Start with reversible personalization: set the lock-screen clock and home-screen layout to suit you. Try full-screen Always-On Display (AOD) only if your model offers it and you accept its five-second display limit. Treat AI editing and connected-device tools as optional until you confirm they are available on your particular phone, region and software build.
Check your phone before changing anything
ColorOS 16 does not expose exactly the same controls on every OPPO phone. The model, market, carrier software, update build and staged rollout can change both availability and menu names. Check the installed version and model first so that you do not spend time looking for a feature your device does not support.
- Open Settings.
- Use the settings search field for About device, then open that page.
- Record the ColorOS version and the exact model name. If the version is below ColorOS 16, update through the phone’s normal software-update screen before following a ColorOS 16 path.
- Restart after a major update, then search for the setting by name if the labels in this guide do not match your screen.
OPPO’s support documentation specifically describes the full-screen AOD feature for ColorOS 16 and above, while also warning that paths can differ by device. The same caution applies to Flux themes, icon resizing, AI tools and connected-device features.

Visual settings are the safest starting point because they are reversible, do not require new permissions and let you test whether a change improves daily use. Make one adjustment at a time, use the phone for a day, and keep the default if the change adds clutter or slows down access to familiar controls.

Choose a different lock-screen clock
ColorOS 16 places clock choices inside Flux Themes. On devices that expose the documented controls, use this path:
- Open Settings > Home screen, Lock Screen & style > All Flux Themes.
- Select the card marked In use.
- Tap the clock in the editing interface.
- Pick the clock style that remains readable against your wallpaper, then save or apply the edit shown on your phone.
Prefer a high-contrast clock if you check the time outdoors or from an angle. A decorative style may look better on a still wallpaper but can be harder to read over a bright photograph. If the clock editor is absent, search Settings for “clock” or “Flux Themes”; a different model or build may provide fewer editing controls.
Resize icons and folders on the home screen
OPPO’s Flux Home Screen feature allows supported phones to resize an individual app icon or folder into different shapes. The surrounding layout adapts rather than forcing you to rebuild the entire page.

- Long-press an app icon or folder.
- Choose the resize or shape control displayed by the contextual menu.
- Select a size or shape, then tap outside the menu to commit it.
Use a larger icon for an app you open repeatedly or for accessibility. Keep rarely used apps smaller or grouped so the first page stays uncluttered. Resizing changes appearance and spacing; it does not change the app’s permissions, notifications or storage use.

Why personalization comes before performance tweaks
Clock, wallpaper, icon and folder changes are low-risk experiments. They do not depend on a specific battery claim, and you can undo them without resetting the phone. They also reveal whether your build includes Flux controls, which helps you distinguish a missing feature from an incorrect menu path.
Try full-screen Always-On Display only when its behavior suits you
Full-screen AOD is an optional visual mode, not an always-visible dashboard. OPPO’s support instructions say the mode is available on ColorOS 16 and above, but it turns off five seconds after it appears and does not support all-day display. Tapping the screen or raising a hand wakes the phone after it disappears.
Enable it
The support path is written as Settings > Home Screen, Lock Screen, & style > All Flux Themes > Clock. Capitalization and punctuation can vary by model.

- Open Settings, then open Home Screen, Lock Screen, & style.
- Tap All Flux Themes, followed by Clock.
- Select a clock theme.
- Swipe left to the leftmost AOD editing screen.
- Choose Full-screen, preview it, and tap Apply.
After applying it, lock the phone and wait for the AOD to appear. Observe the five-second timeout before deciding whether it is useful. It is best for a brief glance when the phone is already nearby, not for continuously displaying information across a desk.

Decide whether it belongs in your routine
- Choose it if you like a large visual animation or a quick glance when you wake the display with a tap or hand movement.
- Skip it if you expect a persistent clock, need an always-visible reference during meetings, or find the animation distracting.
- Test it at night as well as during the day; a bright full-screen effect may not fit your bedroom or accessibility preferences.
Because the documented mode is not an all-day display, changing other AOD artwork cannot remove that five-second limit. If you need a persistent clock, use the ordinary lock screen instead.
If the Full-screen option is missing
Confirm that the phone reports ColorOS 16 or later, install any pending system update, and repeat the path from the main Settings app rather than from a third-party theme shortcut. If the option still does not appear, the model, region or current build may not include it. Do not install an unofficial theme package to force the control; keep the supported AOD mode or leave AOD disabled.
Explore AI tools only after checking what your phone actually includes
OPPO’s ColorOS 16 materials describe AI Portrait Glow for improving poorly lit portraits and other editing functions. The global product page also presents additional AI and connectivity features. These are capabilities to evaluate when you have a specific use for them, not a checklist that every owner must enable.
Check availability in the built-in apps
- Open the stock Photos or Gallery app and edit a photo taken in dim light.
- Look for an AI or enhancement section in the editor. The exact label can vary by model and software build.
- Preview the result at 100 percent before saving. Check faces, hair, text and background edges for unwanted smoothing or artifacts.
- Keep the original file when the editor offers a “save as” or duplicate option, so you can compare the result later.
OPPO cautions that AI features shown on its product page may not be included in the software version at launch. Availability can also depend on country, language, account status, network access and rollout timing. A missing AI button is therefore not proof that the phone is faulty.

Use connected-device controls selectively
Cross-device features can be useful if you already own compatible equipment and understand what data or permissions the connection requires. Open the relevant connection or sharing panel, read the permission request, and enable only the device relationships you intend to use. If you do not transfer files, share a clipboard or control another device, leaving those options at their defaults avoids extra prompts and background activity.
Keep defaults that already solve your problem
There is no universally necessary ColorOS 16 change. A phone that is comfortable to read, easy to unlock and reliable through the day may need no adjustment beyond a personal clock or icon layout. Avoid changing several system behaviors at once: when notifications, battery life or touch response later feel different, you will not know which setting caused it.
- Keep the standard lock screen if it is readable and launches your usual shortcuts quickly.
- Leave AOD off if the five-second full-screen behavior has no practical benefit.
- Do not enable AI or device-linking features merely because they are advertised; use them when a real task justifies the permission and processing.
- Take a screenshot of an existing layout before experimenting so you can restore it manually.
Compare the optional changes before choosing

Put OPPO’s performance figures in context
OPPO’s 2025 global ColorOS 16 product page publishes several performance figures. They are vendor-reported results tied to footnoted tests, not independent measurements of every ColorOS 16 phone. The available product-page figures are:

These numbers should not determine whether you enable a clock, AOD or AI editor. Those choices are preference- and availability-driven. If you are troubleshooting heat, lag or battery drain, measure your own phone before and after one change instead of assuming a product-page percentage applies to it.

Troubleshoot a change without resetting the phone
A menu path does not match
Use Settings search for the feature name, check the installed ColorOS version and verify the model’s support page. OPPO notes that labels and paths can differ. A missing menu after an update may reflect a staged rollout or regional configuration rather than an error in your steps.
The AOD appears briefly, then vanishes
That is the documented full-screen behavior: the display turns off after five seconds. Tap the screen or raise your hand to wake the phone. If you need a continuously visible clock, use the lock screen or a supported standard AOD design instead of trying to extend the full-screen timer.
An AI feature is unavailable
Check for system and app updates, confirm the phone’s language and region, and try the built-in editor on a locally stored image. If the control remains absent, your software version or model may not include it yet. Keep using the standard editor; do not treat an advertised feature as a requirement.
You dislike the result
Return to the same Flux Themes or home-screen editor, select the previous clock or size, and apply it. For photos, reopen the untouched original rather than repeatedly editing a compressed copy. For connected-device tools, remove the pairing or revoke the permission from the relevant Settings page.
A practical first-day sequence
- Record the model and ColorOS version.
- Set the lock-screen clock and test readability in bright and dim conditions.
- Resize one home-screen icon or folder only if the default target is difficult to hit.
- Try full-screen AOD for a few minutes and verify its five-second timeout.
- Open the photo editor to see whether the AI tools you actually want are present.
- Leave connected-device features disabled until you have a compatible device and a specific workflow.
- Keep the settings that reduce friction; revert anything that adds distraction, prompts or uncertainty.
This order separates harmless visual personalization from features whose availability and behavior depend more heavily on the phone, software build and region.
