of zero processing. Google says chats are still used to respond and to help protect Google, its users and the public, including with help from human reviewers.
Manage stored Spark data
Spark settings provide controls to delete remote-browser data and to manage or clear remote-computer execution history and files. Use them as part of a retention plan rather than waiting for a problem.
- Delete remote-browser data after a task that handled sensitive accounts, when you no longer need its signed-in session.
- Review remote-computer history and files for copied documents, exports or screenshots.
- Remove files that contain credentials, personal identifiers or confidential business information as soon as the workflow is complete.
- Keep only the history needed for troubleshooting or audit purposes.
Turning Spark off deletes its remote-browser and remote-computer data and pauses tasks and schedules. Turning Spark back on resumes those paused tasks and schedules. Before re-enabling it, inspect the paused list and confirm that each automation is still wanted and correctly configured.
Design a least-privilege task
Translate the inventory into a narrow task specification before you write the prompt. Name the exact source, operation and expected output. For example, “read this Workspace folder and prepare a draft” is narrower than “review my Workspace.” If a task only needs a public web page, do not connect a personal service or authenticated browser. If it needs one file, provide that file rather than an entire folder when the interface allows it.
- Separate read from write. Start with retrieval, summarization or draft creation. Add a write step only after you know which record, recipient or file will change.
- Limit the account context. Use a browser profile or remote session containing only the required sign-ins. Close unrelated tabs and remove unused connected apps.
- Limit the time window. Use a one-time run or low-frequency schedule while testing. Avoid leaving a broad recurring schedule enabled by default.
- Define a stop condition. State what Spark should do when data is missing, a page changes, a login is requested or the target is ambiguous: stop and ask for confirmation.
- Document the intended result. Record the expected file, message, recipient or changed field so you can compare the result after execution.
These boundaries do not replace Google’s controls, but they make excess access easier to spot. Revisit them whenever you add a new app, website, skill or schedule.

Match the control to the problem
| Problem | Most relevant response | What it does not solve |
|---|---|---|
| An app is no longer needed | Disconnect it and revoke its permissions | It may not remove information already present in chats. |
| A remote session contains sensitive sign-ins | Delete remote-browser data | You will be signed out and must authenticate again. |
| A computer run created confidential files | Clear remote-computer history and files | Copies already sent to another connected service may require separate cleanup. |
| You do not want unattended execution | Pause or remove the schedule and use manual confirmation | A task already running may still need to be stopped or checked. |
| You want to disable remote features | Turn Keep Activity off | Chats can still be processed for responses and safety purposes. |
| You want Spark fully inactive for a period | Turn Spark off | Turning it back on resumes paused tasks and schedules. |
Review schedules and confirmation behavior
A task that is safe when watched can be risky when it runs unattended. Google warns that if a schedule runs while you are offline, an unintended action may finish before you can stop it.
Use a staged schedule
- Run the task manually with read-only instructions and inspect the sources it uses.
- Test it on sample or non-critical data.
- Schedule a low-frequency run and review the output before increasing frequency.
- Set the schedule only after confirming the time zone, recurrence and account context.
- After the first scheduled run, check the resulting messages, files or records rather than assuming success.
For custom MCP apps, Google says write actions currently require manual confirmation. Confirmation is a useful barrier, not a guarantee: Spark can make mistakes, and a person can approve the wrong target. Supervise actions that change, send, archive or share information, and verify the result afterward.
Actions that deserve human supervision
- Sending email, messages, forms or public posts.
- Changing records, permissions, subscriptions or account settings.
- Archiving or deleting files and messages.
- Sharing documents or inviting people to a workspace.
- Purchasing, transferring funds or submitting an official request.
For these workflows, separate information gathering from the final write action. Have Spark prepare a draft or report, then approve the exact recipient, file, amount or change yourself.

Audit the first runs and respond to surprises
After each early run, compare what Spark actually accessed with the inventory you approved. Check the URLs visited, the connected source used, files created, messages drafted or sent and any confirmation that appeared. A successful-looking answer does not prove that the task stayed within scope.
If Spark opens an unexpected site, reaches the wrong account or starts an unintended change, use Stop or Take Control for local browsing. For a scheduled workflow, pause the schedule before investigating further. Disconnect the implicated app or custom MCP server, revoke its permissions and clear remote-browser or remote-computer data when appropriate. Then delete chats or files that contain information you no longer want retained. Document what happened before rebuilding the task with narrower sources and a read-only test.
Remember that source cleanup and Gemini cleanup are separate operations. Removing a file or changing an account record may not instantly change an earlier chat or the Gemini experience.
Understand what disconnecting and deleting actually do
Disconnecting a Connected App does not necessarily remove information that already appears in an earlier Gemini chat. If a chat contains remembered information from that source, delete the chat as well as disconnecting the app to prevent future access through that connection.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Google’s guidance also notes that deleting or updating source data can take days to affect the Gemini experience. Treat the source change and the Gemini cleanup as separate steps, and allow for propagation time.

Public information can remain usable after you disconnect an app from personalization. If your requirement is to avoid a public page or service entirely, do not rely on the Connected Apps switch; remove that source from the task and avoid browsing it.

Common mistakes and safer fixes
“I disconnected the app, so old data is gone.”
It is not necessarily gone from earlier chats. Delete chats containing the remembered information and allow time for source changes to affect the Gemini experience.
“Keep Activity is off, so nothing is processed.”
Keep Activity off blocks Spark’s remote-browser and remote-computer features, but Google says chats can still be used to respond and for safety purposes, including human review.

Remote browsing can handle authenticated sessions. Remove unnecessary sign-ins, use a limited browser profile and delete remote-browser data when finished.
“A confirmation prompt makes a write action safe.”
Confirmation reduces unattended changes, but Spark may still make a mistake and a person may approve it. Check the exact target and verify the completed action.
“Turning Spark off permanently cancels schedules.”
Turning it off pauses schedules; turning it back on resumes them. Review the paused tasks before re-enabling Spark.
Availability and account differences
Spark is documented as a beta feature. Custom app access has eligibility requirements, and Connected Apps vary by country, language, device and Gemini app. Settings labels and behavior can change. Google’s Gemini Apps Help pages reviewed October 13, 2026, describe the controls covered here, but your account may show a different set. If a control described here is absent, check the current Gemini Help documentation and the settings displayed for your account rather than assuming the feature is available or unavailable globally.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does turning Keep Activity off stop all Gemini processing?
No. It limits Spark’s remote-browser and remote-computer features, but Google says chats can still be used to respond and to help protect Google, users and the public, including with human reviewers.

Does disconnecting a Connected App delete information from old chats?
Not necessarily. Disconnect the app and delete chats that contain remembered information from it. Changes to source data can also take days to affect the Gemini experience.
Can Spark browse websites where I am signed in?
Yes. Local Chrome access and Spark’s remote browser can involve authenticated websites, page content and session cookies containing authentication information.
Are custom MCP apps covered by Google’s protections?
They are separate third-party services. Google says it does not control, monitor or secure third-party MCP servers, so review each provider’s policy, terms, requested data and actions.

What happens to schedules when Spark is turned off?
Spark deletes its remote-browser and remote-computer data and pauses tasks and schedules. Turning Spark back on resumes those paused tasks and schedules.
Can a scheduled task finish while I am offline?
Yes. Google warns that an unintended action may complete before you can stop it. Test schedules carefully and supervise consequential writes.
Do custom MCP write actions require confirmation?
Google says write actions for custom MCP apps currently require manual confirmation. Treat that as a safeguard, not a guarantee, and verify the exact target and result.

Before automating, map every source Spark can reach, disconnect unnecessary Google services, vet each custom MCP provider, isolate signed-in browser sessions, and decide how remote data will be deleted. Keep Activity controls remote features but does not eliminate chat processing. Start with read-only runs, require human approval for consequential writes, and remember that stopping, pausing, disconnecting and deleting have different effects.
