For the best reception, start by placing your Mohu Leaf high and near a window, away from metal, and pointed generally toward the local broadcast stations you want to watch. Then scan for channels and repeat the scan after every move. The best spot depends on your home and the stations nearby, so treat placement as a test rather than a guaranteed formula.
How to find the best spot for your Mohu Leaf
Work through a few positions and compare the results using the same television and channel-scan process. Mohu says a higher location or placement close to or in a window may improve reception; neither is a guarantee. Walls, terrain, buildings, and other objects can also affect the signal.
- Connect the antenna. Plug it into the television’s ANT/IN input. For a Leaf 50, connect the supplied cable between the antenna and amplifier, and power the amplifier as its setup guide directs.
- Set the tuner to over-the-air TV. In the television’s setup menu, choose “Antenna” or “Air,” then run a channel scan. Menu labels vary by TV.
- Choose a starting position. Place the Leaf as high as practical and near or in a window, if possible. Keep it away from metal; for mounting, Mohu’s Leaf 50 guide suggests a non-metallic wall or bookcase.
- Aim toward the stations you want. Find the general direction of the local broadcast stations you care about and orient the antenna that way. There is no universal compass direction that works for every location.
- Scan and record the result. Note which desired channels appear and whether reception is stable. If you move or turn the antenna, scan again before comparing results. Mohu’s Leaf 50 guide advises: “If reception is sporadic, try moving the antenna to another location and rescanning the TV.”
Change one factor at a time where practical—height, window proximity, direction, or nearby obstructions—so you can tell which adjustment helped. Mohu’s instructions say to rescan whenever the antenna is moved.

What to compare between positions

For a Leaf 50, test with the amplifier removed
Mohu’s Leaf 50 setup guide recommends trying reception without the amplifier if reception is still problematic. This is model-specific advice, not a general instruction for every Leaf antenna; follow the guide for the exact model you own.

Consider whether an indoor position is the limit
If repeated indoor adjustments do not provide the channels and stability you need, an outdoor antenna may be an option. Outdoor installation involves additional mounting and setup demands, and the available guidance does not establish that it will solve reception at every home.
Why there is no guaranteed best placement
The right position depends on where the stations are relative to your home and how the signal is affected by your building, terrain, nearby structures, and other obstacles. Without your location and local station information, a specific bearing or reception prediction cannot be established. Use channel scans to compare real results in your own room.
