There is no single compact stroller that is guaranteed to fit every airline’s cabin rules. Compare the folded dimensions with your carrier’s current policy, then choose based on your child’s age, how you will carry it, and whether it also works for everyday outings. Manufacturer specifications point to several useful options, but the models and regional versions are not directly interchangeable.
Compare the compact strollers by model
| Model | Weight and folded size | Child suitability | Fold, carry and storage details | Travel notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Joolz Aer+ | Joolz lists 13.2 lb and a folded size of 21 × 17.7 × 8.5 in. | Listed for ages 6 months to 4 years, with a maximum stroller capacity of 50 lb. The seat alone is not specified for newborn use; Joolz offers a cot option. | A travel pouch is listed in the box. | Joolz advises that luggage restrictions differ by airline and recommends contacting the carrier if unsure. Joolz Aer+ specifications. |
| Joolz Aer² | Joolz lists 14.3 lb and folded dimensions of 17.3 × 20.8 × 9.2 in. | A foldable cot accessory is available for newborn use. | The manufacturer describes a one-hand, one-second fold. | Joolz calls it IATA compliant and says it fits overhead cabins; acceptance and available space remain subject to the airline. Joolz Aer² specifications. |
| UPPAbaby Minu V3 | The product page describes the stroller as lightweight but does not expose a weight or folded dimensions in the reviewed specification text. | UPPAbaby describes from-birth use with carriage mode or specified compatible infant-seat adapters. Check compatibility for the exact car-seat model and region. | The page lists an integrated carry strap and a 20 lb basket capacity. | UPPAbaby calls the fold overhead-friendly and IATA-compatible; those are manufacturer claims, not a guarantee for every flight. UPPAbaby Minu V3 details. |
| UPPAbaby Minu (older model) | The older product page lists a weight just under 17 lb. | The seat capacity is listed as 50 lb. | A travel bag is listed as an accessory. | This is a separate, older model page. Do not assume its specifications or accessories apply to the Minu V3. Older UPPAbaby Minu details. |
| Bugaboo Butterfly (original model) | Bugaboo’s Canadian product page lists 7.3 kg. | Listed for ages 6 months to 4 years. The seat reclines to 145 degrees. | The basket capacity is listed as 17.64 lb. A bumper bar is sold separately. | The Canadian page describes an IATA-compatible compact fold, says the original model is no longer available there, and points to Butterfly 2. Check the current local version and availability. Bugaboo Butterfly Canadian product page. |
These figures do not support a complete weight ranking: the Minu V3 page’s reviewed text does not state a weight, and the Butterfly figure is from a Canadian-market page in kilograms. Treat each specification as applying to the named version and source market.
How to choose for air travel
Check dimensions against your airline’s policy
Before booking or packing, compare the stroller’s folded length, width and height with your airline’s current rules. Cabin allowance can vary by carrier and available cabin space; a manufacturer’s “overhead-friendly,” “IATA-compatible” or similar description is not a universal boarding guarantee. Joolz puts the point plainly: “Luggage restrictions differ per airline.” If the policy is unclear, ask the carrier whether you can bring the stroller into the cabin or must gate-check or check it.

Decide whether cabin carry is essential
If you plan to carry the stroller through the airport, consider its folded shape as well as weight, and look for a built-in strap, handle or included pouch. If you expect to gate-check it, a compact fold may still help with handling and storage, but check how the airline accepts strollers and whether you want a protective travel bag.

Check everyday features and total travel setup
- Fold and carry: Compare one-hand operation, folded dimensions, whether the stroller stands when folded, and the presence of an integrated strap or handle. The Aer² is described as folding one-handed in one second; the Minu V3 page lists an integrated carry strap.
- Storage: Basket limits differ: UPPAbaby lists 20 lb for the Minu V3 and Bugaboo lists 17.64 lb for the original Butterfly on its Canadian page. Check the actual basket access and the load limit for the precise model.
- Seat and comfort: The Butterfly page lists recline to 145 degrees. Check the seat’s recline, leg support and canopy on the current product specification for any model you are considering.
- Accessories: Joolz lists a travel pouch in the Aer+ box. UPPAbaby lists a Minu travel bag accessory and model-specific car-seat adapters. Bugaboo lists the Butterfly bumper bar as separately sold. Verify what is included, what costs extra, and whether an accessory fits the exact model generation.
- Home and vehicle storage: Measure the space where the folded stroller will live, including a car trunk or closet. A stroller can be compact on paper but still awkward for the opening or storage area you use.
Which option makes sense for your trip?
- For a sitting child and a specified folded size: The Aer+ has a listed weight and dimensions, plus an included travel pouch; its seat is not specified for newborn use.
- For a one-hand fold and cot option: The Aer² has a distinct size and weight from the Aer+, and Joolz offers a foldable cot accessory. Check the airline’s rules rather than relying on the overhead-cabin claim alone.
- For a from-birth configuration: The Minu V3 page describes carriage mode and specified infant-seat adapters. Verify the setup and adapter compatibility for your child’s seat.
- For a recline figure and Canadian-market reference: Bugaboo lists the original Butterfly’s recline and other specifications on its Canadian page, which also points buyers to Butterfly 2. Confirm local availability and the current model before purchase.
