This guide separates confirmed design information from details that still need post-launch verification, so you can recognize what Qingzhou is expected to offer without treating a pre-launch announcement as hands-on documentation.
What is Qingzhou, and when is it supposed to open?
Qingzhou is the major new region announced for Version 2.3 of Where Winds Meet. The official Version 2.3 developer letter, published October 9, 2026, says the journey to Qingzhou begins on October 15, 2026. That date was still in the future at the October 13 information cutoff, so it should be read as a planned launch date rather than proof that the region is already playable.
The preview gives a strong sense of the region’s geography and activities, but it does not provide an unlock walkthrough. In particular, it does not state a character level, story chapter, quest name, travel point, or other prerequisite. Those omissions matter: an announced opening date does not mean every player can walk into Qingzhou immediately, and it does not establish whether access is account-wide, character-specific, or tied to a particular part of the main story.

What kind of place is Qingzhou?
The developer’s setting description draws primarily on China’s Shandong province and frames Qingzhou as a vertical journey: begin in the highlands, move through inhabited countryside and wetlands, then continue toward the coast. The contrast between mountain paths, agricultural settlements, river estuary, and island scenery is central to the region’s identity.
Mount Tai: the highland starting point in the preview
The announced route begins at Mount Tai. The preview describes stone steps beneath pine trees, the South Gate to Heaven, and inscriptions cut into cliffs. From the summit, players are expected to look over villages, farmland, rivers, and the distant coast. This is more than background scenery: high locations are presented as deliberate observation points from which you can read the surrounding landscape and choose where to go next.

Wellspring Town: springs, carp, and kites
Wellspring Town is depicted as a settlement built around springs. Its distinctive details include brocade carp and kites, giving the town a calmer, local character than the exposed mountain route. The preview does not identify a specific quest chain, vendor, reward, or collectible count for the town, so those should be treated as launch-day discoveries rather than established facts.

It does not specify the required ability, mount, quest, stamina behavior, or whether this is a free-roaming activity or a set-piece sequence.
Mount Penglai: an island of learning
Mount Penglai is described as an island containing academies, sage statues, and a Pavilion of Tomes. Its placement near the end of the mountain-to-coast journey gives Qingzhou a strong cultural and maritime endpoint. The announcement does not list the academies’ functions, the Pavilion’s rewards, or any admission requirement.

How exploration is designed to work
The official letter calls “scaling heights for grand views” a core pillar of regional exploration. In practical terms, that means Qingzhou’s elevated paths are intended to help you inspect nearby settlements, routes, and possible destinations before committing to a direction. The exact interface for marking or revealing points of interest has not been documented, so do not assume that every viewpoint automatically unlocks a map icon or fast-travel point.

Use elevation as orientation, not as a checklist
When the region is live, high ground should be useful for understanding the terrain: identify the next valley, settlement, shoreline, or island approach, then descend toward the feature that matches your current objective. The preview supports the role of viewpoints, but it does not promise a fixed number of towers, completion percentage, or reward track. Treat the landscape as navigation help rather than assuming a conventional tower-clearing system.
Investigate the Han Dynasty tomb
Under Mount Tai, the developer previews a Han Dynasty tomb explored with allies. It is expected to contain traps, dangerous vermin, and mechanical puzzles. That combination implies a mixed expedition: combat readiness matters, but observation and puzzle-solving may be just as important. No solution order, enemy list, recommended level, or reward table has been released, so guides that claim those specifics before launch cannot be verified from the official announcement.
Follow stories that begin as hearsay
Along the coast, a local story may lead to an unexpected adventure. This wording suggests that overheard information or resident conversations can direct exploration away from the obvious route. The source does not define the trigger, fail state, time limit, or outcome. Listen for local narrative clues, but avoid assuming that every rumor starts a quest or that one specific companion is required.

Locals are the only explicitly announced progression-adjacent feature in the Qingzhou preview. The developer describes residents whom players can meet and invite to travel with them. Different Locals are expected to contribute different talents, changing how you approach social encounters, points of interest, caves, mechanisms, traversal, fishing, and heavy doors.

The official letter calls Qingzhou “our deepest integration yet between NPCs and open-world exploration.” That is a design goal, not a published progression chart. There is no confirmed companion capacity, affinity or bond threshold, recruitment sequence, dismissal rule, or named Local who must be present for the main story. Until those mechanics are documented in live notes, plan around flexibility rather than a presumed optimal party.
How to prepare for Qingzhou without relying on rumors
- Confirm that Version 2.3 is available. The announced date is not the same as a completed rollout. Check the game’s current update notice and your platform’s installed version.
- Read the live access notice. Look specifically for a named quest, level requirement, region gate, or prerequisite chapter. None of those details was included in the pre-launch letter.
- Open the current map after updating. Look for an entrance connected to Mount Tai, a newly marked route, or an objective that directs you toward Qingzhou. The actual travel route was not published in advance.
- Follow the first confirmed objective rather than forcing the border. If the game presents a quest or interaction, use that as the authoritative unlock path instead of relying on unofficial coordinates.
- Meet residents before choosing a single approach. Because Local talents are described as complementary, note which resident helps with social, observation, puzzle, traversal, fishing, or heavy-door situations.
- Record requirements as you discover them. For a reliable personal checklist, note the quest name, level or story condition, location, and any Local needed. This avoids confusing an optional activity with the region’s actual entry requirement.
What is still unknown about access and progression?
Several common questions cannot be answered from the official pre-launch material:
- No minimum character level or combat-stat threshold is given.
- No prerequisite main quest, side quest, or chapter is named.
- No exact route from the existing world to Qingzhou is shown.
- No number of Local companions, recruitment order, or bond system is documented.
- No companion is identified as mandatory for story completion.
- No statistics are published for Qingzhou’s activities, collectibles, enemies, rewards, or completion rate.
These are evidence limits, not proof that the mechanics do not exist. A missing requirement in the announcement should be treated as unresolved until a current in-game notice or authoritative post-launch guide confirms it.
Can an interactive map help?
An external map can be useful only after its Qingzhou data is current. The available map reference, Where Winds Meet Map — Interactive Map for Bosses, NPCs & Collectibles, is a general interactive-map resource; the available material does not establish that its Qingzhou coverage is complete or live. Check its update date and compare every marker with the game before treating it as a route planner.

For the first exploration pass, the in-game map and quest objectives should take priority over an unverified third-party marker. This is especially important for rumor-led activities, temporary events, puzzle entrances, and Local interactions, which may not appear on a static map until discovered.
What should you look for on your first visit?
Once access is confirmed, Qingzhou rewards a deliberate sequence rather than rushing directly to the coast. Start by learning how the region’s elevation reveals nearby paths. Visit settlements as you encounter them, because the Local system is tied to residents and their different strengths. Then pursue optional-looking clues around caves, mechanisms, and coastal stories; the preview specifically connects these activities to exploration and companions.
Keep separate notes for three categories: navigation landmarks, Local abilities, and activities with unresolved requirements. This prevents a scenic viewpoint, a recruitment interaction, and a story gate from being mistaken for the same kind of progression. It also makes later route planning easier if the live version introduces multiple approaches.
Bottom line for players deciding whether to wait
Qingzhou is a substantial announced expansion area built around a mountain-to-sea journey, environmental viewpoints, settlements with local stories, a dangerous tomb, coastal discovery, and companion-assisted exploration. The date and feature list are official announcements, but the practical unlock path is not yet published. Treat any level, quest, route, or recruitment rule as unconfirmed until Version 2.3 is live and an authoritative source documents it.
