In the United States, the 1984 The NeverEnding Story is the easiest of the three films to watch: it is listed with a Philo subscription, free with ads on Philo, The Roku Channel, YouTube Free, and Plex Player, and for digital rental or purchase from several stores. The NeverEnding Story II: The Next Chapter is listed for digital rental or purchase, but the cited guide shows no subscription or free-streaming option. The NeverEnding Story III was reported as unavailable to stream in a JustWatch check dated July 8, 2026, with a DVD/Blu-ray purchase listed instead. The films do not share one confirmed U.S. service, so check each title separately before you start a marathon.
U.S. availability at a glance
The table reflects the dated U.S. listings available for this guide. Streaming catalogs and digital-store rights can change, so treat the dates as part of each result rather than as a permanent guarantee.
| Film | Subscription or free, ad-supported viewing | Digital rental or purchase | Physical option listed | Listing date |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| The NeverEnding Story (1984) | Philo; free with ads on Philo, The Roku Channel, YouTube Free, and Plex Player | Amazon Video, Apple TV Store, and Fandango At Home | DVD and Blu-ray, including Amazon DVD/Blu-ray | JustWatch check: October 11, 2026 |
| The NeverEnding Story II: The Next Chapter (1990) | The cited U.S. guide shows no subscription option and says it is not free to watch | Amazon Video, Apple TV Store, Google Play Movies, YouTube, and Fandango At Home | The cited guide does not establish a physical-media option | OTTASIA guide, crawled on the research date |
| The NeverEnding Story III (1994) | JustWatch reported that it was not available to stream online | No current rental or digital-purchase option was shown in that listing | DVD/Blu-ray purchase through Amazon DVD/Blu-ray | JustWatch check: July 8, 2026 |
These are U.S. listings only. A service that appears in the United States may not carry the same film in Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, or another market.

The original has the broadest set of listed choices. If you already subscribe to Philo, its listing provides a subscription route. The same film is also shown as free with advertising through Philo, The Roku Channel, YouTube Free, and Plex Player. “Free with ads” is different from an ordinary subscription stream: you normally watch scheduled or inserted advertising instead of paying a separate rental charge.

- Factory sealed DVD
Subscription viewing
Open your Philo account and search for the exact 1984 title. Confirm that the result is the feature film, not a trailer, clip, or similarly named program. Availability can be tied to the service’s U.S. catalog and can change after a listing is published.
Free, ad-supported viewing
The cited listing names four ad-supported routes: Philo, The Roku Channel, YouTube Free, and Plex Player. Search within each service rather than assuming that an app’s general catalog is identical across devices. If one result asks you to rent or subscribe, return to the search results and look for the service’s free-with-ads entry.
Renting or buying digitally
For a one-time viewing, the original is listed on Amazon Video, Apple TV Store, and Fandango At Home. A rental normally gives temporary access under that store’s terms; a purchase is a separate transaction intended to remain in your digital library under the store’s rules. Check the price, rental window, playback devices, and whether the listing is HD or another edition before paying.

DVD and Blu-ray editions are listed, including Amazon DVD/Blu-ray. Physical media is useful when a streaming listing disappears, when your internet connection is unreliable, or when you want a copy that is not dependent on a changing subscription catalog. Verify the specific edition and region compatibility before ordering.

Where to watch The NeverEnding Story II: The Next Chapter (1990)
The second film is not presented as a free or subscription stream in the cited U.S. guide. Instead, it is listed as a transactional title: you can rent or buy it through Amazon Video, Apple TV Store, Google Play Movies, YouTube, or Fandango At Home.
How to choose among the digital stores
- Search for the full title, including “The Next Chapter” and the year 1990.
- Check that the synopsis and artwork identify Bastian’s return to Fantasia and the threat from Xayide and the Emptiness.
- Compare rental and purchase terms shown by the store you use. Do not treat a purchase listing as a subscription benefit.
- Confirm that the transaction is offered for your U.S. account and that the selected video quality works on your device.
The cited guide also says the film is not free to watch. That does not prove that no future ad-supported listing can appear; it describes the guide’s result when it was crawled. Recheck the title if you are reading this later.
Where to watch The NeverEnding Story III (1994)
The third film has the least certain current online access. A JustWatch listing checked July 8, 2026 reported that it was not available to stream online and did not show a current rental or digital-purchase option. It did list a DVD/Blu-ray purchase through Amazon DVD/Blu-ray.
Because that check is older than the October 11, 2026 check for the original, describe the result as a dated status, not a permanent removal. Search JustWatch or the major stores again immediately before watching. If no digital listing appears, the listed disc route is the documented fallback, subject to stock and edition availability.

Confirming that you have the right film
Search using both the English title and the German original title, Die unendliche Geschichte III – Rettung aus Phantásien. The listing describes Bastian trying to restore order after bullies take the magical book. Matching the year, synopsis, and artwork helps prevent buying a different adaptation or an unrelated compilation.
Do the three films stream together?
No single U.S. service is shown carrying all three in the cited listings. The original has subscription, ad-supported, transactional, and disc options; the second is listed for digital rental or purchase; and the third’s cited online check found no streaming option. Availability for one film therefore says nothing about either sequel.
If you want to watch the trilogy in release order, plan three separate checks:
- 1984: choose one of the listed streaming, free-with-ads, rental, purchase, or disc options.
- 1990: arrange a rental or purchase from one of the five listed digital stores.
- 1994: check again for a newly added digital listing; otherwise look for the listed DVD/Blu-ray route.

- Set the country correctly. The results above are for the United States. A virtual private network or a foreign account does not turn a U.S. listing into worldwide rights.
- Search the exact film and year. Include “1984,” “1990,” or “1994” so a service does not return a similarly titled program.
- Separate access types. Look for labels such as subscription, free with ads, rent, buy, or disc. A search result that contains the title is not necessarily included in your existing plan.
- Open the playback page. Confirm that the play button works for your account and location instead of relying only on a catalog thumbnail.
- Check the date of the listing. The third-film result is from July 8, 2026, while the original-film result is from October 11, 2026. Older information deserves an extra check.
- Review the edition. Compare runtime, rating, synopsis, and artwork. This is especially important when a title has multiple cuts, sequels, or translated names.
Identifying the correct editions
The 1984 original
The U.S. availability page identifies the original as 101 minutes and rated PG. Its story follows Bastian, who discovers a book about Fantasia and a threat called the Nothing. Those details distinguish it from the two sequels when a store’s search results place the films together.
The 1990 sequel
The NeverEnding Story II: The Next Chapter is listed at 90 minutes. Its synopsis has Bastian returning to Fantasia while Xayide and the Emptiness threaten the realm.
The 1994 sequel
The NeverEnding Story III is also identified by its German title, Die unendliche Geschichte III – Rettung aus Phantásien. The listing’s synopsis describes Bastian attempting to restore order after bullies take the magical book.

What to do when a listing does not work
The service shows the title but no play button
Recheck your country, sign-in status, and plan. A catalog entry may remain visible after rights change or may represent a rental listing rather than included viewing. Try the service’s web player as well as its device app, then check another access type in the table.

- Factory sealed DVD
A “free” result asks for payment
Make sure you selected the free-with-ads result rather than a paid version of the same film. The original has both ad-supported and paid listings, so a store page can show a rental price even when another service carries an ad-supported stream.
The sequel is missing from your preferred service
Do not infer that the sequel should be included because the 1984 film is available. Search the sequel’s complete title and use one of the digital stores specifically listed for the 1990 film.
The third film cannot be found online
That matches the July 8, 2026 JustWatch result. Recheck current listings first; if no digital option has appeared, use the listed DVD/Blu-ray purchase route and verify the edition before ordering.
Geography, timing, and changing rights
Every availability statement here is limited to the United States. Streaming and transactional rights are licensed separately, so a film can move from one service to another or disappear from a store without the other two films changing. For that reason, check all three titles immediately before your planned viewing date, especially the third film, whose cited status is the oldest.
