There is no verified hands-on test behind this comparison, so it would be misleading to call any model the best one “tested.” For a clip-on open-ear shortlist, consider the Shokz OpenDots ONE, Soundcore AeroClip, Bose Ultra Open Earbuds, HUAWEI FreeClip 2, and EarFun Clip 2—but treat them as candidates, not a proven ranking. The right choice depends on fit, activity, and the specifications you need.
What clip-on open-ear earbuds do—and do not—do
Clip-on open-ear earbuds sit on or around the outer ear rather than sealing the ear canal. Bose describes its Ultra Open design as cuff-shaped, with speakers positioned a short distance from the canal so environmental sounds remain audible. That is different from noise isolation: these earbuds do not block surrounding sound in the way sealed in-ear models can.
Staying aware of nearby sounds may suit everyday listening, but it also means your audio competes with your surroundings. Open-ear construction alone does not establish sound quality, how much sound leaks to people nearby, or whether a particular fit will feel comfortable.

| Model | What the available information supports | What to check before choosing |
|---|---|---|
| Shokz OpenDots ONE | Shokz describes a clip-on silhouette and open-ear architecture on its product page. That is manufacturer positioning, not an independent performance finding. | Try the fit with your usual movement and, if you cycle, check that the earbuds do not interfere with your helmet straps. TechRadar flags possible strap interference. |
| Soundcore AeroClip | Soundcore’s EU product page lists Bluetooth 5.4, 12 mm drivers, IPX4, multipoint, four microphones, 5.9 g per earbud, and 8 hours per charge or 32 hours including the case. Its battery figures come from laboratory testing at 50% volume; actual playback varies with use and conditions. | Verify the specifications for the region where you are buying. The US page also claims the adaptive open-ring design withstands 20,000 bends; that is a Soundcore claim, not independent durability testing. |
| Bose Ultra Open Earbuds | Bose describes a cuff-shaped design that leaves the listener open to environmental sounds. Bose announced the product on February 15, 2024. | Assess fit, comfort, controls, calls, and battery needs for yourself; the cited product information does not provide a comparative test on those points. |
| HUAWEI FreeClip 2 | What Hi-Fi reports 5.1 g per earbud and a design 11% smaller than the first generation. Comfort improvements are attributed to Huawei’s claims, not established for every wearer. | Check local availability and try the fit if possible. A lighter or smaller specification does not guarantee personal comfort. |
| EarFun Clip 2 | SoundGuys lists it as a budget option, and current editorial coverage positions it as a lower-priced clip-style choice. | Prices change by region and date; confirm the current price and specifications rather than relying on an older comparison listing. |
How to choose for your ears and your routine
Start with fit, not the spec sheet
Clip-on shapes contact the outer ear differently, and a listed weight cannot tell you where pressure will fall or whether an earbud will stay put on your ear. If possible, try the model for more than a brief listen and test it while walking or doing the movements you expect to make. Check for pressure, shifting, and comfort over time.
Account for helmets, glasses, and headwear
If you ride, wear glasses, or use hats or headbands, test the combination you actually use. TechRadar specifically notes potential helmet-strap interference with Shokz OpenDots ONE; that is a reason to check your own helmet fit, not proof that every cyclist will have a problem.

- AI Clear Calls: Advanced AI filters background noise for crystal-clear calls during outdoor running, gym workouts, or commutes. Perfect for work calls on the go.

Decide whether open listening suits the setting
Because the ear canal is not sealed, you may hear surrounding sounds, and others may hear some of your audio. The cited material does not establish comparative leakage or isolation results for these models. If privacy or blocking noise matters, do not assume an open-ear design will provide either.

Read battery, water-resistance, and durability claims carefully
Soundcore’s EU AeroClip page lists IPX4 and gives 8 hours per charge and 32 hours with the case. Soundcore says its battery test used 50% volume in its laboratory and warns that actual playback varies with volume, audio source, interference, and usage. Treat those numbers as manufacturer figures under stated conditions, not a guarantee of your daily runtime.

Soundcore’s US page says the AeroClip’s adaptive open-ring design “endures 20,000 bends.” This is a manufacturer durability claim; the cited information does not establish independent testing or what real-world wear will look like. For other models, confirm the exact regional specification if water resistance or a particular battery runtime is essential—the comparison information here does not provide a consistent set of figures across all five.
What a reliable recommendation would require
A genuine “best tested” ranking needs documented, comparable evaluation. For each model, that would mean checking secure fit during movement; pressure and comfort over time; sound at ordinary listening levels; leakage; call quality; per-charge and case-inclusive battery life; water resistance; controls and multipoint; case size; and compatibility with glasses, hats, or helmets. Product-page specifications can answer only some of those questions. Without documented hands-on results for the models being compared, naming a winner would overstate the evidence.
