The Radeon RX 6700 XT is a reasonable rough desktop comparison for Xbox Series X GPU performance, but it is not an exact equivalent. Microsoft specifies the console’s GPU as custom RDNA 2 hardware; differences in game optimization, settings and system design mean the two can produce different results.
Which AMD GPU is closest to Xbox Series X?
The Radeon RX 6700 XT is the closest desktop comparison cited in a secondary GPU-equivalence analysis. Treat that as a shorthand for a similar performance class—not a Microsoft-certified match or a promise of identical frame rates in every game.
Microsoft’s specifications identify a custom console GPU, not a retail Radeon model. Its design operates as part of the Series X system, so matching a few headline specifications does not establish that a desktop card will behave the same way in games.
What are the Xbox Series X GPU specifications?
Microsoft describes the Series X graphics processor as a custom AMD RDNA 2 GPU with 52 compute units, a 1.825 GHz clock and 12 TFLOPS of stated graphics performance. The console has 16 GB of GDDR6 system memory, split into bandwidth regions. These figures describe the console hardware; they do not by themselves predict a particular game’s frame rate.
#1 Best Overall
- Axial-tech fans now feature a smaller fan hub that facilitates longer blades and a barrier ring that increases downward air pressure
- 2.5-slot design allows for greater build compatibility while maintaining cooling performance
- 0dB technology lets you enjoy light gaming in relative silence
- Dual BIOS switch lets you toggle between Quiet and Performance BIOS profiles
- Dual ball fan bearings last up to twice as long as sleeve bearing designs
Microsoft lists 4K at 60 FPS as a performance target and says the console supports up to 120 FPS. Its product page describes the gaming resolution as True 4K and lists HDMI features including variable refresh rate and AMD FreeSync. Those are system capabilities, not guarantees that every game renders natively at 4K or sustains 120 FPS. Developers choose the resolution and frame-rate options for each title.
Why the RX 6700 XT comparison is only approximate
A console and a desktop PC run games in different hardware and software contexts. Console versions can be optimized for a fixed system configuration, while PC results depend on the rest of the build, graphics drivers and selected settings. Resolution, image-quality settings, upscaling and ray tracing can also shift performance substantially.

- Axial-tech fans now feature a smaller fan hub that facilitates longer blades and a barrier ring that increases downward air pressure
- Phase-change GPU thermal pad helps ensure optimal heat transfer, lowering GPU temperatures for enhanced performance and reliability
- 2.5-slot design allows for greater build compatibility while maintaining cooling performance
- Dual-ball fan bearings last up to twice as long as standard conventional sleeve bearings designs
- 0dB technology lets you enjoy light gaming in relative silence
Compute-unit counts and theoretical throughput are useful ways to describe hardware, but neither settles how two systems perform in actual games. The cited RX 6700 XT comparison is not based on a controlled set of game-by-game benchmarks proving universal parity with Series X.
How to make a fair PC-versus-console comparison
For a useful comparison, use the same game and align the conditions as closely as possible:
Rank #3
- System Compatibility Note: This 2‑slot card measures 249 mm (L) x 132 mm (W) x 41 mm (H) and requires a single 8‑pin power connector. Please verify available chassis clearance and ensure your power supply is rated for a recommended 550W before purchase.
- Dedicated Support: Please contact us directly through Amazon for any product questions or assistance you may require.
- Next‑Gen AMD RDNA 4 Architecture: Powered by the AMD Radeon RX 9060 XT GPU with 32 Compute Units featuring 3rd Gen Ray Tracing and 2nd Gen AI Accelerators, delivering exceptional 1440p gaming and AI‑enhanced performance.
- Blazing‑Fast Engine Clock: Delivers a boost clock of up to 3290 MHz and a game clock of 2700 MHz out of the box, providing the raw power for smooth, high‑framerate gameplay.
- 16GB GDDR6 Memory on 128‑Bit Bus: Equipped with 16GB of high‑speed GDDR6 memory running at 20 Gbps, offering ample capacity and bandwidth for modern game textures and creative applications.
- Match the output resolution and, where possible, the game’s rendering resolution.
- Compare broadly similar image-quality settings and rendering modes.
- Check whether either version uses upscaling or ray tracing.
- Compare frame rates in the same scenes or gameplay conditions, allowing for platform-specific optimization.
- Account for the PC’s CPU, memory configuration and graphics drivers, not just its GPU.
Without those controls, a claim that a desktop card is “as powerful” as the console can conceal meaningful differences between games and settings.
