Choose the Garmin HRM-Pro Plus if you want the broadest set of documented running and multisport features; choose the HRM-Dual for straightforward heart-rate transmission, or the HRM-Fit if you want a clip-on monitor for a compatible sports bra. The right pick depends on the activity and the watch, app, or equipment receiving the data—not on a proven accuracy ranking.

Garmin lists multiple monitor families, including HRM 600, HRM-Fit, HRM-Pro Plus, HRM 200, and HRM-Swim. Availability and product details can vary by region; check Garmin’s heart rate monitor category for your location.
Why choose the HRM-Pro Plus?
The HRM-Pro Plus is the strongest fit among these picks when you want more than a heart-rate feed. Garmin says it transmits over ANT+ and BLE, provides running dynamics, calculates pace and distance for indoor runs, and can store heart-rate data during swimming for transfer to a compatible smartwatch afterward. Garmin also describes step, calorie, and intensity-minute tracking when you are not wearing a watch. These are manufacturer-described features, and device compatibility matters; they are not independent performance-test results. See Garmin’s HRM-Pro Plus announcement and product comparison.
Published specifications to know
- Battery: Garmin lists a CR2032 battery and estimates up to 12 months under its stated tri-training use pattern of one hour per day.
- Water rating: Garmin lists 5 ATM.
- Strap range: Garmin lists 25 to 36.5 inches.
- Connections: Garmin lists three concurrent BLE connections and no stated limit over ANT+.
- Battery door: Garmin describes a tool-free battery door.
These are published specifications and a manufacturer battery-life estimate, not independently measured results. Garmin announced the HRM-Pro Plus at a suggested retail price of $129.99 in July 2022; that historical launch price is not a current price quote.

When the HRM-Dual is the better fit
If your main goal is sending heart rate to a compatible watch, app, or exercise machine, the HRM-Dual covers the two common wireless protocols: ANT+ and BLE. Garmin’s UK product page says it supports compatible Garmin devices, online training apps such as Zwift, and compatible fitness equipment. It does not establish the Pro Plus’s indoor pace-and-distance, running-dynamics, or swim-storage feature set for the HRM-Dual.
Garmin’s UK page lists a CR2032 battery, an adjustable washable strap, a 1 ATM water rating, ANT+ transmission without a stated connection limit, and up to two concurrent BLE connections. It estimates up to 3.5 years of battery life using one hour per day. These details are from Garmin’s UK listing and may differ from listings in other regions. See the HRM-Dual product page.

When to consider the HRM-Fit or HRM-Swim
HRM-Fit for a clip-on form factor
Garmin describes the HRM-Fit as a clip-on monitor designed for medium- and high-support sports bras. If that attachment style suits your workout clothing better than a conventional chest strap, it is the relevant option in this comparison. Garmin’s manual says running dynamics require a compatible Garmin device and an ANT+ pairing; confirm compatibility before buying. See the HRM-Fit product page and HRM-Fit manual.
HRM-Swim for swimming
Garmin’s product category identifies HRM-Swim as designed for swimmers, but the available product information here does not establish its full current feature set or compatibility details. If you are choosing specifically for swim training, verify those details on Garmin’s regional product page. The documented alternative is HRM-Pro Plus, which Garmin says stores swim heart-rate data for later transfer to a compatible smartwatch.

Check compatibility before you buy
Wireless protocols are not interchangeable by assumption: confirm that your receiving watch, phone, app, or exercise machine supports the monitor’s transmission method and the specific metric you want. A strap may transmit heart rate successfully while a feature such as running dynamics still requires a compatible Garmin device and particular pairing method.
- For the HRM-Pro Plus’s phone, tablet, smartwatch, or fitness-equipment Bluetooth connection, Garmin’s manual says to wear the monitor and bring the receiving device within 3 m (10 ft.).
- During Bluetooth pairing, Garmin advises staying 10 m (33 ft.) away from other wireless sensors.
- For compatible exercise equipment, look for ANT+ or Bluetooth logos.
Follow the receiving device’s instructions to open Bluetooth settings and select the monitor. Garmin provides the steps in its HRM-Pro Plus pairing instructions.

Which Garmin heart rate monitor is most accurate?
The documented information supports comparing features, protocols, and compatibility, but it does not establish an accuracy winner. Garmin’s product pages and manuals describe the monitors’ capabilities; they are not independent, head-to-head accuracy tests. Treat claims about one model being the most accurate as unverified unless they are backed by comparable testing under stated conditions.

- Start with your workout. For indoor running pace and distance, running dynamics, or stored swim heart rate, look first at HRM-Pro Plus. For basic heart-rate broadcasting, consider HRM-Dual. For a sports-bra clip-on, consider HRM-Fit.
- Check your receiver. Confirm that your watch, phone app, or exercise machine supports ANT+ or BLE as needed. For specialized metrics, verify the required compatible Garmin device and pairing method.
- Match the form factor and intended activity. Consider whether you want a traditional strap or the HRM-Fit clip-on. For HRM-Swim, confirm current regional specifications before relying on a particular feature.
- Compare published specifications with your needs. Battery estimates, water ratings, strap sizing, and connection limits differ by model; Garmin’s product pages provide the applicable regional details.
Garmin also lists replacement straps and related accessories. If you need a replacement, verify that it fits your exact monitor model rather than assuming straps are interchangeable.
