The audio output on a Sharp AQUOS TV can be on the rear or side connection panel, but its location and type depend on the exact model. Look for labels such as DIGITAL AUDIO OUT or AUDIO OUT, a headphone symbol, or an HDMI port marked ARC. Match the label to the connection diagram in your TV’s operation manual before plugging in equipment.
Why the audio output varies by AQUOS model
“Audio output” may mean an optical digital audio port, an audio/headphone jack, or HDMI ARC. These are different connections, and not every AQUOS model has all of them. Sharp’s manuals document different arrangements for different model families, so there is no single location or port type that applies to every AQUOS TV.
For example, Sharp’s PN-UH601/PN-UH701 operation manual describes both a DIGITAL AUDIO OUT port and an AUDIO OUT terminal. Sharp’s LC-70/60LE847U and LC-70/60LE745U manual describes HDMI ARC on HDMI IN 1. These examples apply to those models, not automatically to other AQUOS televisions.

How to find the right port on your TV
- Identify the full model number. Check the label on the television or its on-screen identification information. Use the complete model number to find the matching operation manual; Sharp’s manuals specify the model families they cover.
- Inspect the rear and side connection panels. Read the printed labels rather than relying on a port’s shape. The output may be on either panel, depending on the model.
- Check the manual’s connection diagram. Find the diagram for your exact model and compare its labels with the ports on the TV.
- Choose the output based on what you are connecting. For headphones, check for a headphone symbol or an AUDIO OUT terminal that the manual identifies for headphone use. For an optical audio system, look for DIGITAL AUDIO OUT. For HDMI ARC, look for ARC beside the designated HDMI input.
Which audio connection should you use?

Settings to check after connecting audio equipment
PN-UH601/PN-UH701: optical and AUDIO OUT settings
On these models, Sharp describes PCM for equipment that does not support Dolby Digital and Bitstream for an audio system that supports Dolby Digital. Choose the setting to match the receiving equipment and program signal; do not assume the same menu options or behavior apply to other AQUOS families.

These models also offer output-selection behavior for the shared AUDIO OUT terminal. With a cable inserted, selecting Headphone mutes the TV speakers. Selecting Audio out sends a constant, non-adjustable signal through AUDIO OUT, so adjust levels on the receiving equipment as appropriate.
LC-70/60LE847U and LC-70/60LE745U: ARC
Sharp specifies an ARC-compatible amplifier, the ARC-compatible HDMI terminal (HDMI IN 1), and an ARC-compatible cable for ARC on these models. The menu setting can be Auto or Off. Consult the manual for the TV and audio system to confirm their specific ARC setup.

If the TV does not send audio
- No sound over HDMI: Confirm that both devices support ARC and that the cable is connected to the designated ARC port on each device. Check the TV’s ARC or audio-output setting.
- ARC still fails on a model with the documented optical fallback: Sharp instructs owners of LC-70/60LE847U and LC-70/60LE745U models to connect an optical-fiber cable and set Audio Return Channel to Off.
- No sound from a headphone or AUDIO OUT connection: Check the model’s output-selection setting. On PN-UH601/PN-UH701, Headphone mutes the TV speakers, while Audio out produces a constant signal.
- Unsure which port to use: Verify the full TV model number, check its operation manual’s connection diagram, and match the TV’s output to the input available on the audio equipment.
Sharp’s soundbar manual likewise advises checking the TV manual to identify which terminal supports ARC. It shows a headphone-terminal connection as one possible route for a TV without ARC, but actual compatibility depends on the specific TV and soundbar.
