Amazon documents Dolby Atmos support on selected Fire TV models—not every Fire TV or every 4K streamer. For movies and shows, confirmed models include the Fire TV Stick 4K – 3rd Gen (2026), Fire TV Stick 4K Plus (2025), Fire TV Stick 4K and 4K Max (1st and 2nd generations), Fire TV Stick (3rd Gen, 2020), and Fire TV (3rd Gen, 2017). You also need an Atmos track in the app or title and compatible audio equipment connected through a path that preserves the format.
Which Fire TV devices support Dolby Atmos for video?
Amazon’s Fire TV device specifications document Atmos or relevant Atmos audio pass-through support for these models:
- Fire TV Stick 4K – 3rd Gen (2026): lists HDMI audio pass-through for Dolby Atmos among supported input formats.
- Fire TV Stick 4K Plus (2025): Amazon’s product description says it supports Dolby Atmos.
- Fire TV Stick 4K Max – 2nd Gen (2023) and Fire TV Stick 4K – 2nd Gen (2023): specifications include Atmos codecs and related audio pass-through support.
- Fire TV Stick 4K Max – 1st Gen (2021): specifications list Dolby Atmos (EC3_JOC). Amazon notes availability on select Netflix, Prime Video, and Disney+ titles when connected to compatible equipment.
- Fire TV Stick (3rd Gen, 2020): Amazon describes Dolby Atmos for immersive sound with compatible content and speakers.
- Fire TV Stick 4K – 1st Gen (2018): Amazon describes immersive Atmos audio when connected to compatible home audio systems.
- Fire TV (3rd Gen, 2017): Amazon’s documentation says this model supports Dolby Atmos.
These are model-specific findings, not a guarantee for every Fire TV device. For example, the Fire TV Stick 4K Select (2025) appears in Amazon’s device lineup, but the reviewed specifications do not verify Atmos support for that model. Amazon’s device specifications and its Fire TV device identification information can help distinguish exact model names and generations; a neighboring model’s support does not establish yours.

Does Dolby Atmos require a 4K Fire TV Stick?
No. Amazon documents Atmos for the Fire TV Stick (3rd Gen, 2020) and Fire TV (3rd Gen, 2017), neither of which is identified here as a 4K model. 4K, HDR, Dolby Vision, or a newer release year is not proof of Atmos support; check the exact Fire TV model instead.

What else is needed for Atmos movies and shows?
The Fire TV player is only one part of the playback chain. Amazon says Atmos is available on select titles, not every program in a supported app, and requires compatible connected equipment. You need all three parts to line up:
- A supported player: confirm the full model and generation against the list above.
- An Atmos audio track: availability depends on the app and individual title. The app must offer an Atmos track for the content you want to watch.
- A compatible audio path: use an Atmos-capable soundbar, AV receiver, or other audio system. The TV and HDMI connections between the player and audio system must pass the format as required by your setup.
A supported Fire TV cannot add Atmos to a title that does not offer it, and the format may not reach the audio system if a device in the connection path does not pass or decode it.

Amazon says listening to this Spatial Audio experience requires an Amazon Music Unlimited or Standard subscription. This list applies to Amazon Music; it is not a complete list of Fire TV devices that support Atmos in video apps. Conversely, a model’s support for video Atmos should not be taken as confirmation that it appears on Amazon Music’s Spatial Audio list.

How to check your Fire TV model
- Find the model name: check your Fire TV’s device settings or product information, then compare the full name and generation—not just “Fire TV Stick”—with Amazon’s Which Fire TV Device Do I Have? support page.
- Check the relevant use: use Amazon’s Fire TV specifications for video playback support, and its separate Spatial Audio list for Amazon Music.
- Verify the playback chain: check that the specific app or title offers Atmos and that the connected TV, soundbar, receiver, and HDMI path support the format.
If Amazon’s model-specific documentation does not state Atmos support, treat it as unverified rather than inferring support from a similar model, 4K capability, or Dolby Vision.
