For a flexible early-campaign start, consider unlocking the Black Market, then add Medbay beds if injuries are sidelining operators. Change that order when your immediate bottleneck is roster size, operator development, or a plan to field astromechs. No single upgrade order is proven best: construction takes at least one Cycle, and missions advance the campaign to the next Cycle.
A practical starting order
The following sequence is a flexible baseline, not a tested optimum or an official developer ranking. Move an upgrade earlier when it solves a problem affecting your next deployments.
- Black Market: unlocks purchases of Weapon Mods and Utility Items. Choose it early if your squad needs more loadout options.
- Medbay: add beds when injured operators are preventing you from fielding your main squad.
- Crew Quarters: increase roster capacity if you need more substitutes for injuries or separate mission assignments.
- Crew Focus: consider it when operator development is the longer-term constraint.
- Combat Readiness: move it up if a stronger opening turn would help your upcoming fights.
- Networking, Lounge, Black Market Quality, and weapon upgrades: choose among these based on whether you need Influence, Bond progress, better market availability, or benefits for the weapons your squad uses.
This general sequence reflects the independent DTG Reviews Den guide, published and updated September 1, 2026. Its author explicitly recommends adapting the order to your current constraint; it is not a controlled comparison of upgrade performance.
Choose by your current bottleneck
Your squad needs equipment options
Unlocking the Black Market opens purchases of Weapon Mods and Utility Items. Check its offerings each Cycle and buy items that suit the operators you actually deploy. Black Market Quality and inventory upgrades affect availability, so treat them as follow-up choices rather than substitutes for the initial access unlock.

Injuries are keeping operators out of action
Medbay bed upgrades increase how many operators can recover from injuries at the same time. The listed capacity reaches four simultaneous beds at the highest referenced bed rank. This is a treatment-throughput improvement, not evidence that Medbay prevents injuries.
You do not have enough substitutes
Crew Quarters upgrades raise the maximum roster size. Prioritize them if injuries or competing mission assignments leave you short of usable operators. The available references do not establish a universal roster target.

You intend to use astromechs
Droid Repair Bay unlocks droid recruitment and recovery for injured droids. It makes sense when droids will be part of your regular rotation; otherwise, another upgrade that addresses a current squad constraint may be more useful.

Combat Readiness ranks grant one, two, or three Advantage at the start of combat, according to the in-game descriptions. StarWars.com explains that powerful special actions spend Advantage. Its value therefore depends on whether your squad can turn the starting points into useful actions in the fights ahead.
Rank #3
- Command an elite squad through a gritty and authentic Star Wars story set in the twilight of the Clone Wars. Step into the role of Hawks, a former Republic officer leading Zero Company against an emerging threat that could consume the galaxy.
Your constraint is development, Bonds, or Influence
Crew Focus, Lounge, and Networking address different longer-term priorities. The independent guide includes them in its flexible early sequence, but the useful choice depends on the operators you are developing, whether bench Bond progress matters to you, and whether Influence is limiting your campaign plans. Weapon upgrades likewise make most sense when they benefit weapons your deployed squad actually carries.
Compare the upgrade decision, not just the upgrade name
| Need | Relevant upgrade | Question to ask |
|---|---|---|
| Equipment access | Black Market | Would purchasable mods or utility items improve the squad you plan to field? |
| Recovery capacity | Medbay beds | Are injuries blocking deployments, and how many operators need treatment at once? |
| Roster flexibility | Crew Quarters | Is your available roster too small to cover injuries and mission needs? |
| Droid support | Droid Repair Bay | Will astromechs be part of your regular rotation? |
| Starting combat resources | Combat Readiness | Can your squad make useful use of extra starting Advantage? |
| Long-term progress | Crew Focus, Lounge, or Networking | Is operator development, Bond progress, or Influence the constraint you need to address? |
| Construction timing | Build Slots and Cycle schedule | Can you start this now without sacrificing a more urgent mission or Operation opportunity? |
Account for construction and the Cycle
Each construction project takes at least one Cycle and requires an available Build Slot. Additional slots let you construct multiple upgrades concurrently. If a consequential upgrade has a free slot, starting it before the next deployment can avoid leaving construction time unused; weigh that against what you need to accomplish before the Cycle changes.

The official StarWars.com getting-started guide says missions advance the campaign to the next Cycle and advises completing Den activities before deploying. The Holotable shows the tactical missions and Operations available in the current Cycle, and not every opportunity can be taken.
Operations are non-combat assignments that require Intel and may reward items, Credits, or Influence; some can strengthen or weaken Bonds. Because missions and Operations compete for your attention, decide what matters this Cycle before committing to a deployment. Do useful Den tasks and start a relevant upgrade when you have capacity, then deploy when the mission choice is worth advancing the Cycle.

How precise are the upgrade details?
The Zero Company Databank is an unofficial reference that says its data comes from game build 25513890. Its facility descriptions reproduce in-game upgrade effects, including additional Utility Item or Weapon Mod slots, starting Advantage, roster capacity, treatment capacity, and droid recruitment and recovery. Some entries are incomplete or redacted, so do not infer missing values, costs, prerequisites, or unlock timing from them.
For broader context, StarWars.com describes Zero Company as a single-player, turn-based tactics game set during the Clone Wars. The Den is a decommissioned cargo freighter permanently docked at the Ring of Kafrene. The official guide lists PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, with Standard, Deluxe, and Collector’s Editions.
