There is no Android switch that reliably delivers both higher frame rates and longer battery life. The practical approach is to tune the game’s workload (frame rate, resolution and effects), reduce display and background drain, and keep the phone cool. Menu names differ by manufacturer, Android release, model and region, so use the paths below as a guide and confirm the labels on your device.
What you can realistically improve
Gaming performance and endurance pull in opposite directions. Higher frame rates, brighter displays, maximum resolution and aggressive effects ask the processor, graphics chip and screen to do more work. That usually increases heat and battery drain. Battery-focused modes reduce background activity and sometimes limit performance, which can make a game less responsive.
Official Android support pages do not publish a universal FPS gain, battery-hours increase or percentage improvement for these settings. Results depend on the game engine, phone model, Android version, display, network conditions, ambient temperature and the game’s own limits. Treat every change as a controlled adjustment: change one setting, play the same scenario, and compare smoothness, temperature and battery use.
Change settings in this order

Check which apps are actually using power
Open your phone’s Battery page (usually Settings > Battery, then Battery usage or a similarly named item). Look at the period that includes your gaming session. If a social, shopping, navigation or media app is consuming power in the background without a reason, use its battery controls to restrict background use or uninstall it if you no longer need it. Google recommends restricting apps with high battery use, but broad restrictions can break syncing, alarms, messages or other essential behavior. Leave apps that you rely on unrestricted unless you have confirmed they are the source of the drain.

Reduce display drain for ordinary use
Screen power is often the easiest variable to control. Set brightness to the lowest level that remains comfortable in your room and shorten Screen timeout so the display turns off sooner when you put the phone down. Google lists both reduced brightness and a shorter timeout as battery-saving settings in its Android battery guidance.
Some Galaxy phones let you disable automatic brightness changes while a game is running. A fixed, readable level can prevent distracting shifts, but it is not automatically more efficient; test it on your own display and lighting. If your phone offers Dark theme, Google lists it as another possible battery-saving setting. Its effect depends on the display technology and the apps you use, so consider it an option rather than a guaranteed gaming tweak.

Set a sustainable frame rate in the game
Open the game’s own Graphics, Video or Performance menu. If the phone becomes hot or the battery falls quickly, try a moderate frame-rate cap instead of the highest available value. For example, move from an uncapped or very high option to the next lower preset, then play the same match or level. A lower cap can reduce rendering work, but some games may feel less fluid and the phone may still run hard if the game is CPU-limited.

Record the selected FPS, resolution, visual-quality preset and approximate play time, then compare the same game mode under similar network and room conditions. This method shows what your device and game actually do; no Android-wide setting guarantees a particular result.

Lower resolution and visual effects when heat is the problem
Resolution, shadows, reflections, anti-aliasing, texture quality and post-processing are usually grouped in the game’s graphics menu. Lower the most expensive effects first, or choose a balanced preset, if sustained smoothness matters more than image detail. Lowering resolution can make menus and distant objects look softer, while reducing effects changes the scene’s appearance. Keep a setting if it removes stutter without making the game difficult to read.

Use the phone maker’s per-game controls when available
On supported Samsung Galaxy devices running the relevant One UI software, Samsung’s guide updated March 19, 2026 places game controls at Gaming Hub > More options > Game Booster > Game optimisation. The page describes choosing an overall mode and setting game-specific options such as FPS, resolution and frame booster. It also notes that menus and features vary by software version, model and region; a different Galaxy may show different labels or lack a control entirely. When a game has its own graphics menu, use that menu for the game’s actual frame-rate and quality choices. The system panel can supplement those controls, but it cannot create a higher frame rate than the game, display or hardware supports.

Select a mode according to the session
Galaxy devices that expose Game Booster modes generally describe three choices:

Compare modes using frame-rate consistency, battery drain, heat and the responsiveness of notifications or other background tasks rather than assuming one is universally best. Turn on Android Battery Saver only when endurance is the priority
Android Battery Saver is an emergency or travel setting, not a performance booster. Google says it limits or turns off background activity and may delay visual effects, features, network connections or apps. Those limits can preserve charge, but they can also delay a message, cloud sync or other task and may make a game feel less consistent. Enable it from Settings > Battery > Battery Saver (the exact path varies) when you need the remaining percentage to last; turn it off for a responsiveness-focused session. Pixel phones: leave Adaptive Battery enabled unless you have a specific reason
On supported Pixel phones, Adaptive Battery and per-app battery optimization are enabled by default. Pixel software learns how you use apps and can reduce background activity for less-used apps. Google warns that Adaptive Battery may reduce performance or delay notifications, and disabling optimization for an app can increase its battery use. The official recommendation is to keep these features on rather than treating them as a gaming switch. Review the details in Google Pixel’s Adaptive Battery guidance.

If a game is being suspended, losing a download or missing a needed notification, inspect that game’s battery setting individually instead of disabling optimization for every app. Make the smallest change that solves the problem, then check battery use again.
Samsung system performance settings are not the same as game settings
Samsung Device Care may offer a Light performance mode that prioritizes battery life over processing speed. Samsung states that this device profile does not apply to game performance; game-specific controls belong in Game Booster. Do not expect switching Device Care’s profile to replace the FPS, resolution or frame-booster choices in Gaming Hub. See Samsung’s Device Care documentation for the distinction.
Keep heat and charging under control
Heat is both a comfort issue and a battery issue. Google notes that a hot phone drains much faster, even when it is not being used. Remove a thick case if it traps heat, avoid direct sun, lower demanding graphics settings and take a break if the chassis becomes uncomfortably hot. A cooler phone is more likely to sustain its chosen settings than one that is already heat-soaked.
When you play while plugged in, use the supplied or manufacturer-recommended adapter and a compatible cable. Google warns that other adapters can charge slowly or damage the phone or battery; its battery guidance explains the risk.

Selected Galaxy models include a Pause USB PD charging option that can power the phone from a compatible USB Power Delivery source while reducing or pausing battery charging during gameplay. Samsung documents this as a limited-model feature, not an Android-wide capability. Look for it in Gaming Hub or Game Booster only if your model and charger support it; never assume that the absence of the option indicates a fault. How to compare settings without fooling yourself
Use a repeatable test rather than judging a change from one unusually busy match. Choose the same game mode, map or level and similar network conditions. Let the phone reach its normal operating temperature, play for a fixed interval, and note the following:

Change one variable, keep the result if it improves the measure you care about, and then test the next variable. If an update changes the game or phone software, repeat the comparison because performance can change without any setting being altered.

The game still stutters after lowering graphics
Check whether the game is CPU-limited, downloading content, synchronizing online data or throttling after the phone heats up. Try a lower frame-rate cap, close only confirmed high-drain background apps, and test again after the phone cools. If the issue appears only on one title, its own update or settings are more likely than a universal Android switch.

That behavior is expected: Battery Saver can limit background activity and network work. Turn it off during sessions that require chat, voice or timely notifications, or adjust only the affected app’s battery setting instead of disabling optimization system-wide.

A Galaxy menu in a guide is missing
Samsung changes Game Booster labels and availability by One UI version, model and region. Install current system updates, open Gaming Hub and Game Booster directly, and consult the support page for your exact model. Device Care’s Light performance mode will not expose the game-specific controls.
The phone gets hot while charging and playing
Use a compatible adapter, improve airflow, remove heat-trapping coverings and lower the game workload. If your selected Galaxy model supports Pause USB PD charging, enable it only with a compatible USB-PD charger. Otherwise, unplugging for part of the session may be the simplest way to reduce heat.
A practical profile for most players
For everyday play, leave Adaptive Battery and normal app optimization enabled, restrict only apps that the Battery page identifies as unnecessary drains, and use comfortable rather than maximum brightness. Start each demanding game with its balanced graphics preset and a moderate FPS cap. If the phone remains cool and the battery cost is acceptable, raise one setting at a time. If endurance is more important, lower effects or resolution before resorting to system-wide Battery Saver, because game-level changes preserve more of the phone’s normal background behavior.
For a short competitive session, choose the game’s highest stable frame-rate option your phone can sustain, keep the display readable, and monitor heat. For a long trip or a low-charge situation, select a lower cap and visual preset, use Battery Saver with the expectation of delayed background work, and avoid charging with an incompatible adapter. Recheck these choices after major Android, One UI or game updates.
