Change the setting that matches the visible problem rather than applying every Enhance-X effect. Use HDR for uneven highlights and shadows, Brighten for an image that is broadly too dark, Fix Blur for obvious blur, and Sharpen for mildly soft edges. Use Fix Moiré, Remove Shadows, Remove Reflection, or Fix Lens Distortion only when that specific artifact is present. Magic is the broad one-tap preview for photos with several minor problems. Always compare the result with the untouched original before saving it as your final version.
Start with the defect, not a preset
Galaxy Enhance-X does not have one universally correct setting for every photograph. Samsung’s feature descriptions assign different tools to different problems, while the reviewed Samsung material does not publish a universal best level for HDR, Brighten, Sharpen, or the other controls. The practical approach is diagnostic: look at the image at its intended viewing size, identify the most distracting defect, and preview one appropriate correction first.
Keep the original file available. If your version of the app offers a duplicate or “save as” choice, work on a copy; Samsung’s feature announcements do not document one universal save-and-undo workflow across all devices and app versions. An untouched original lets you reject an overprocessed result and try a different tool without compounding edits.

What each Enhance-X control is for
Magic: the broad automatic option
Magic is the quickest starting point when several small issues appear together. Samsung says the feature uses deep learning and AI to refine visual noise, blur, and low detail with one tap. That description makes it a broad enhancement, not a guarantee that every photograph will improve or that it will choose the correction you would have selected manually.

Preview Magic when you cannot isolate one dominant defect, then compare it directly with the original. Look for changes in faces, fine textures, skies, and smooth color areas. If Magic improves one region but damages another, undo or discard it and use a targeted tool instead.
HDR: balance tonal range
HDR is the relevant control when bright areas are washed out, dark areas lose useful information, or the image’s lighting and contrast feel uneven. Samsung says HDR analyzes highlights, shading, brightness, and contrast to expand the image’s dynamic range. In Samsung’s 2023 feature announcement, the HDR intensity scale runs from 0 to 4.
There is no Samsung-published level that is best for every scene. Begin with a low or moderate comparison against the original and increase only when the photograph benefits. A stronger setting can make a flat scene look unnatural or reveal noise in shadows, so judge the whole frame rather than one bright window or dark corner.

Brighten: correct overall darkness
Choose Brighten when the photograph is generally underexposed: the subject, background, and midtones all need more light. Samsung lists Brighten as a dedicated correction, but the reviewed material does not establish a universal numeric value or slider position. Make the smallest change that makes the subject readable, then check highlights and skin tones before keeping it.

Brighten is different from HDR. Brighten raises the overall impression of light; HDR is intended for an imbalance between highlights, shadows, brightness, and contrast. If only a person’s face is covered by a cast shadow, use Remove Shadows rather than lifting the entire frame.
Fix Blur and Sharpen are not interchangeable
Use Fix Blur when camera movement, subject movement, or focus error has produced visible blur. Use Sharpen when the photograph is already in focus but edges and fine details look mildly soft. Sharpen increases edge contrast; it does not reverse the same underlying problem as blur correction.
Neither control can recover photographic information that was never recorded. Examine text, hair, foliage, and skin at the size at which you will share the image. Stop when detail looks clearer; excessive sharpening can produce bright or dark halos and emphasize sensor noise.
Fix Moiré: remove repeating screen patterns
Fix Moiré is intended for repeating wavy or colored bands, especially when you photograph a monitor, television, or laptop display. It is not the first choice for ordinary softness, compression artifacts, or a noisy night scene. Apply it only when the repeating pattern is the visible defect and verify that legitimate fine lines have not been softened.

Remove Shadows: target silhouettes
Remove Shadows is for an unwanted shadow or silhouette falling across the image. It is more selective than Brighten: the goal is to reduce the shadow without changing the exposure of the entire photograph. Compare skin, textured walls, and other areas next to the former shadow, because AI reconstruction can be less convincing where the shadow concealed important detail.
Remove Reflection: reduce glare
Choose Remove Reflection when glare or a reflected object obscures the scene, such as a reflection on glass. A reflection may overlap real detail, so inspect the corrected area at full size. Keep the edit only if the replacement looks more plausible for the intended use; do not assume that a clean-looking patch represents the original scene accurately.
Fix Lens Distortion: correct optical shape
Fix Lens Distortion addresses lines or edges that bend because of lens characteristics. Use it for that optical-shape problem rather than assuming it fixes every tilted building, converging vertical, or other perspective error. After correction, check the frame edges for stretching and confirm that the subject’s proportions still look natural.

Old Photo: restoration for aged prints
Samsung describes Old Photo as an AI restoration and clarity feature for old or damaged photographs and says face details are maintained. That is a product description, not an independent measurement of restoration accuracy. Treat the result as an enhanced interpretation: preserve the scan or photograph of the original and compare faces, text, and scratches before replacing it.

Upscale: for genuinely small files
Upscale is for resolution, not a routine finishing step. Samsung says it boosts images under 1 MP by up to four times for sharper detail. “Up to” is a maximum product specification, not a guaranteed result for an individual image, and enlargement cannot recreate detail absent from the source.
Use it for a small download, message attachment, or thumbnail that needs to be displayed larger. Do not upscale a normal-resolution camera photo merely because an enhancement button is available; the larger file may consume more storage without adding useful information.

Magic versus a targeted tool
Magic is appropriate when several mild issues appear together and you want a quick preview. A targeted tool is preferable when you can name the defect. Targeting makes the change easier to evaluate and reduces the chance that an automatic pass alters areas that were already correct.
HDR versus Brighten
Choose HDR when the relationship between light and dark areas is the problem: a bright sky and dark foreground, harsh contrast, or uneven tonal range. Choose Brighten when nearly the whole image is simply too dark. If both conditions exist, preview one at a time and retain the version that preserves highlights and subject detail.

Fix Blur versus Sharpen
Fix Blur is the first preview for obvious smearing or movement softness. Sharpen is the better match for a focused image whose edges lack crispness. Applying both automatically is not a rule; combined processing can exaggerate artifacts, so compare each result with the original before deciding.
Correction versus Upscale
Correction tools change tone, artifacts, or perceived detail. Upscale changes the dimensions of a sub-1-MP file. A small image can still be well exposed and artifact-free, in which case enlargement may be the only relevant operation; a large image with glare or blur needs the corresponding correction instead.
A cautious editing workflow
- Preserve the source. Keep the untouched original in your gallery or make a duplicate if your app version provides that option.
- Inspect before editing. Decide whether the dominant issue is tonal balance, darkness, blur, softness, a screen pattern, a shadow, glare, lens shape, age damage, or file size.
- Preview one suitable tool. Start with a targeted control when the defect is clear. Use Magic as a broad preview when several minor issues are mixed together.
- Compare against the original. Toggle or switch between versions where the interface allows it. Check faces, text, fine texture, highlights, and shadows—not just the most visibly changed area.
- Make a restrained HDR comparison. Samsung documents levels 0–4, but not a universal best level. Try a modest level first and increase only if tonal balance improves without artificial contrast.
- Judge at delivery size. View the image at the size where it will be posted, printed, or shared. A result that looks impressive when zoomed in may look harsh at normal size.
- Keep only a net improvement. Save the edited version only after checking for halos, smeared textures, invented detail, clipped highlights, and unnatural faces.
Why Enhance-X may be missing
Availability depends on the phone, software version, region, and the current Galaxy Store listing. Samsung’s June 20, 2023 launch announcement named Galaxy S23, S22, S21, S20, Note20, and specified Fold and Flip devices running One UI 5.1 or later. That was launch-era information, not a definitive compatibility list for every device in 2026.

A Samsung Camera staff response dated September 30, 2026 addressed a reported case in which Galaxy Enhance-X could not be found after a One UI 9.0 update. The response said search and download were restricted on new software while an app optimized for One UI 9.0 was being prepared, with staged Galaxy Store distribution after optimization and no promised release date. That case does not prove that every One UI 9 phone or every region lacks the app.
- Open Galaxy Store on the Galaxy phone where you want to edit.
- Search for Galaxy Enhance-X and open the listing if it appears.
- Check the listed compatibility and app version before following instructions that refer to a particular button or slider.
- If the listing is unavailable, wait for the device-specific distribution rather than installing an unverified package. Back up important photos before major software changes, as Samsung advised in the support discussion.
Limits you should keep in mind
- Samsung’s numeric claims—HDR levels 0–4 and Upscale for files under 1 MP by up to four times—are feature specifications from its 2023 announcement, not independent image-quality measurements.
- The reviewed material does not establish universal Brighten, Sharpen, or other slider values, a best sequence for every photograph, or a guaranteed result from Magic.
- AI enhancement can alter texture or infer details. It improves an image for viewing; it does not recover a scene with scientific certainty.
- Feature names, controls, and availability can change with the phone model, One UI release, app version, and region. Use the labels shown on your own device.
- No physical accessory is required to change these settings. The relevant prerequisite is a compatible Galaxy phone and an available Galaxy Store listing.
Recommended decision in one glance
For a known defect, choose the matching tool and use the lightest change that solves it. For a generally dull image with several minor problems, preview Magic but scrutinize the result. Use HDR for tonal imbalance, Brighten for overall darkness, Fix Blur for blur, Sharpen for mild softness, and Upscale only for a genuinely small file. Preserve the original, compare at the intended viewing size, and keep the edit only when it improves the photograph without introducing new artifacts.
