Choose the smaller Amazon Kids Tablet 8 if easy carrying and one-handed handling matter most; choose the Amazon Kids Tablet 11 if a larger display better suits longer viewing, shared use, or school-oriented tasks. The size labels are not age recommendations. Think about where the tablet will be used and how comfortably the child can hold it, then confirm the exact model and generation before buying.
What size are the current Amazon Kids tablets?
Amazon’s current Kids tablet specifications cover two size families. The 2026 Amazon Kids Tablet 8 specification search result lists an 8.7-inch IPS display at 1340 × 800 resolution. The 2026 Amazon Kids Tablet 11 has an 11-inch IPS display at 2560 × 1600 resolution; Amazon’s model page was last updated October 8, 2026. The 8.7-inch figure comes from Amazon’s official search result, so verify the consumer-facing listing and model name when shopping.
These measurements describe the display diagonally, not the tablet’s full outside dimensions. Amazon explains that Fire tablet size labels refer to diagonal screen measurements: Fire HD 10 has a 10-inch screen, Fire HD 8 an 8-inch screen, and Fire 7 a 7-inch screen. A larger diagonal generally gives more screen area, but it does not tell you how wide, thick, or heavy the whole device is.

The 11 model’s specifications also list 8 GB LPDDR5 RAM and 64 GB or 128 GB storage. Those details may matter when comparing listings, but they do not determine which screen size will feel more comfortable to a particular child.

Which size fits your child’s use?
Choose the 8 family for portability and easier handling
A smaller tablet is a sensible starting point if the child will carry it between rooms, use it on trips, or hold it without a stand for reading or casual viewing. Its more compact screen may also suit a child who finds a larger device awkward to grip. These are practical considerations based on size, not measured handling results.
Choose the 11 for more screen space
The 11-inch display offers more room for video, drawing, homework, or showing content to another person. It can be more comfortable when the tablet is propped up or used at a table for longer sessions. The trade-off is a physically larger device to carry and hold.

Let the setting decide when both seem suitable
- Mostly travel or handheld use: lean toward the smaller family.
- Mostly a table, stand, or shared viewing: consider the 11-inch family.
- A mix of both: have the child hold a device of similar size if possible, and decide whether screen area or comfortable grip matters more.
These are use-case suggestions, not performance claims or an age-based prescription from Amazon.
Does age determine which size to buy?
No age-to-screen-size recommendation is established by the cited Amazon information. Amazon’s safety page for the Fire HD 10 (11th Generation) says Kids Edition is not suitable for children under 3 and Kids Pro is not suitable for children under 6. Those warnings apply to the specified Fire HD 10 product; they do not establish a general age rule for choosing between the current Kids Tablet 8 and 11.

For any device, follow its own safety information, supervise use, and set suitable duration and volume limits. Amazon’s Fire HD 10 guidance specifically tells parents to monitor use duration and volume. Do not treat the size of the screen as a substitute for those safeguards.

Amazon’s older Fire Kids products—including Fire HD 10, Fire HD 8, and Fire 7 Kids editions—are not interchangeable with the newly named 2026 Amazon Kids Tablet 8 and 11 families. The generation number is separate from screen size and corresponds to release year; Amazon identifies 2023 devices as 13th generation and 2022 devices as 12th generation. Some models shown in Amazon’s specifications are older and discontinued.

- Read the complete model name. Check whether the listing is for the 2026 Amazon Kids Tablet 8 or 11, or for an older Fire HD Kids edition.
- Check the generation. Do not assume that a review or specification for another generation applies to the model you are considering.
- Verify accessory fit against that exact model. Amazon’s safety guidance for the Fire HD 10 (11th Generation) says its glass screen should be used with the cited device’s Kid-Proof Case and advises inspection after a drop or impact. It does not establish compatibility with the newer 8 or 11 models. Confirm the exact tablet name and generation before buying a case or screen protector.
