Choose by what you want to control
For a plug-in device: Kasa HS103P2 or Wyze Plug
A smart plug lets a voice assistant switch power to a connected device; it does not turn every appliance into a suitable smart device. Check the plug’s electrical rating and follow the appliance maker’s instructions before connecting anything. A plug is not a substitute for a device’s own controls, and compatibility with a voice platform does not establish that a particular appliance is safe to automate.

TP-Link lists the Kasa HS103P2 V3 as compatible with Alexa, Google Home and SmartThings, with schedules, timers, grouping and remote control. Wyze states that Wyze Plug supports voice commands through Alexa and Google Assistant. Do not assume that features or setup steps for one plug model apply to another.

For room lighting: Tapo L530E or L535E
Both bulbs are listed as RGBW options compatible with Alexa and Google Home. Before ordering, verify the bulb’s base and socket fit your fixture. The L535E is identified as Matter-certified, which can make it easier to add a device to more than one compatible platform, but Matter does not remove the need for supported controllers, hubs or apps in every setup.
For accent lighting: Tapo L930-5
The Tapo store lists the L930-5 as a 16.4-foot RGBWIC light strip and includes Alexa and Google Home among its compatible platforms. Check the product listing for the current installation and control requirements; the strip serves a different purpose from a bulb or switched outlet.

What setup usually requires
Check Wi-Fi before starting
Amazon Customer Service says most smart-home Wi-Fi devices work only on 2.4 GHz bands. Verify your router can provide the band required by the specific device, and follow that device’s instructions. A device appearing as Alexa- or Google-compatible does not mean it will connect to every Wi-Fi configuration.
Use the vendor app when the product requires it
Some Tapo smart plugs need initial configuration in the Tapo app before they can be linked to Alexa or Google Home. TP-Link describes linking Tapo and Kasa devices to Google Home either through the vendor app or through Google Home’s Works with Google Home flow. The available features can vary by product; for example, camera streaming has compatible-display or device requirements, which do not apply to these lighting and plug examples.

Understand the Matter route
TP-Link says Matter devices can be set up in the Tapo/Kasa app or a supported third-party app, and that most third-party-app setups require a Matter hub. Matter’s multi-admin capability lets a compatible device be controlled from multiple platforms, but each platform still needs a supported setup path. Check current compatibility and app requirements for the exact device and controller before choosing this route.

How to make a practical choice
- Match the device to the job. Choose a plug for a suitable plug-in device, a bulb for a compatible socket, or a strip for accent lighting.
- Check physical and electrical fit. Confirm bulb base, strip length and placement, or plug rating against the fixture or appliance instructions.
- Confirm platform and network support. Check the exact model’s Alexa or Google Home compatibility and its Wi-Fi requirements; do not infer support across an entire brand.
- Pick the setup route. Follow the vendor-app instructions where required. For Matter, verify the controller or hub and app path you plan to use.
