The best foldable apps do more than enlarge a phone interface. They use the inner display for a second pane, preserve your place when you unfold, adapt to portrait or landscape, or turn the partly open hinge into a useful tabletop stand.
Google has documented large-screen designs for Google Calendar, YouTube Music, Calm, Candy Crush Soda Saga, Peloton, SideChef, LINE, Deezer, Google Weather and Google Keep. On Galaxy Z Fold models, Samsung’s Multi view and Multi window tools add device-level split-screen and pop-up working. Treat these as documented examples rather than a guarantee for every current app version, country, Android release or foldable model.
What makes an app good on a foldable inner screen?
A foldable’s open display can be nearly tablet-sized, but a phone app does not automatically become tablet-quality when it is stretched across it. Android defines an adaptive app as one that changes its layout for the available window rather than merely enlarging controls. The useful changes depend on how you hold the device: folded or unfolded, portrait or landscape, and partly open in tabletop or book posture.

- Useful panes: The extra width reveals related information, such as a list beside the selected item, instead of leaving a large empty margin.
- Continuity: Folding or unfolding keeps your content, scroll position and current task instead of restarting the screen.
- Posture awareness: The interface remains usable when the hinge is partly open, in landscape or in a book-like two-page position.
- Fold-safe controls: Buttons, text and media controls do not land under the hinge or become awkwardly distant at the edges.
- Task-focused multitasking: The app can work beside another app, a timer or a reference pane without forcing constant app switching.
Android 12 and later run all apps in multi-window mode on large screens by default. That is a compatibility baseline, not proof of a polished foldable layout: the app still controls its own resizing, state restoration and pane design.

- 【Strong Adsorption】The inspiration of the silicone phone suction case comes from the adhesive force of the octopus. Each suction cup phone mount is 3.15 inches long and 2.17 inches wide, with 24 independent suction cups providing a stronger and more stable suction force, so you don't have to worry about your phone falling during use.
- 【Back of Phone Suction Grip】Remove the adhesive film on the phone suction cup and stick it on the phone case. You can then fix the phone on any smooth surface, which is very convenient. (The phone suction cup cannot be removed and reused after being attached to the phone case. It is recommended to attach it to a regular phone case, not a valuable one.)
- 【Widely Used】Our non-slip silicone phone sticky grip mount attaches to almost any flat phone case and make it compatible with common mobile phones such as iPhone and Android. You can shoot, watch videos or video calls in the kitchen, gym, dance studio, bathroom and other places.
- 【Capture the Wonderful Picture】Whether you are a TikTok creator or just like to share videos and photos, this phone suction cup can help you hands-free capture wonderful videos and photos for sharing with friends.
- 【Note】You can fix the phone suction cup on a smooth surface such as a mirror or glass. If necessary, wipe the suction cup with a damp cloth to obtain stronger suction. Before releasing your hand, make sure the phone is firmly fixed. (Not applicable to rough walls, wooden surfaces, and other uneven surfaces)
Samsung’s large-screen guidance recommends a 50:50 pane ratio on Z Fold devices. A good two-pane layout exposes the app hierarchy without making you navigate through full-screen transitions for every selection.
Documented apps that use the large display well
The following behaviors were described by Google in 2023 announcements. They are useful reference points, not a current ranking or a promise that every feature appears on every Android foldable.
| App | Best use | What the inner screen adds | Evidence and limitation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Google Calendar | Planning and scheduling | Monthly calendar and event details can appear side by side; the layout transitions from the cover screen to the inner screen. | Google description from 2023; availability can vary by version and device. |
| YouTube Music | Listening and playlist management | Player controls sit beside lyrics or related content, while a two-column playlist view makes scanning and reordering easier. | Google description from 2023; current behavior is version-dependent. |
| Calm | Meditation and sleep sessions | Vertical navigation reduces scrolling and the layout shifts between folded and unfolded states. | Google description from 2023; not a universal guarantee. |
| Candy Crush Soda Saga | Casual gaming | The game uses more of the available display and adapts between portrait and landscape. | Google description from 2023; game updates may change the interface. |
| Peloton | Hands-free workouts | In tabletop posture, the workout occupies the upper half while health metrics appear below. | Google described a foldable-specific design in 2023; supported postures depend on the device and app release. |
| SideChef | Cooking from a recipe | Recipe steps can sit beside a timer or measurement calculator, reducing context switching. | Google example from 2023; split-screen behavior may differ by release. |
| LINE | Messaging | A two-pane view keeps the chat list visible beside the selected conversation. | Google described the layout in 2023 and notes that UI specifications vary by country. |
| Deezer | Music discovery and playback | Album art and lyrics appear alongside playback controls and sharing access. | Google description from 2023; account, country and version can affect availability. |
| Google Weather | Forecast checking | The folded view emphasizes today’s forecast; unfolding reveals more information in two panes. | Google foldable example from 2023; layout is subject to app updates. |
| Google Keep | Notes and reference material | Notes appear in one pane while the selected note opens in another for scanning and editing. | Google foldable example from 2023; test the current Play Store build on your model. |
List-and-detail work: Calendar, Keep and LINE
These apps demonstrate the most generally useful foldable pattern: a persistent list on one side and the selected item on the other. It is valuable whenever you repeatedly open several entries, because the list remains available instead of disappearing behind a back button. If an update removes the second pane or collapses it into a single column, the app is still usable but no longer taking full advantage of the inner display.
Media layouts: YouTube Music and Deezer
Music apps benefit when supporting content stays visible with playback controls. Lyrics, album information and sharing actions can remain accessible while the track continues. Check that text is readable at your preferred orientation and that the hinge does not cover a progress bar or play controls.

- SUPERIOR COMFORT — Unlike traditional circular ear buds, the design of EarPods is defined by the geometry of the ear. Which makes them more comfortable for more people than any other ear bud–style headphones.
- HIGH-QUALITY AUDIO — The speakers inside EarPods have been engineered to maximize sound output and minimize sound loss, which means you get high-quality audio.
- BUILT-IN REMOTE — EarPods with USB-C plug also include a built-in remote that lets you adjust the volume, control the playback of music and video, and answer or end calls with a pinch of the cord.
- COMPATIBILITY — Works with all devices that have a USB-C port.
- INTEGRATED MICROPHONE — A built-in microphone precisely captures your voice while you’re on the phone, taking a FaceTime call, or summoning Siri — so you’re always heard loud and clear.
Split-screen tasks: SideChef
Cooking is a clear example of task-specific multitasking. A recipe can remain open while a timer or measurement tool occupies the neighboring area. The benefit is not simply two apps at once; it is preserving the instruction you are following while performing the next step.
Tabletop and hands-free use: Peloton
A partly open hinge can hold a foldable at a useful angle for exercise or viewing. Peloton’s documented design puts the workout above and health metrics below. A stand is optional, not a compatibility requirement: the hinge may already provide the needed support, but a stand can improve stability if your model does not hold the desired angle.
Orientation-aware interfaces: Calm, Candy Crush Soda Saga and Google Weather
These examples show why orientation support matters. A large display should not force a single portrait layout when landscape or a partly open posture would be more comfortable. Games, forecasts and guided sessions should keep important controls visible as the window changes.

Samsung separates app design from device-level window management. In Multi view, supported apps such as Settings and Samsung Messages can show dual columns. Multi window adds split-screen and pop-up views, allowing you to place an app beside another or float it above the current task.

Samsung’s large-screen guidance says a Z Fold can display up to three split-screen views and five pop-up views simultaneously. Actual limits and supported combinations are model-dependent, and heavy multitasking can reduce available memory or make controls crowded.
Flex mode is different from ordinary split screen. It changes the interface when the phone is partly folded and may expose a Flex mode panel or touchpad. Samsung states, “Flex mode compatibility varies by app, with more apps expected to support it in the future.” The support page gives Camera, YouTube and Google Meet as examples of activities that can use cover or tent views. It also says Flex mode is not supported on Galaxy Z TriFold or Z Fold8 and lists the models eligible for Flex mode panel activation. Check the exact support page for your handset before relying on a posture-specific feature.
How to check an app on your own foldable
Because app updates, device models and regional builds change, a short hands-on check is more reliable than an old screenshot.
Recommended Free Tools
- Update first. Install the latest Android system update and the current Play Store version of the app. Older builds may lack a large-screen layout that the developer has since added.
- Open the app folded. Start a real task, such as opening an event, playing a song or selecting a note. Record where you are in the task.
- Unfold without closing it. Look for preserved content, scroll position and selection. A restart or jump to the home screen indicates weak continuity.
- Try portrait and landscape. Rotate the open device and inspect whether text, controls and media remain reachable. Make sure critical buttons are not under the hinge.
- Test the partly open position. Set the phone in tabletop or book posture and look for a useful rearrangement rather than a cramped half-screen or controls split by the hinge.
- Try the task with another app. On a Galaxy Z Fold, open the Multi window or Multi view controls and place the app beside a browser, notes app or timer. Confirm that both panes remain interactive.
- Check prolonged use. Play media, run a workout or scroll through a long list for several minutes. Watch for controls that disappear, forced relaunches or a window that becomes too narrow to use.
Google Play also provides tablet- and foldable-oriented collections and recommendations. Google’s adaptive-app guidance says an app that does not meet large-screen quality standards may receive a warning on its listing. Use those signals alongside current screenshots, then verify the behavior on your own handset.

Android version and model caveats
Platform requirements are improving, but they do not turn every app into an adaptive app. Android’s current guidance says applications targeting API 36 on large-screen devices with a smallest width of at least 600dp should support all orientations, aspect ratios and app resizability as the baseline, although developers can opt out. Google Play requires API 36 targeting as of August 2026.
That baseline addresses whether an app can resize and rotate; it does not promise a two-pane design, a tabletop layout or good placement around a hinge. Android also warns that folding, unfolding, rotation and window resizing can recreate an activity. Apps should preserve state, but an individual app may still lose a draft, reset a scroll position or reload content.
Availability can differ by:
- the exact foldable model and its screen dimensions;
- Android and One UI versions;
- the app release installed from Google Play;
- country, language, account type or staged rollout;
- orientation, hinge angle and whether another app is already sharing the screen.
Google has said that more than 50 of its apps had been updated for larger screens and that more than 300 million Android large-screen devices—including tablets, foldables, ChromeOS devices, car displays and TVs—were in use. Those figures describe the scale of the platform, not a guarantee that a particular app is optimized on your phone.

What to do when an app looks stretched or breaks
If the app is a single narrow column
Check for an in-app tablet, two-pane or “use full screen” setting, then update the app. If none exists, use the device’s split-screen tools to give the app a practical neighboring task; do not assume a forced resize will improve readability.

- 【Press Down Firmly Every 30 Minutes】Use your palm or fingers to press the phone down firmly and check it's secure before letting go. Apply even pressure for a few seconds to allow the suction cup to adhere properly. To maintain the grip and prevent accidental falls, it's a good practice to periodically reapply pressure to the suction cup.
If folding restarts the app
Save drafts before changing posture and update both Android and the app. If the problem persists, report the model, Android version, orientation and exact steps to the developer. The failure is a continuity issue, not evidence that the inner display itself is defective.
If controls sit under the hinge
Rotate to landscape or change the hinge angle. Use the app’s alternative navigation or a pop-up window when available. A layout that repeatedly places essential controls across the crease is not genuinely optimized, even if it technically opens on the full screen.
If Flex mode does nothing
Confirm that your model supports Samsung’s Flex mode panel and that the app implements posture-aware behavior. Samsung explicitly notes that compatibility varies by app; ordinary split-screen support cannot add a missing Flex mode layout.
A practical shortlist by reader goal
- Organizing information: Start with Calendar or Keep for list-and-detail work.
- Messaging with context: Try LINE where its two-pane layout is available in your country.
- Listening while reading: Compare YouTube Music and Deezer for the way each keeps supporting content beside controls.
- Hands-free activity: Use a partly open posture with Peloton or another app that explicitly supports tabletop viewing.
- Following instructions: SideChef is the clearest documented example of keeping steps beside a timer or calculator.
- Relaxation, games or quick information: Calm, Candy Crush Soda Saga and Google Weather illustrate orientation and folded-to-unfolded adaptation.
The right choice is therefore task-specific. An app that shows a true second pane may be better for planning, while a posture-aware player or workout app may be more valuable when you need hands-free use. Check the current listing and perform the fold, rotate and multitask tests before depending on any behavior.
