If you want a Dyson corded vacuum for carpets, hard floors, or pet hair, the Ball Animal 3 is the clearest current option on Dyson’s US site. Dyson lists 290 air watts (AW) of suction and a Motorbar cleaner head, but those are manufacturer specifications and claims—not independent proof that it outcleans other Dyson models. Your choice among Ball Animal 3 versions mainly comes down to which tools are included.
What to know about the Ball Animal 3
Dyson’s US product pages foreground the Ball Animal 3 range as a corded upright. Its Nickel specification page lists 290 AW suction power, a 17.3 lb weight, a 50 ft cord, a 0.45 gallon bin, and 12 cyclones. Dyson does not state a publication year for these figures on the page. Dyson describes three cleaning modes for short-, medium-, and deep-pile carpets and hard floors. It says the Motorbar cleaner head picks up and detangles hair as it cleans, and describes the head as sealing in suction on hard floors. These are Dyson’s product claims, not comparative test results. Dyson also claims the filtration captures 99.97% of particles down to 0.3 microns; that figure should be read specifically as the manufacturer’s filtration claim, not an overall independent performance rating. The versions share the same basic vacuum, but the included accessories differ. Check the live product listing before buying because bundles and stock can change.

How to choose based on floors, hair, and reach
For mixed flooring
The three modes are intended to adapt the cleaner to different floor types, including several carpet pile heights and hard floors. If your home has both rugs and hard flooring, look for whether the mode options match those surfaces and follow Dyson’s instructions for selecting them.

For pet hair
The Motorbar head is designed to pick up and detangle hair during cleaning. If you want a separate tool for pet hair or grooming, the Extra bundle is the version Dyson lists with a tangle-free turbine tool and pet groom tool. Do not assume those accessories come with the base model.
For rooms where outlet access matters
Dyson lists a 50 ft cord. Its separate 50 ft reach description combines the wand, cord, and hose, so it should not be interpreted as 50 ft of cord alone. Consider your room layout and outlet placement when deciding whether that reach suits your cleaning routine.

What the available evidence does—and does not—show
The available product and support pages are from Dyson. They document the company’s specifications, features, accessories, and support parts, but they do not establish which Dyson corded vacuum has the best independently measured real-world cleaning performance. The Ball Animal 3 is therefore a well-documented candidate, not a proven category winner. Dyson’s support directory includes Ball Animal 2 and Ball Multi Floor 2 among upright models, but a support listing alone does not show that either model is currently sold.
