Voss’s Compensator is inside the first Emergency Relief Crate in the Library Annex’s Registry/Reception area during Chapter 2, “The Wake-Up Call.” Pick up an E.R.C. Activator Pen elsewhere in the Annex, return to the crate, and activate its panel. Open it before leaving the chapter area, as guides warn it may not be possible to return.
Where is Voss’s Compensator?
Look for the first E.R.C. crate on the first floor of the Library Annex, in the area guides variously call the Registry or Reception. It appears during Chapter 2, “The Wake-Up Call.” The crate is the one you need; the Compensator is inside it, not elsewhere in the upper Annex. VGTimes’ upgrade guide and AllThingsHow’s crate guide identify it as the first Annex crate.
How to unlock the crate
- Find the crate and remember its location. It is locked when you first encounter it.
- Explore the Library Annex for an E.R.C. Activator Pen. The pen is a key item required to open the crate.
- Return to the Registry/Reception crate. You must go back after finding the pen; acquiring it does not open the crate automatically.
- Use the pen at the crate’s panel. Interact with the panel to open the E.R.C. and collect Voss’s Compensator.
Your return route depends on how far you have progressed through the Annex. Guides describe returning by way of the Safe Room or an opened shortcut; deal with any enemies in your path if needed. NerdsChalk’s item guide also describes the pen-and-return sequence.
What Voss’s Compensator does
It is a weighted muzzle attachment for the Equalizer Mk. II pistol. VGTimes describes it as helping you aim more accurately under pressure. The available guides do not give a numerical accuracy, recoil, spread, or damage modifier, so there is no supported percentage to expect.
One walkthrough reports that fully focused shots can slow enemies, but that effect is not corroborated by the other guides cited here. Treat it as unconfirmed rather than a guaranteed property of the attachment. GamesRecon’s Library Annex walkthrough is the source of that single-guide claim.

Guides warn that the crate may be missable once you progress beyond the chapter area. Make opening the first Annex E.R.C. crate part of your Chapter 2 checklist before moving on; do not assume you can return later.
