DJI Dock compatibility is generation-specific. The original DJI Dock is documented with the Matrice 30 and Matrice 30T; DJI Dock 2 supports only the Matrice 3D and Matrice 3TD; and DJI Dock 3 supports only the Matrice 4D and Matrice 4TD. These aircraft families are not interchangeable between Dock 2 and Dock 3.

DJI Dock compatibility at a glance

DJI treats each Dock generation as a closed aircraft ecosystem. The aircraft, charging hardware, landing interface, flight-control software and cloud-management functions are qualified as a combination, so choosing a drone by airframe alone can lead to an unsupported installation.

Dock system Documented compatible aircraft Primary role described by DJI Multi-dock behavior
Original DJI Dock Matrice 30 and Matrice 30T Dock operations using the Matrice 30 series Confirm the current capability with DJI for the exact firmware and region
DJI Dock 2 Matrice 3D and Matrice 3TD only Matrice 3D for high-precision mapping; Matrice 3TD for security and inspection One drone with multiple docks is not supported by the current firmware; one dock with multiple drones is also not supported
DJI Dock 3 Matrice 4D and Matrice 4TD only Matrice 4D Series operations; Matrice 4TD adds thermal, NIR and laser capabilities One drone can work with multiple docks for multi-dock tasks; multiple drones with one dock is not supported

The most important buying rule is simple: match the aircraft family to the Dock generation named for it. A Matrice 3D-series aircraft is documented for Dock 2, while a Matrice 4D-series aircraft is documented for Dock 3. DJI does not document either family as transferable to the other generation.

Matrice 30

The Matrice 30 is the standard aircraft listed for the original Dock. It is the appropriate reference model when a project needs the original Dock’s established aircraft pairing without the Matrice 30T’s thermal payload.

Matrice 30T

The Matrice 30T is the thermal variant listed alongside the Matrice 30 for the original Dock. It is the relevant choice when the mission requires thermal observation in addition to the Matrice 30-series visual capabilities.

Before buying a first-generation system

The feature matrix establishes the aircraft pairing, but it does not remove practical qualification questions. Confirm the exact firmware versions, regional availability, support status and product lifecycle with DJI before committing to a new deployment. An older Dock may require a specific aircraft, battery, firmware or service arrangement that differs from a recently installed system.

Which drones work with DJI Dock 2?

DJI Dock 2 supports only the Matrice 3D series: the Matrice 3D and Matrice 3TD. DJI’s Dock 2 support FAQ states that Dock 2 “only supports the DJI Matrice 3D series drones,” and that the Matrice 3D series “can only be used with DJI Dock 2.” In practical terms, other DJI enterprise aircraft are not documented as Dock 2 aircraft.

Matrice 3D: mapping-focused configuration

The Matrice 3D is DJI’s mapping-oriented Dock 2 aircraft. DJI describes its mechanical shutter as suitable for 1:500 high-precision mapping. A mechanical shutter helps keep image timing consistent during automated mapping runs, where motion and repeated exposures must be controlled for accurate reconstruction.

Choose the Matrice 3D when the primary deliverable is a survey, orthomosaic, terrain model or other mapping product and thermal inspection is not the deciding requirement. The 1:500 description is DJI’s stated suitability, not a guarantee that every site, altitude, overlap setting or processing workflow will achieve that accuracy.

Matrice 3TD: security and inspection configuration

The Matrice 3TD is the Dock 2 option for security and inspection work. DJI identifies its infrared camera as suitable for security and inspection, making it the better fit when operators need to detect heat differences or inspect assets beyond what a standard visible-light mapping payload provides.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Do not treat the 3TD as a universal upgrade for every mapping job. Its payload emphasis differs from the Matrice 3D’s mapping specialization, so select the aircraft according to the output your operation must produce rather than choosing solely by model number.

Dock 2 pairing limitations

Dock 2’s aircraft rule is two-directional: only Matrice 3D-series drones are supported by Dock 2, and the Matrice 3D series can only be used with Dock 2. A Matrice 4D or Matrice 4TD cannot be substituted for a 3D-series aircraft in a Dock 2 deployment.

Which drones work with DJI Dock 3?

DJI Dock 3 supports only the Matrice 4D Series: the Matrice 4D and Matrice 4TD. DJI’s Dock 3 support FAQ states that Dock 3 “only supports the DJI Matrice 4D Series drones.” This is a closed pairing, not a list of every DJI enterprise aircraft that can land on the platform.

Matrice 4D

The Matrice 4D is the standard Dock 3 aircraft for Matrice 4D Series operations. It is the logical choice when a project needs the Dock 3 platform and the standard 4D payload configuration is sufficient for its inspection, observation or mapping workflow.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Matrice 4TD

The Matrice 4TD adds the capabilities that distinguish it for more demanding inspection and security missions: DJI documents thermal imaging, an NIR auxiliary light and a laser range finder. Thermal imaging supports heat-based observation, the NIR light supports work in near-infrared conditions, and the laser range finder supplies distance information for suitable workflows.

Those additions do not make the 4TD compatible with Dock 2. Dock generation and aircraft family must still match, so a 4TD purchase belongs with Dock 3 planning.

Dock 3 pairing limitations

A Dock 3 installation should be planned around a Matrice 4D or Matrice 4TD from the start. DJI does not document Matrice 3D or Matrice 3TD support on Dock 3, and a Matrice 4D-series aircraft should not be moved to Dock 2.

Can a Matrice 4D be used with DJI Dock 2?

No. DJI documents Dock 2 as supporting only the Matrice 3D series and documents the Matrice 3D series as usable only with Dock 2. The Matrice 4D and Matrice 4TD belong to the Dock 3 pairing. Installing a Matrice 4D on Dock 2 would therefore be outside the documented compatibility matrix, regardless of whether the aircraft appears physically similar or uses related enterprise software.

Does DJI Dock 3 support the Matrice 3TD?

No. The Matrice 3TD is a Dock 2 aircraft. Dock 3’s supported family is the Matrice 4D Series, consisting of the Matrice 4D and Matrice 4TD. If a project specifically needs the Matrice 3TD’s infrared security and inspection role, it should be designed around Dock 2 rather than Dock 3.

Can one drone use multiple DJI Docks?

Dock 2: no under the current firmware rule

DJI states that Dock 2’s current firmware does not support one drone with multiple docks. It also does not support one dock with multiple drones. A Dock 2 deployment should therefore be treated as a one-aircraft, one-dock pairing unless DJI changes the documented firmware capability.

Dock 3: multi-dock tasks are supported

Dock 3 supports one drone with multiple docks for multi-dock tasks. This enables a single Matrice 4D-series aircraft to be assigned across suitably configured Dock 3 locations when the operation is designed for that mode.

Dock 3 still does not support multiple drones with one dock. DJI also notes an exception in multi-dock operation when the dock links with the D-RTK 3 Relay Fixed Deployment Version. Treat that exception as an integration condition to verify during system design, not as a general license to mix aircraft or docks.

How long can the compatible aircraft hover?

DJI’s controlled comparison reports maximum hovering times of 40 minutes for the Matrice 3D Series and 47 minutes for the Matrice 4D Series. DJI identifies these as windless, controlled-test results from 2026. They are not guaranteed mission durations: actual endurance changes with wind, temperature, payload, flight profile, battery condition, firmware and other environmental or operational factors.

Aircraft family DJI-reported maximum hover time How to interpret it
Matrice 3D Series 40 minutes Controlled, windless DJI test; actual results vary
Matrice 4D Series 47 minutes Controlled, windless DJI test; actual results vary

For automated Dock missions, plan around reserve requirements and the return-to-Dock sequence rather than treating the headline hover figure as usable survey time. A route that fits inside a laboratory maximum may still fail to meet operational reserves in wind or cold weather.

Purchase and deployment checklist

Use this sequence before ordering hardware or approving a site design:

  1. Identify the Dock generation. Confirm whether the project uses the original DJI Dock, Dock 2 or Dock 3; the model name determines the starting compatibility set.
  2. Choose only from the documented aircraft family. Use Matrice 30 or 30T for the original Dock, Matrice 3D or 3TD for Dock 2, and Matrice 4D or 4TD for Dock 3.
  3. Match the payload to the mission. Select 3D for DJI-described 1:500 mapping, 3TD for infrared security and inspection, 4D for standard Dock 3 operations, or 4TD when thermal, NIR and laser functions are required.
  4. Check multi-dock architecture. Dock 2 does not support one drone with multiple docks under its current firmware. Dock 3 supports one drone with multiple docks, subject to the documented D-RTK 3 Relay Fixed Deployment Version exception.
  5. Verify software and regional status. Ask DJI or an authorized enterprise dealer to confirm firmware compatibility, regional availability, lifecycle status and any aircraft or Dock restrictions that apply to the installation date.
  6. Validate the complete system. Confirm batteries, charging, network connectivity, FlightHub 2 functions, site permissions and maintenance arrangements as one system rather than purchasing an aircraft separately and assuming it will register with the Dock.

Common compatibility mistakes and fixes

  • Buying by aircraft generation alone: A newer Matrice number does not imply backward compatibility. Fix the mistake by checking the Dock-specific support statement before ordering.
  • Assuming payloads are interchangeable: Thermal or mapping requirements may point to different aircraft within a supported family. Fix this by defining the mission output first.
  • Planning a Dock 2 multi-site rotation: Current Dock 2 firmware does not support one drone with multiple docks. Use separate compatible pairings or redesign around Dock 3’s documented multi-dock capability.
  • Using maximum hover time as a route guarantee: The 40-minute and 47-minute figures are controlled, windless tests. Recalculate routes with reserves for local weather, payload and battery condition.
  • Ignoring lifecycle and regional constraints on the original Dock: The FlightHub 2 matrix documents the Matrice 30 pairing, but a new purchase still needs confirmation of current support, firmware and region.
  • Expecting one dock to accept several aircraft: Dock 2 and Dock 3 are not documented for multiple drones with one dock. Plan the fleet and dock count accordingly.

What drone comes with a DJI Dock?

There is no single universal “DJI Dock drone.” The documented aircraft depends on the Dock generation: Matrice 30 or 30T with the original Dock, Matrice 3D or 3TD with Dock 2, and Matrice 4D or 4TD with Dock 3. Package contents and purchasing arrangements can vary, so confirm the exact aircraft, Dock, firmware and service terms in the quotation from DJI or a DJI Enterprise dealer.

Where to confirm compatibility before purchase

Use DJI’s current Dock support documentation and FlightHub 2 feature matrix as the starting point, then ask a DJI Enterprise dealer or Dock systems integrator to validate the complete configuration. Request written confirmation of the aircraft model, Dock generation, firmware baseline, region, multi-dock design and support lifecycle. That step is especially important for the original Dock and for projects that depend on a specific network, relay or automated mission architecture.
