The Galaxy S21’s SIM tray is on the phone’s top edge. It is not an SD-card slot: Samsung’s instructions identify it as a tray for nano-SIM cards and do not establish microSD-card support. Look for the tray outline and its small eject hole, taking care not to confuse it with the nearby microphone opening.
How to locate and open the Galaxy S21 SIM tray

Hold the phone with its top edge facing you and look for the outline of the SIM tray.

Identify the small eject hole in the tray. Samsung warns that a microphone opening is nearby, so check that the hole is part of the tray before inserting anything.

Insert the supplied SIM ejector pin straight into the tray hole, perpendicular to the phone, and press gently until the tray releases. Ease it out rather than forcing it. Samsung’s Galaxy S21 Series handling guidance explains the ejection and cautions about the nearby microphone opening.

Can you put an SD card in the Galaxy S21 tray?
No SD card should be placed in the SIM tray. Samsung describes the tray for nano-SIM cards; the support instructions cited here do not establish whether the Galaxy S21 supports microSD expansion, so they are not enough to confirm that it does or does not. The important distinction is that the top-edge tray is for SIM cards, not a place to insert a storage card.
Which SIM cards fit, and what about eSIM?
Samsung’s UK instructions say supported configurations can accommodate up to two nano-SIM cards. On dual-physical-SIM versions, the tray’s two sides are marked SIM 1 and SIM 2. eSIM is also available where supported by the network. Use a nano-SIM and make sure it sits firmly in the tray before reinserting it.
