The DJI Air 3S and DJI Mavic 4 Pro each have a published maximum wind-resistance figure of 12 m/s, but that does not make either one safe to fly at that speed. DJI explicitly warns against flying the Air 3S in strong winds of 12 m/s or more, and its Mavic 4 Pro manual cautions that high wind can stop the aircraft returning to its Home Point. Choose a drone for its intended camera work and published specifications, then make the flight decision from actual wind, gusts, route and battery margin—not the headline rating.
Best model for wind resistance?
There is no proven universal winner in the available specifications. DJI publishes maximum wind-resistance figures for several models, but those figures are not equivalent to recommended operating limits, and there is no controlled head-to-head wind test establishing which aircraft performs best in gusts. The practical choice depends on the model’s stated conditions, the job and whether the aircraft can safely return against the wind.
| Model | Published wind-resistance figure | What the qualification means | Flight-time figure |
|---|---|---|---|
| DJI Air 3S | 12 m/s | DJI separately says not to fly in severe weather, including strong winds of 12 m/s or more. | Up to 45 minutes in DJI’s controlled test equivalent to windless operation at sea level, flying forward at 32.4 km/h under its stated settings. |
| DJI Mini 4 Pro | 10.7 m/s | DJI notes that slight vibration can occur in strong winds because of the aircraft’s light weight; its gimbal adjusts to help stabilize footage. | |
| DJI Mavic 4 Pro | 12 m/s, as reported by Tom’s Guide | DJI’s manual warns that high wind can prevent return to Home Point. Advanced RTH adjusts flight speed according to wind speed and direction. | Up to 51 minutes in DJI’s stated windless, sea-level test conditions. |
| DJI Matrice 4 Series | 12 m/s during takeoff and landing | This manufacturer figure is specifically limited to takeoff and landing; it should not be generalized to the full flight. |

What a maximum wind-resistance rating does—and does not—tell you
A manufacturer rating is a specification, not a promise of stable footage, safe flight or a successful return under every condition at that speed. It does not by itself describe gusts, turbulence around buildings or terrain, wind direction on the return leg, or the margin needed to land. DJI’s Air 3S guidance makes the distinction especially clear: it lists 12 m/s maximum wind resistance, while also saying not to fly in severe weather, including strong winds at 12 m/s or more. Treat the caution as a reason not to target the maximum rating as an operating threshold.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
The figures are also not perfectly interchangeable. The Matrice 4 Series figure applies specifically during takeoff and landing. For the Mini 4 Pro, DJI says its lightweight design can lead to slight vibration in strong winds; the gimbal helps stabilize footage, but that is not a claim that the aircraft itself will remain motionless.
How to choose by camera task and aircraft class
Travel photography: DJI Air 3S
DJI positions the Air 3S for travel photography. Its published 12 m/s maximum resistance may be useful context when comparing specifications, but DJI’s severe-weather warning rules out treating that number as a green light to fly in winds at or above 12 m/s. Its stated 45-minute maximum flight time comes from a controlled, windless-equivalent test at sea level with a specified forward speed and settings; it is not a realistic high-wind endurance promise.

Lightweight travel setup: DJI Mini 4 Pro
The Mini 4 Pro’s published maximum wind resistance is 10.7 m/s. DJI says slight vibration is expected in strong winds due to its light weight and notes that the gimbal adjusts to help stabilize footage. This makes the published number only one part of the decision: consider whether the shot can tolerate vibration and whether the route allows a conservative return.
Professional aerial photography: DJI Mavic 4 Pro
DJI positions the Mavic 4 Pro as a triple-camera flagship for professional aerial photography. Its manual says the aircraft may not be able to return to a Home Point if wind speed is too high, and advises flying with caution. Advanced Return to Home adjusts flight speed according to wind speed and direction, but that feature does not remove the need to plan a return route and preserve battery margin.

Tom’s Guide describes a reviewer’s Mavic 4 Pro flight at a windy beach. That is an individual reviewer’s experience, not a controlled comparison against the other models here, so it should not be used to declare the Mavic a proven wind-performance winner.
Enterprise work: DJI Matrice 4 Series
The Matrice 4 Series is an enterprise product family, not a direct consumer alternative to the travel and photography drones above. DJI’s 12 m/s figure is expressly for maximum wind resistance during takeoff and landing. Do not apply it to all flight conditions or use it as a consumer-style ranking.

Check the return flight, not just the launch
Wind can make the trip back harder than the outbound leg. A drone that can fly away from the launch point may have less ability to make headway into a return headwind, and time spent fighting wind draws on the battery. DJI’s Mavic 4 Pro manual directly warns that high wind can prevent return to Home Point. Maximum flight-time figures do not solve this problem: DJI’s Air 3S and Mavic 4 Pro figures are measured in windless test conditions, not as expected durations in strong wind.
- Assess conditions along the whole route, including gusts and exposed or turbulent areas, rather than relying on a single wind reading at takeoff.
- Consider wind direction on the return leg and leave a conservative battery margin for the aircraft to get back and land.
- Do not treat a model’s maximum wind-resistance figure as a recommended limit or proof that flying at that speed is safe.
- Check the current manual and local rules for the aircraft and location. Requirements vary by jurisdiction; the figures here do not establish licensing or flight permissions everywhere.
How to read flight-time claims
DJI lists the Air 3S at up to 45 minutes, measured in a controlled wind-tunnel environment equivalent to windless operation at sea level, flying forward at 32.4 km/h under the stated settings. DJI lists the Mavic 4 Pro at up to 51 minutes based on a windless, sea-level test under its stated settings. These are manufacturer maximums under defined conditions, not expected flight times in high winds. Wind, usage, firmware, accessories and the environment can change actual results.
