For genuine 24/7 security footage, choose a camera explicitly specified for continuous recording, provide constant power, and size its storage for your camera count and recording settings. The Reolink Duo 3 PoE is a wired camera option; TP-Link’s Omada T8S4-4T is a four-camera PoE kit with an NVR. Neither should be treated as a universally best choice: the available manufacturer specifications do not establish comparative image quality, reliability, or value.
What to check before choosing a 24/7 camera
“24/7” should mean recording continuously—not merely staying connected and saving clips when motion is detected. Confirm that the exact camera model and recorder combination supports continuous recording. A feature listed for one model does not establish that every camera in the same product family has it.
- Recording mode: Look for explicit continuous or 24/7 recording support, and check whether recording is configured on the camera, recorder, or both.
- Power and connection: Plan for a dependable power source and a suitable network connection. Reolink’s guide presents constant-power wired cameras as the appropriate long-term route for always-on recording; its product categories also include selected battery-powered models.
- Storage: Decide whether footage will go to a recorder, camera microSD card, or another supported destination. Verify the exact model’s options and capacity limits.
- Camera and recorder fit: Check camera count, wired-camera limits, and compatibility for the exact models. A recorder’s channel ceiling does not guarantee that every IP camera will work with it.
- Retention target: Work out how much footage you need to keep using the actual resolution, frame rate, compression, number of cameras, and recording settings. Storage capacity alone does not establish a specific number of retention days.

Which type of setup suits your installation?
Choose a single wired camera when coverage is the priority
The Reolink Duo 3 PoE is one documented example of a wired camera explicitly offered with continuous recording. Its listed 180° panoramic view may be relevant where a wide scene matters, but the specification does not show how it compares with other cameras in real conditions. Check the placement, power and network route, and the chosen storage destination before buying.

Choose a kit when you want cameras and an NVR together
The Omada T8S4-4T combines four 8MP PoE cameras with an NVR. TP-Link lists a 4TB included drive, expansion to 16TB, and camera microSD support up to 512GB. These figures describe this system, not a general capacity standard. A larger drive does not by itself tell you how many days your footage will remain available.
Choose a recorder around the actual camera count
The Reolink NVS16 is specified for up to 24 IP cameras, but no more than 16 wired cameras. Treat those as channel limits, not proof of compatibility with any camera you connect. Confirm the exact camera models, connection types, and supported recording features before building around a recorder.

How to plan storage without guessing retention
Continuous recording generates footage around the clock, so retention depends on the whole configuration—not just the drive size. The cited product specifications do not validate a number of retention days across different camera counts, resolutions, frame rates, compression methods, and settings.

- List the number of cameras and the recording resolution, frame rate, and compression settings you intend to use.
- Identify the storage destination for each camera and verify its supported capacity and compatibility.
- Use verified inputs for the planned setup to estimate storage needs. Do not present a drive-capacity figure as a guaranteed retention period.
- Allow for the possibility that recording settings or camera count may change, and check the recorder’s expansion limits.
Wired, PoE, and battery-powered considerations
PoE carries power and network connectivity over an Ethernet cable, making it a practical option when a suitable cable run and PoE equipment are available. A wired camera still requires a compatible network and storage plan; “wired” alone does not confirm continuous recording.

Plug-in and direct-power wired installations are another way to provide constant power. Battery-powered models require more care: do not assume that a camera advertised for security recording can record continuously on battery. The reviewed guidance identifies selected battery-powered models but presents constant-power wired cameras as the long-term approach for always-on recording. Check the exact model’s specified recording modes and power requirements.

- For other wired routes: The eufy category describes PoE/NVR and direct-power approaches, but the exact model’s continuous-recording support still needs confirmation.
There is no evidence here for an objective winner in image quality, reliability, or value. Compare the exact models on continuous-recording support, power, storage, channel needs, compatibility, and installation—and treat manufacturer specifications as specifications, not independent test results.
