After a major ColorOS update, review the settings that affect app permissions, notifications, and battery behavior—but do not assume the update reset them. ColorOS menus and optional features vary by version, phone model, and region. If a path below does not match your phone, search Settings for the named option.
1. Find your ColorOS version and review app permissions
Start with the Permission manager, then check whether each app still has only the access it needs. OPPO documents different paths across ColorOS releases, so use the closest match for your phone:
- ColorOS 15 to 16 and above: Settings > Security & privacy > Privacy controls > Permission manager, according to OPPO Support UK.
- ColorOS 14 to 16: Settings > Security and Privacy > Privacy / Privacy Control > Permission manager, according to OPPO Support France.
- ColorOS 11 to 13: Privacy > Permission > Permission manager, as listed in OPPO’s versioned guidance.
The route and labels can differ even between nearby releases. Search Settings for “Permission manager” if you cannot find it; OPPO also cautions that settings and screen images may vary by device.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteCheck sensitive access app by app
In the manager, review camera, microphone, location, photos and videos, and other sensitive permissions. For each app, choose the narrowest access that still supports what you use it for: deny access when it is not needed, allow it only while using the app where available, or choose a limited-access option.

OPPO’s ColorOS 14 tips describe “Ask every time” for photos and videos, microphone, camera, and location where that choice is available. It is not a universal option on every phone or for every permission.
2. Check app notifications and background behavior if something changed
If an important app has stopped notifying you or seems to behave differently in the background, inspect its app settings rather than changing restrictions across the phone. OPPO says App management can be used for permissions, battery usage, and notification management in its ColorOS 14 tips.

Prioritize apps where a missed alert or interrupted background task matters, such as messaging, navigation, health, or work apps. Review notification permissions and battery behavior for the affected app, then test it. OPPO’s documentation does not establish that a major update necessarily resets these controls, so this is a targeted troubleshooting check—not a required reset-repair step.

3. Review battery features before adding restrictions
Open Settings > Battery to see which options your phone provides. OPPO points to this area for features such as Power saving mode and Smart charging, but labels and availability can vary by model and software version.

Smart charging
OPPO’s ColorOS 14 rollout announcement describes Smart Charging as an AI algorithm that can adjust charging current according to phone usage status to help prevent unnecessary battery wear. That description is specific to the ColorOS 14 announcement; it does not establish identical availability or behavior on every device. If the option appears, read its on-screen explanation before enabling it.
Power saving and app battery controls
Battery restrictions can affect an app’s background activity. Before limiting an app, consider whether it needs timely alerts, location updates, or ongoing work. Avoid applying broad restrictions reflexively; change the affected app’s setting only when you have a reason and check whether the change solves the problem.

4. Look for privacy tools and optional features on your device
A major update may introduce controls worth exploring, but a feature described for ColorOS is not necessarily present on every phone. Treat these as examples to look for—not a universal checklist of changes to make.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →- Auto Pixelate: OPPO describes this as a one-tap way to blur sensitive names and avatars in screenshots. It may be useful if you share screenshots and want to conceal those details; check your phone’s available screenshot or privacy tools.
- Picture Keeper: OPPO’s ColorOS 14 rollout announcement describes this as a way to control access to selected photos and videos. If available, review whether its sharing permissions suit your needs.
- ColorOS 16 features: OPPO’s ColorOS 16 product page and India newsroom story published June 22, 2026 describe features including Mind Space, OLock, Private Cloud Computing, Motion Photos, video wallpapers, and Flux Home Screen. The newsroom story says Mind Space capture can use a three-finger gesture or Snap Key on the Find X9 Series and newly launched Reno16 series in its article context. These descriptions do not establish availability on other models or in every region.
Enable or configure a feature only if it is available on your phone and useful to you. Check the feature’s own description and privacy implications before relying on it.

Why the menu on your phone may not match
OPPO’s support pages document multiple permission paths across ColorOS generations, and its guidance warns that screens may differ by phone. Software version, device model, and region all affect which labels and features appear. Use the paths here as starting points, not a universal walkthrough; Settings search is the quickest fallback when a label or menu location differs.
