No. Valheim is available on PC, Linux, Mac, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch 2. Its full release, version 1.0, launched on September 9, 2026, and the platforms support crossplay, so players can join friends using other systems.
Which platforms support Valheim?
Iron Gate Studio’s June 7, 2026 announcement listed these platforms for Valheim 1.0: PC, Linux, Mac, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch 2. The developer said the platforms would support full crossplay. Valheim 1.0 launched on September 9, 2026, rather than remaining a planned future release. Iron Gate’s platform announcement and 1.0 launch post confirm those details.
Later notes refer to PlayStation 5 and Switch 2 fixes, confirming those versions were supported after launch. In its September 25, 2026 patch notes, Iron Gate said crossplay remained functional while updates were rolling out to platforms at different times. That confirms crossplay during that specific rollout, not a guarantee that every platform always receives every update simultaneously. Read the Patch 1.0.16 notes.

How does crossplay work?
According to Iron Gate’s Crossplay FAQ, a player can join a friend on another platform with a join code. The host gets the code from the pause menu, and the friend enters it in the Join Game section. Iron Gate’s Crossplay FAQ explains the process.

Does buying Valheim on one storefront include another version?
Not in every case. The FAQ says a purchase through the Microsoft Store also enables Xbox play, and an Xbox purchase enables Microsoft Store play. Steam and Microsoft Store are separate: a Steam purchase does not let you launch the game through the Microsoft Store. Players can still play together across those platforms.
Iron Gate says the versions have no gameplay differences and continue to receive updates at the same pace. Store ownership terms can change or vary by region, so check the current terms on the storefront where you plan to buy.

Can an Xbox host a dedicated server?
No. Iron Gate’s FAQ says Xbox consoles cannot host dedicated servers. Xbox players can join a dedicated server if crossplay is enabled both on the console and on the server. This hosting limitation does not prevent Xbox players from playing multiplayer.

Are there Switch 2-specific features?
In its February 5, 2026 announcement, Iron Gate described mouse mode, touchscreen support for menus, advanced vibrations, and gyroscope aiming for the Switch 2 version.
