For US buyers, the Instant Vortex Plus 6-Quart is the strongest tested all-around candidate in this price range: Food Network named it best overall after testing more than 25 models. If you want a larger single basket with a long stated warranty, consider the COSORI Iconic 6.5-Quart; if cooking two foods at once matters more, compare the Ninja Foodi 10-QT Dual Air Fryer or Frigidaire DualZone. Prices and availability can change, so check the current listing before buying.

These options are supported by an independent US comparison or current US manufacturer listings. Food Network’s cooking results are its own test findings; manufacturers’ prices, capacities, and functions describe their products, not independently verified performance.

What the independent testing establishes
Instant Vortex Plus: strongest tested pick in this shortlist
Food Network’s 2026 roundup, updated August 14, says it tested more than 25 models and selected the Instant Vortex Plus Six-Quart as best overall. The publication says the model produced its crispiest, most even results on fries, chicken, and cake within that test. That is a meaningful comparison, but it reflects Food Network’s test foods and setup—not a guarantee of the same result in every kitchen or for every recipe. Food Network’s shopping block has also displayed a different price from its summary, so verify the current offer rather than treating any historic price as fixed.

Manufacturer specifications are not test rankings
The COSORI, Ninja, and Frigidaire listings provide product details and prices, but those listings do not establish how the models compare in cooking tests. A larger stated capacity or more functions does not by itself mean faster, crispier, or more even results.
Choose capacity and basket style for your meals
Capacity figures are not a direct promise of how much food will cook well in one batch: food shape, airflow, and how tightly the basket is filled matter. Think about the portions you regularly make and whether you are willing to cook in batches. CHOICE kitchen expert Fiona Mair advises: “Air fryers can’t cook huge quantities of food at once, but they do come in different sizes, so choose a capacity that’s right for your household.”

- Choose a single basket if most meals are one food or you do not mind cooking separate items in batches. The Instant and COSORI models listed here are single-basket candidates.
- Choose dual baskets or zones if you often want two foods cooking at once. The Ninja and Frigidaire models offer that format, but their larger combined capacity does not establish a better cooking result.
- Measure the counter space where the appliance will sit, including room to use and clean it. Mair also cautions that air fryers take substantial bench space and are more useful when they can remain out for regular use.
How much should a good air fryer cost?
The examples here show a range of under-$250 US listings, from a displayed $199.99 promotional price for the Ninja to $249 for the COSORI; the Instant’s Food Network summary gave a $120–$150 range. Price alone does not tell you which is best. If the less expensive choice has the cooking capacity and controls you need, extra functions may add little value. Conversely, dual baskets can justify a higher price if cooking separate foods at the same time is a regular need.

What to check before you buy
Look for results on foods you actually cook
Compare reported outcomes for the foods you make most often, such as frozen chips or chicken, rather than relying on preset count. CHOICE says its testing includes frozen crumbed chicken, frozen chips, roast pork, and marinated chicken wings. It also scores usability factors such as controls, bulk, and cleaning. Those criteria are useful because an air fryer can cook well yet still be awkward to operate, clean, or store.

Prioritize usable functions and cleanup
List the functions you will use before comparing them. The COSORI listing specifies six functions, but a longer feature list is not evidence of better cooking. Consider whether removable parts are practical to wash and whether controls are easy to understand; CHOICE includes cleaning and controls in its usability assessment.
Check exact model, warranty, and live price
Confirm the product name and capacity on the retailer’s current page, especially for products with similar versions. The cited listings state a five-year limited warranty for COSORI Iconic and a one-year warranty for the Frigidaire FRDA100B. Warranty terms can have conditions, so read the manufacturer’s current coverage details. Treat the Ninja figure as a displayed sale price and verify it at checkout.

What the Australian under-$250 results do—and do not—show
CHOICE’s exact-title article is Australian, was last updated July 6, 2026, and says its experts reviewed 44 air fryers and benchtop ovens. Its public page gates the winning under-$250 choices to members, so the public information does not support naming a complete CHOICE winner list. It does publicly identify two tested models it advises against: Kitchen Couture Dual View Stainless Steel Air Fryer, listed at A$200 with a 67% score, and Sunbeam Nutricrisp 17L Air Fryer Oven COM3600BK, listed at A$149 with a 69% score. These Australian listings and scores should not be confused with the US-dollar examples above or treated as a ranking of all air fryers under US$250.
