The Veteran’s Battle Axe is a pickup in the lowest chamber of the King’s Crypt in Fainweald. Start at the Blackridge Pass Beacon, make your way through the crypt, defeat the guard in the final room, then loot the corpse beside the sarcophagus. Entering the crypt alone does not award the weapon.
How to reach the Veteran’s Battle Axe
- Start at Blackridge Pass Beacon. Follow the cliff- or mountain-side route toward the King’s Crypt in Fainweald. The route descriptions agree on these anchors, although their intermediate landmarks differ. See the MortalShell.org weapon reference and the Mortal Shell II Companion location index.
- Find the crypt entrance. One walkthrough describes a ledge-side cave and an illusory wall before a lift; another gives the broader direction of following the cliff-side path from the beacon. Treat those details as route guidance rather than a single confirmed sequence.
- Descend through the dungeon carefully. The detailed walkthrough describes a lift, dark pressure-plate slabs, a final drop, and a spear-wielding guard. Watch the floor and hazards as you proceed; this sequence is documented by one guide, not independently confirmed in every route account. See Nerd’s Chalk’s walkthrough, updated August 20, 2026.
- Clear the lowest room and loot the pickup. After dealing with the final guard, inspect the corpse beside the sarcophagus and interact until the weapon-acquired confirmation appears.
What the available stats do—and do not—show
MortalShell.org classifies the Veteran’s Battle Axe as an axe and lists an upgrade damage multiplier ranging from ×1 at +0 to ×1.8 at +16. These are database values from a snapshot dated August 19, 2026, not guaranteed current-patch damage-per-hit figures. The reference also lists progressions for other attributes, including stagger damage and elemental efficiency, but does not establish a controlled, current-patch comparison with other weapons.
A separate search result gives a base-damage figure of 38, but the underlying page was inaccessible and that number was not corroborated by the accessible references. It should not be treated as a verified stat. The weapon reference also says it has not retested every value against every patch, so check the values shown in your own game before making upgrade decisions.

The weapon reference lists Lost Clotstone as the axe’s weapon ability: it spends Resolve to spin and release the weapon. It also lists Curse compatibility through Curseblood Stone and Burn through Inflamed Clawstone. Stillblade’s Stone and Zealot’s Stone are listed for a light-combo finisher; Clerik’s Stone and Tyrant’s Stone are listed for a heavy-combo finisher. These are compatibility entries from the August 19, 2026 database snapshot, so confirm that the options appear in your game before spending materials.

A fan guide updated September 5, 2026, describing a Week 1 PC build, characterizes the axe as a heavy melee weapon suited to broad sweeps and running pressure. That is an editorial description, not a controlled performance ranking. To learn whether its pace suits you, test a single safe attack, a complete light-attack string, and the special ability separately against a familiar enemy. Pay attention to attack commitment and recovery rather than assuming a listed multiplier predicts your results.
How to judge whether it fits your playstyle
The available sources do not establish that the Veteran’s Battle Axe is best-in-class or provide a controlled current-patch ranking. Compare it in play against the weapons you already use by looking at reach and coverage, recovery after attacks, stagger, stamina or Resolve costs, and whether its available status effects suit your build. The axe’s listed options give you different ways to experiment, but the right choice depends on the combat pace and resources you prefer.

- Arcade-Favorite Games: 3 Mortal Kombat arcade titles ship on this cabinet, Mortal Kombat and Mortal Kombat II among them, so the ladder, the hidden fighters and the finishing moves live on the countertop
- Real-Feel Joystick and Buttons: Full-size arcade controls sit under your hand the way the original cabinets did, which is the point of buying an arcade machine instead of playing arcade games on a phone
- 7" Full-Color LCD: A 7 inch full-colour screen keeps the sprites sharp and the frame rate smooth, and the viewing angle suits a table top or a bar top where you stand over it rather than sit
- Portable with a Built-In Handle: A top-mounted carry handle and a countertop footprint mean it moves between a desk, a shelf and a game room unaided, far smaller than full size arcade machines
- Multiple Power Options: Run it on 4 AA batteries, not included, or plug in a Micro-USB cable, and it arrives fully assembled with nothing to build, among the easier gifts for a retro gaming household
