Craft a Rare fusion first if you have just unlocked the machine and already own the ingredients. WHL-EX (2 Mouse + 1 ARG) or ZRO-TEC (2 ID10 + 1 2BB) are the least risky introductions in the September 2026 recipe guide. If your workshop is developed and you are deliberately chasing late-game utility, save ingredients for AXL-POD, LOW-MO or LUG-G—but treat those as community preferences, not proven rankings. Fusion unlocks at Rebirth 3, consumes three droids permanently, and reported station cost is 400,000 Credits, so verify the live prompt before spending anything.
Which fusion should you make first?
Your best first craft depends on your workshop, not on a universal tier list.
- Newly unlocked Fusion: choose a Rare recipe whose three inputs are already available. WHL-EX and ZRO-TEC are the most accessible starting points in the September 8, 2026 guide because Mouse, ARG, ID10 and 2BB are commonly obtainable at the Sandcrawler.
- Established workshop: inspect all 17 documented recipes before committing. Keep any droid that appears in several recipes or is difficult to replace, especially Groundmech, KX and BDX Explorer.
- Late-game production or companion goals: community players frequently point to AXL-POD, LOW-MO and LUG-G. Those recommendations are player observations and can change with updates or with the objective you are optimizing.
A cheap Rare craft teaches the interface and consumes fewer strategically important ingredients; it is not automatically the most productive long-term choice. Because the machine destroys all three inputs, map your next one or two crafts before selecting Fuse.

Fusion unlocks at Rebirth 3
The September 8 guide places the Droid Fusion Machine behind Rebirth 3. A separate October 12, 2026 guide reports a 400,000-Credit construction cost. Both figures come from secondary guides rather than a current official specification. Open the machine in your present Fortnite island and read its prompt before you budget Credits; a patch, island revision or regional display could change the requirement.

Three droids are consumed
Every recipe uses exactly three droids. The October guide says the transaction cannot be reversed, so there is no buy-back or undo step if you select the wrong combination. Check each input’s name and quality in the confirmation panel, then make sure you are not using a droid reserved for another planned recipe.
Input quality controls output quality
The September guide states that the result’s quality follows the lowest-quality input. Three matching droids can also be fused for a higher-tier version. This means mixing a weak input into an otherwise valuable combination can lower the result you expected. Read the quality labels shown by the live machine rather than assuming that a recipe’s listed tier guarantees your result.

The official developer-community announcement explains that combinations can produce a higher-rarity droid, a new variation or a completely new droid. It also calls Fusion a permanent feature, using the announcement’s wording. The machine’s current preview is still the authority for what a particular combination will make.

Before crafting, compare this list with the machine’s own recipe display. The guides use slightly different labels, and an island update can add, remove or alter combinations.
Best first crafts after Fusion unlocks
WHL-EX: the simplest Mouse-and-ARG route
WHL-EX needs two Mouse droids and one ARG. It is a practical first experiment when those inputs are sitting in your workshop and you have no immediate use for them. Do not farm or spend a scarce ARG solely because the result is Rare; use it when the ingredients are genuinely surplus.

ZRO-TEC: an alternative low-risk Rare recipe
ZRO-TEC combines two ID10 droids with one 2BB. The September guide treats these inputs as accessible at the Sandcrawler, making this another sensible introduction. Choose ZRO-TEC instead of WHL-EX when ID10 and 2BB are plentiful and Mouse or ARG is reserved for another plan.

BTL-R: Rare, but not automatically cheap
BTL-R is also listed as Rare, yet it consumes BDX Explorer. That droid is needed for AXL-POD, one of the late-game combinations players often target. Unless BDX Explorer is easy for you to replace, BTL-R is a poor “first craft” despite its Rare label.
Ingredients worth protecting
Groundmech
Groundmech is a documented bottleneck. SCRP-R uses one, while QIK-BIT uses two. If you might pursue QIK-BIT, do not spend your only Groundmech on SCRP-R. Count how many you own and how many your intended route requires.
KX
KX appears in both RIV-3T and X-ONK, with X-ONK requiring two. A KX used casually can block either Mythic project. Keep at least the quantity required by your preferred plan before experimenting.
BDX Explorer
BDX Explorer is used by BTL-R and AXL-POD. Since AXL-POD is a frequent community late-game recommendation, reserve BDX Explorer if that output—or its reported companion benefit—is part of your goal.

Shared and repeated inputs
R7, B1 Battle, B1 Heavy, Gunrunner, Gonk, BB9, ID10 and Loadlifter also appear in more than one documented combination. The right reserve is personal: write down the recipe you want, subtract those required inputs from your inventory, and only fuse the remainder.

AXL-POD
AXL-POD requires Ric, BDX Explorer and R7. Community comments describe it as an attractive companion pick and one commenter reported a Stellar work-output figure of 1.50M. That number is an unverified player submission with no confirmed unit definition or controlled comparison. Treat AXL-POD as a goal-based choice, not an official performance winner, and protect BDX Explorer until you are ready.
LOW-MO
LOW-MO uses two A-LT droids and one Loadlifter. A community commenter reported 1.57M of Stellar work output, the highest of the three figures discussed in that thread. The figure is anecdotal and may reflect a particular patch, setup or interpretation of “work output.” Pick LOW-MO when production is your objective and the three inputs are surplus, not because the number is guaranteed.
LUG-G
LUG-G combines Loadlifter, ID10 and R5. Players also recommend it for late-game utility; the same commenter reported 1.43M of Stellar work output. As with the other reports, there is no independent validation or confirmed in-game unit context. LUG-G can be the better fit when you have its inputs but need to preserve A-LT or BDX Explorer for another route.

A safe crafting procedure
- Reach Rebirth 3. Confirm that the Fusion Machine is actually available in your current island version.
- Check the live construction prompt. If it requests Credits, verify the amount; the October guide’s reported figure is 400,000 Credits.
- Open the recipe preview. Select a result and compare the displayed inputs with your inventory. Do not rely on memory or an old screenshot.
- Plan competing recipes. Mark shared ingredients such as Groundmech, KX and BDX Explorer, then reserve the quantities needed for your preferred higher-tier craft.
- Inspect quality. Because the lowest-quality input can determine the output quality, replace any weak input if the preview does not meet your target.
- Confirm consumption. Read the final confirmation carefully: all three droids will be consumed and the operation is reported as irreversible.
- Record the result. Note the recipe, displayed quality and any bonus in your own workshop log. This helps you detect changes after an island update.
How to react when a recipe does not work
The machine shows a different result
Stop before confirming. Guide labels may use different capitalization, and the island may have changed since the September list. Trust the live preview and capture the exact in-game names for future planning.
Your expected tier is lower
Inspect every input’s quality. A lower-quality droid can pull the fusion result down. If the machine permits it, substitute a higher-quality version or postpone the craft until you can do so.
You are missing an ingredient
Do not replace a missing droid with a valuable substitute unless the machine explicitly previews the intended result. Farm or acquire the named input, then recheck the preview; undocumented combinations may produce a different variation.

Recipes, costs, output behavior and companion bonuses are volatile. The detailed recipe guide and community performance comments predate the October 12 guide, so revalidate your plan whenever the island receives an update.
What is established—and what is not
The consistent practical facts are that Fusion is tied to Rebirth 3, uses three consumed droids, and is described by secondary guides as irreversible. The 17-output list, 400,000-Credit construction figure and lowest-input-quality rule come from dated guides rather than a continuously maintained official table. The AXL-POD, LOW-MO and LUG-G performance figures come from a community commenter, not controlled testing. Use those sources to plan candidates, but let the current Fusion Machine decide what you can safely craft today.
The Bottom Line
Start with WHL-EX or ZRO-TEC only when their ingredients are surplus. Preserve Groundmech, KX and BDX Explorer for planned higher-tier recipes, and choose AXL-POD, LOW-MO or LUG-G later only when their inputs and your objective align. Always verify the live machine because Droid Tycoon recipes and bonuses can change.
