The reset button’s location depends on your Blink Sync Module model: it is on the back of the Sync Module Core, Sync Module XR, and Sync Module 2, but on the side beside the USB port on the first-generation Sync Module. The light pattern helps confirm when the module is ready for setup.

Find the button on your model

Sync Module Button location How to press it
Core Back of the device Hold until the LED turns solid red, then release.
XR Back of the device Hold until the LED turns solid red, then release.
2 Back of the device Hold until the LED turns solid red, then release.
1st Gen Side of the device, next to the USB port Press the recessed button with a small, thin object such as a paperclip or toothpick until you feel it click.

These locations and instructions are from Blink Support’s model-specific reset instructions. For Core, XR, and Sync Module 2, use the rear button directly; the paperclip or toothpick example applies to the recessed first-generation button.

Read the LED before choosing a reset procedure

  • Blinking blue with solid green: The module is ready for setup or pairing.
  • Solid red during setup: The module cannot connect to the network, or the Wi-Fi password may be incorrect.
  • Solid blue with blinking green: The module is offline and trying to reconnect.

LED meanings and reset cues are described in Blink’s reset guidance and Sync Module troubleshooting guide.

Changing Wi-Fi is different from a factory reset

If you only need to move the module to another Wi-Fi network, use the Blink app’s Sync Module > Change Wi-Fi Network flow. Blink says reconfiguring the network does not delete saved clips. Follow the app’s prompts to put the module into its temporary setup state rather than using the factory-reset sequence. See Blink’s Wi-Fi settings instructions.

Blink Add-On Sync Module 2
  • Conveniently control all of your Blink devices right from the Blink Home Monitor app with the Blink Sync Module 2. The Sync Module 2 connects up to 10 of any Blink Indoor, Blink Outdoor, XT2, XT, Video Doorbell and Blink Mini devices (not required for Mini).
  • Supports local video storage for up to 10 Outdoor, Indoor, Video Doorbell and Mini devices. Record and store motion clips when you insert a USB flash drive (up to 256 GB – sold separately) into the Blink Sync Module 2. Does not support live view recording.
  • View, share, and download locally stored motion alerts from Outdoor, Indoor, Video Doorbell and Mini devices through the Blink app anytime or watch the footage on your computer by plugging in the USB flash drive (sold separately).
  • No monthly fees are required to use local video storage functionality. Local video storage functionality is not compatible with Blink XT2, XT, and 1st generation Indoor cameras.

When a factory reset is actually needed

Blink documents a separate factory-reset sequence: unplug the module, hold its reset button while plugging it back in, keep holding for five seconds, and release when the LED begins blinking red. The module cycles through LED patterns; blinking blue with solid green signals that it is ready for setup. Use this procedure when troubleshooting calls for a factory reset, not merely to change Wi-Fi networks. Refer to Blink’s factory-reset instructions for the model-specific guidance.

Try these checks before escalating

For a module that is offline or failing setup, Blink recommends checking the LED pattern, confirming network compatibility, and verifying the Wi-Fi password. Its troubleshooting guidance also includes power-cycling the router and Sync Module, re-entering Wi-Fi settings when appropriate, and temporarily disconnecting Wi-Fi pods or extenders to simplify the connection.
