Several GameCube games remain compelling candidates for a modern remaster, but “deserve” is an editorial judgment—not a measure of announced plans. This list weighs how difficult a game is to access, what updated technology could improve, and how distinctive its original design remains. Availability has changed: Nintendo Australia’s Switch 2 GameCube Classics catalogue includes four picks and lists another as upcoming, but those are catalogue reproductions, not standalone remasters.

What counts as a remaster candidate?

The ten choices below follow the selection logic of Cheat Code Central’s August 18, 2026 article: present-day access, room for a technical upgrade, and enduring design quality. The rankings are editorial, not an independently verified scorecard. To make the trade-offs clearer, each entry also notes the scale of change it would need: a presentation update, added content, or a more substantial redesign.

Access varies by territory and date. Nintendo Australia’s Switch 2 GameCube Classics catalogue, checked October 7, 2026, lists F-Zero GX, Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance, Star Fox Adventures, and Luigi’s Mansion; it lists Pokémon Colosseum as upcoming. The service is Switch 2-exclusive, requires paid Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack access, and offers reproductions of original games with some performance and presentation differences. That is useful access, but it is not the same product as a dedicated remaster. Catalogue offerings can differ outside Australia.

10 GameCube games that merit a modern revival

1. Eternal Darkness: Sanity’s Requiem

Eternal Darkness stands out for its multi-era horror story and sanity effects, which make the presentation itself part of the scare. A remaster could use sharper visuals, improved lighting, and carefully preserved effects to make its unsettling shifts legible on modern displays without sanding away the surprises. The case is strongest as a focused presentation update rather than a redesign of the horror systems. The source article raises rights complications and limited modern access, but those points are not established here as current, jurisdiction-wide facts.

#1 Best Overall
Super Smash Bros Melee - GameCube (Renewed)
  • Disc only. Original case and manual not included. Will come packaged in a generic case.
  • This renewed game has been cleaned, tested, and shows minimal wear.

2. F-Zero GX

F-Zero GX pairs demanding high-speed racing with a story mode. A new release could preserve the unforgiving handling while improving visual clarity and adding the F-Zero AX arcade content proposed by the source article. That would make this a content-enhanced remaster rather than just a resolution bump. Nintendo Australia’s catalogue currently includes the original for Switch 2 subscribers; that does not establish a separate remaster or an expanded release.

3. Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance

This home-console strategy RPG earns its place through the Tellius setting and a story that engages with prejudice. A revival could make maps easier to read on modern displays and, as the source article proposes, improve save continuity with Radiant Dawn. Those are potential design choices, not announced features. Nintendo Australia’s catalogue includes the original, so claims that it is unavailable everywhere would be too broad.

Super Mario Sunshine (Renewed)
  • Disc only. Original case and manual not included. Will come packaged in a generic case.
  • This renewed game has been cleaned, tested, and shows minimal wear.

4. Star Fox Adventures

Developed by Rare and reworked from Dinosaur Planet, Star Fox Adventures takes the series into adventure territory. The source article’s case is not that it needs to become a different genre: it proposes addressing combat and pacing while respecting the structure that makes it unusual in the series. That points toward a remake with selective mechanical changes, a more ambitious intervention than an HD pass. Nintendo Australia’s catalogue includes the original on Switch 2.

5. Star Fox Assault

Star Fox Assault alternates between Arwing flight, Landmaster driving, and on-foot missions. The source article considers the vehicle segments the stronger part and suggests refining the on-foot play and adding online multiplayer. Those are editorial proposals, not demonstrated fixes or evidence of developer plans. If the goal is to preserve the hybrid structure, a remaster could concentrate on controls and presentation; adding or rebuilding multiplayer would expand its scope.

Rank #3
Luigis Mansion - Gamecube (Renewed)
  • Disc only. Original case and manual not included. Will come packaged in a generic case.
  • This renewed game has been cleaned, tested, and shows minimal wear.

6. Luigi’s Mansion

The original’s compact mansion is well suited to a visual update that makes its rooms and ghost-hunting readable on a television. The source article notes that a 3DS remake exists but argues for a dedicated home-console version. Nintendo Australia’s Switch 2 catalogue now provides access to the GameCube original in that region, but a subscription reproduction is distinct from a standalone remake designed for modern hardware.

7. Billy Hatcher and the Giant Egg

Billy Hatcher and the Giant Egg is built around an unusual platforming mechanic: rolling and using eggs. Its distinctive central idea gives a remaster a clear focus—preserve the movement and make the presentation work cleanly on current displays. The source article argues for a comparatively modest remaster rather than a full remake, and points to the long gap without a re-release as part of its case. It does not establish current availability in every territory.

Rank #4
Mario Party 4 (Renewed)
  • Disc only. Original case and manual not included. Will come packaged in a generic case.
  • This renewed game has been cleaned, tested, and shows minimal wear.

8. Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes

This GameCube remake of the original PlayStation Metal Gear Solid incorporates mechanics associated with Metal Gear Solid 2 and newly directed cutscenes. Its distinct version of a familiar story makes preservation and access part of the appeal. A modern release could improve presentation and make the game easier to play on current hardware, but the source article raises rights and franchise-management complications without establishing a definitive legal ruling. Any claim about who can authorize a release would need stronger, current evidence.

9. Super Monkey Ball 2

Super Monkey Ball 2 combines precision obstacle-course play with a story mode and party games. A remaster could retain the demanding movement while modernizing visuals; the source article also proposes online party modes. Online play would be an added feature, not a known plan or proof of player demand. That makes the most conservative version a presentation update, with online modes an optional expansion.

10. Pokémon Colosseum

Pokémon Colosseum offers the Orre setting and Shadow Pokémon premise as a tonal alternative to the mainline games. A modern edition could make that distinct identity easier to revisit, while preserving the original’s role-playing structure. Nintendo Australia’s catalogue lists it as upcoming, so its status is not simply “unavailable” there; the listing is regional and does not establish a release date or availability elsewhere.

Which game would benefit most from a remaster?

Eternal Darkness makes the strongest case for a revival that preserves an unusual design while using modern lighting and display technology to sharpen its horror. For a more concrete content-enhanced project, F-Zero GX has a clear route in the proposed addition of arcade content. Star Fox Adventures is the riskiest candidate because the source article’s desired improvements—combat and pacing—could change how the game feels, making a remake more appropriate than a simple remaster.

These are editorial judgments, not a claim about Nintendo’s priorities. Nintendo’s own precedent shows what a GameCube-origin remaster can entail: in its February 8, 2023 announcement, it described Metroid Prime Remastered as “an HD remaster of the first Metroid Prime game, which originally debuted on the Nintendo GameCube system.” Nintendo also identified HD visuals, enhanced sound, and modern dual-stick controls. That example demonstrates a possible revival approach; it is not a promise about any title on this list.

Which of these games can you play on modern hardware?

The clearest current evidence in the supplied official catalogue is for Nintendo Australia’s Switch 2 service. Four games on this list—F-Zero GX, Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance, Star Fox Adventures, and Luigi’s Mansion—appear in the catalogue; Pokémon Colosseum is marked upcoming. These listings describe access to original-game reproductions through a subscription service, not standalone remasters. Check Nintendo’s catalogue for your region and the latest status before relying on any particular listing.

Already remastered GameCube games: how to read the distinction

Nintendo’s Metroid Prime Remastered is a clear official example of a GameCube game receiving a dedicated HD remaster with visual, audio, and control updates. That is different from a classic-game catalogue release, which makes an original game available through a subscription service with some performance and presentation differences. A remake, meanwhile, may rebuild or materially change mechanics, pacing, or other parts of the game. The labels are not always used consistently, so the practical question is what actually changed and how the game is sold.
