Some Fujifilm models—not Leica—were the standout in MPB’s three-year US used-price analysis. MPB found an almost 10% net increase for the selected Fujifilm models it tracked from December 2021 to December 2024. That is a result for a limited group of products and period, not proof that every Fujifilm camera or complete kit outperforms Leica.
What the brand comparison actually shows
MPB’s 2024 analysis tracked a selected top-100 group of products in its US used-price index. Within that group, selected Fujifilm models rose almost 10% net over the three-year period. The company linked some of that strength to the launch and demand around the Fujifilm X100VI.
The result is notable because the selected DSLR and mirrorless models in the same index moved in the opposite direction. It also shows why broad brand labels can obscure important differences: a sought-after premium compact may behave differently from a typical interchangeable-lens body and lens combination.
MPB did not include Leica in its reported top-four brand trend comparison. Its analysis therefore cannot establish that Fujifilm beat Leica, or rank those two brands against each other on a like-for-like basis.

How the camera categories moved in MPB’s US index
The figures below are movements in selected products in MPB’s US index between December 2021 and December 2024, as reported in its 2024 analysis. They are not guaranteed returns for an individual camera.
| Selected product group | Reported net change |
|---|---|
| Fujifilm models | Almost 10% increase |
| Premium compact cameras | Nearly 9% increase |
| Mirrorless models | Around 15% decrease |
| DSLR models | About 38% decrease |
These categories are not interchangeable comparisons: a premium compact can also be part of a brand’s model sample, and the table does not give a return for a typical complete kit. The figures describe the selected products and period covered by the index, not every camera in each category.
What a separate UK snapshot says about Leica and Fujifilm
UsedLens’ Q3 2026 UK report offers a different kind of comparison. For models up to three years old, it compared typical retailer asking prices with new prices. These percentages reflect limited model samples and listed prices, not completed sales or sellers’ net proceeds.

- A first for X Series cameras, FUJIFILM X-E5 features a customizable Film Simulation dial. Neatly placed under the aluminum top-plate with a circular window providing an easy view of the active mode, the dial provides fast access to Fujifilm’s unique Film Simulation modes that deliver stunning results straight out of camera. Providing up to seven stops of benefit at the center of the frame and six stops at the edges, the IBIS system features a new algorithm and upgraded gyro sensor to deliver an improved performance that helps keep crucial images free from camera shake.
- Image quality is assured with FUJIFILM X-E5 thanks to the latest 40.2-megapixel X-Trans 5 HR sensor and X-Processor 5 imaging engine. This combination brings additional functionality, including a lower base ISO of 125 and deep learning AI-powered subject detection AF across a broader range of subjects. The higher resolution also unlocks a two-step digital teleconverter feature, which crops into the sensor to provide a 1.4x or 2x zoom, giving further in camera flexibility.
| Brand | Models in sample | Typical asking price as share of new price |
|---|---|---|
| Canon | 8 | 85% |
| Leica | 6 | 82% |
| Sony | 13 | 78% |
| Fujifilm | 10 | 78% |
| Nikon | 5 | 77% |
| Panasonic | 6 | 74% |
In this UK asking-price snapshot, Leica’s sampled recent models were listed at a higher share of new prices than Fujifilm’s. That does not contradict MPB’s result: the reports cover different geographies, time periods, product samples, and price measures. One tracks changes in selected US index prices over time; the other compares UK listings with new prices for recent models.
Why the value of a camera kit can change quickly
Exact model and category
A brand-level average cannot tell you what your specific body, lens, or complete kit will fetch. A premium compact with unusual demand may follow a different path from a DSLR or a mainstream mirrorless body. The MPB results illustrate that difference, but do not provide an appraisal for any particular owner.
Launches, successors, and supply
New-product announcements can shift both buyer interest and the number of older models offered for sale. UsedLens reported that the Sony RX10 IV’s typical UK asking price was down 24.8% after the RX10 V announcement, compared with a 3.1% market decline over the same period. Its tracked RX10 IV listings increased from 31 to 277. This is one model example based on asking prices; it does not establish that every successor announcement has the same effect.

Condition and what is included
A camera body alone is not the same item as a kit with lenses and accessories. Condition, included equipment, and the local pool of buyers all affect how a listing compares with another one. A brand-level statistic cannot account for those details.

An asking price is a seller’s advertised amount, not evidence that a buyer paid that price. An index of used-price movements, a retailer’s current listings, a completed transaction, and the amount an owner receives after any selling costs answer different questions. Use comparable sold transactions when available, and distinguish gross sale price from your net proceeds.
How MPB’s index works—and what it can tell you
MPB says its index follows a fixed group of 100 popular products and uses a weighted average intended to focus on price movement while accounting for product mix. Weights are based on quantities traded in the most recently completed financial half-year. The index draws on MPB Re.Value data, updates daily, and refreshes its selected models and weights every six months. Its stated coverage includes the US, EU, and UK.

The 2024 Fujifilm result discussed here is specifically from MPB’s US analysis of the December 2021–December 2024 window. A movement in that index is not a prediction, a promised resale return, or a calculation of the value of your whole kit.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How to estimate your own camera kit’s resale value
- Identify the exact items. Record each body and lens model, mount, accessories, and whether you are valuing items separately or as a bundle.
- Match the condition. Compare items with similar wear and working condition; disclose faults and missing accessories rather than treating a clean example as equivalent.
- Use your local market. Look for comparable prices in the country where you plan to sell. Do not treat a UK asking-price snapshot as a US completed-sale estimate, or vice versa.
- Separate asking prices from sale evidence. Prefer recent completed transactions for an estimate of what buyers actually paid. If you only have listings, regard them as asking prices rather than achieved values.
- Account for selling costs. Estimate what you will retain after any applicable fees, shipping, or other costs; the gross listed or sold price is not necessarily your net proceeds.
The available brand-level figures do not supply a model-specific appraisal. For that, you need current comparable sales or listings for the same model and condition, plus a realistic assessment of the included lenses and other items.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsDoes Leica hold its value better than Fujifilm?
The available figures do not settle that question across matched Leica and Fujifilm cameras, lenses, condition grades, and ownership periods. MPB’s selected Fujifilm models rose almost 10% in its US index window, while its reported trend comparison did not rank Leica. UsedLens’ UK snapshot put recent Leica models’ typical asking prices at 82% of new and Fujifilm’s at 78%, but those were limited samples of listings rather than completed transactions.
The defensible conclusion is narrower: some Fujifilm models performed strongly in MPB’s measured period, while Leica’s sampled recent UK listings were also high relative to new prices. Neither figure determines what an individual kit will sell for.
