For a long-term mixed-resource base, build on the Verdant Brook summit around (190, -40). Current 1.0 map data lists about eight Coal and eight Ore there, and the high terrain is described as difficult for raids to reach. If you want the largest reported Ore-and-Coal cluster in one base circle, use the Devout Mineshaft ridge at (26, -137), listed with 10 Coal and 12 Ore. For a coal-focused outpost, the area north of Duneshelter at (327, 485) has nine Coal and three Ore. These are node-placement counts, not guaranteed hourly yields; respawn timing is not included in the extracted data.
Best Coal locations at a glance
Coal becomes a serious progression material once you need Refined Ingots and Carbon Fiber. The best location depends on whether you value a mixed mining base, maximum Coal in one base circle, a simple manual route, or a cooler and flatter building site.

Different map datasets use slightly different names for nearby places. Verdant Brook peak and the Sealed Realm of the Swift area, for example, can appear as alternate labels for a similar coordinate set. Use the coordinates and visible node cluster rather than relying on a place name alone.
Which spot should you choose?
Best all-purpose base: Verdant Brook peak
The summit around (190, -40) is the strongest compromise for a permanent base. The cited 1.0 knowledge base lists roughly eight Coal and eight Ore, so the same workers can support both fuel-intensive crafting and Refined Ingot production. The elevated position is also reported as difficult for raids to path to, reducing one of the biggest risks of an exposed resource base.

Expect uneven summit terrain. Before placing the Palbox, walk the entire plateau and check that the Coal and Ore nodes sit within the intended work area. Leave enough level ground for storage, beds and production stations instead of covering every usable tile with structures. A coordinate variant of (190, -41) may point to the same summit in another map reference.
Largest mixed cluster: Devout Mineshaft ridge
Palworld.tools’ 2026 analysis reports 10 Coal and 12 Ore inside one base circle at (26, -137), the highest combined count in the reviewed locations. This is the efficient choice when your priority is raw node count and you can tolerate a less convenient approach. The nearest fast-travel point is about 190 meters away, so bringing materials back on foot can be slower until the base is established.

Confirm that the nodes still appear in your game before committing construction, because map labels and placements can change with patches.
Best Coal-focused outpost: north of Duneshelter
The cluster north of Duneshelter at (327, 485) is listed with nine Coal and three Ore. It maximizes Coal relative to Ore among the leading sites and is therefore a good satellite base for players whose main settlement already has dependable Ore. The nearby Deep Sands Dunes point, around (319, 499), is listed separately with eight Coal and can serve as a manual mining destination if you do not want to build immediately.
The desert is the cost of this density. Plan for a hot daytime cycle and colder nights. Carry the appropriate temperature protection before traveling, and avoid leaving a character or worker exposed while you build. A desert base can be productive, but its environmental requirements make it less forgiving than the Verdant Brook summit for a first permanent mining camp.
Best early manual route: Deep Sands Dunes
GameSkinny identifies Deep Sands Dunes as the largest of its highlighted manual clusters, with eight Coal nodes around the marked point. Travel there, mine the visible nodes, and return through fast travel rather than carrying a full load across the desert. This approach is economical before you have enough infrastructure or workers to justify a second base.

Do not interpret “eight nodes” as eight guaranteed Coal per minute or per trip. The figure is a location count, and the cited extracted data does not provide respawn timing. The actual amount you collect depends on your tool, inventory capacity, mining speed and whether other players or workers have already depleted the nodes.
Lower-density alternatives
Twilight Dunes southeast at (-98, -121) has six reported Coal nodes and is a reasonable desert stop when it is closer to your current route. The western Twilight Dunes area near Anubis at (-158, -93) has five and is the more modest early-desert option. Mount Obsidian near the Anubis Statue at (-570, -652) is also listed with six, but volcanic heat and rough traversal make it a specialist trip rather than a comfortable starter base.
Bamboo Groves Watchtower at (-233, -365) offers five reported Coal nodes on comparatively flat, accessible ground. Choose it when construction simplicity and approachability matter more than maximum density. It is easier to lay out than a summit or volcanic slope, but it will not match the output potential of the top clusters.
Why Coal matters in progression
Coal is not merely a fuel pickup. It combines with Ore to make Refined Ingots, a material used by many mid-game crafting paths, and it is also required for Carbon Fiber. As production expands, Coal can become the limiting input even when your Ore stockpile looks healthy. That is why an Ore-and-Coal site often outperforms a Coal-only site for a main base: one trip or automated workforce supports both sides of the Refined Ingot recipe.

The game’s progression also includes a Coal Mine technology. Once you unlock that production option, a remote Coal node base becomes less important because Coal can be generated at a base. The reviewed pages do not agree on the exact unlock level, so check your current Technology menu rather than following an old level number.
How to farm Coal manually
- Pick a cluster that fits your route. Use Deep Sands Dunes for the eight-node manual option, North of Duneshelter for a nine-Coal desert cluster, or the nearest six-node Twilight Dunes or Mount Obsidian location when travel time is the deciding factor.
- Prepare for the biome. Desert and volcanic sites have temperature hazards. Equip heat protection for daytime desert or volcanic travel and plan for the colder desert night cycle before starting a long mining session.
- Travel through a fast-travel point. The goal is to minimize the distance you carry mined material. Devout Mineshaft ridge, for example, is listed about 190 meters from its fast-travel point.
- Clear the cluster methodically. Start at one edge and work around the marked area so you do not miss nodes behind rocks or on a different elevation. Keep an eye on your carry capacity before breaking the final node.
- Return before becoming encumbered. Deposit Coal at your nearest base, then repeat the route. A shorter trip with slightly fewer nodes can outperform a distant maximum-density cluster when you are mining by hand.
Manual farming is most useful early, while you are still unlocking infrastructure or waiting for a permanent base location. Once you have workers and a suitable Palbox position, use the same cluster as an automated source instead of repeatedly making the journey yourself.

How to set up an automated Coal base
1. Verify the nodes before building
Walk the intended location and count the visible Coal and Ore deposits. Coordinates are references, not a guarantee that every map version uses the same label or exact placement. If a node sits just outside the planned work area, move the Palbox before placing production buildings.
2. Put the Palbox where the deposits are covered
Place the Palbox so the Coal nodes you want harvested fall inside its base circle. On a mixed site, prioritize the overlap that gives you the most useful combination of Coal and Ore rather than forcing every distant node into the perimeter. A slightly smaller cluster that workers can reach reliably is preferable to a nominally larger count outside the work area.
3. Assign Mining-capable workers
The reviewed location guide specifies Mining level 2 or better for assigned Ore work. Use workers with the required Mining suitability for the Coal deposits, then add Transporting-capable workers so mined material reaches storage instead of remaining beside the node. Check each worker’s suitability in the Pal management interface after assigning it; a worker can be excellent at one task and unsuitable for another.
4. Keep storage and production close
Place storage where transporters can reach it without crossing the entire base. Put furnaces and other Coal-consuming stations near the same storage chain so you can see whether the bottleneck is mining, hauling or smelting. Avoid blocking the path between a node and the storage area with decorative structures.
5. Monitor the base before expanding
Let the base operate long enough to identify its actual constraint. If Coal piles up beside nodes, add or improve Transporting capacity. If nodes remain untouched, inspect Mining suitability and worker assignment. If both resources are collected but Refined Ingots are still slow, the limiting step may be furnace throughput rather than Coal availability.

The ranking is a dataset assessment, not a promise of a fixed production rate; pathing, assignment and transport still determine what reaches storage.

Tetroise
The same dataset says Tetroise provides a flat +1 mining suitability rank to other workers. This makes it useful when you are trying to raise the effective mining capability of a team, but the practical result still depends on how the game applies that bonus in your current version. Confirm the displayed suitability after deployment instead of assuming the bonus affects every worker identically.
Turtacle Terra for carry weight
Mobalytics attributes an 80% weight reduction for Sulfur and Coal to Turtacle Terra while mining. This is a carrying aid for manual runs, not an increase in the number of Coal nodes. It is most valuable when you are making repeated trips to a remote desert or volcanic cluster and want to stay in the field longer before returning to storage.
Choosing between a Coal-only and mixed-resource base

A mixed base usually wins for a central settlement because Refined Ingots consume both inputs. A Coal-only outpost makes more sense when your Ore supply is already automated or when you want a dedicated reserve that does not compete with your main base’s production space.

- Summits: Verdant Brook’s elevation can make building and access awkward, but the reported raid-pathing difficulty is a meaningful defensive advantage.
- Ridges and mine approaches: Devout Mineshaft has the strongest reported combined count, yet its distance from fast travel adds carrying time before the base is operational.
- Deserts: North of Duneshelter, Deep Sands Dunes and Twilight Dunes require heat planning during the day and protection against the night temperature drop.
- Volcanic slopes: Mount Obsidian adds heat and traversal hazards, so it is best treated as a specialist mining route.
- Flat ground: Bamboo Groves Watchtower sacrifices node density for simpler construction and movement.
Do not place every facility immediately after reaching a coordinate. First test the terrain with the Palbox preview, check that workers can reach each node, and reserve a safe area for storage and production. A high node count has little value if workers become stuck or spend most of their time walking around a cliff.
Coal counts, respawns and patch changes
The published figures are static placement or guide counts. Palworld.tools states that its node counts are exact for its mapped locations, while PalMods reports 827 static Coal placements in extracted Palworld 1.0 data. PalMods also states that respawn timing is not included. Consequently, no cited figure establishes a guaranteed Coal-per-hour rate, and a base with 10 nodes is not automatically twice as productive as one with five.
Coordinates, labels, worker rankings and technology availability can change when Palworld is patched or map data is revised. Recheck the visible cluster in your current game, especially before moving a permanent base. Treat (190, -40) and (190, -41), and similar nearby naming differences, as map-reference variants until the terrain confirms whether they identify the same summit.

Common problems and fixes
Coal nodes are outside the base area
Move the Palbox and preview the work area again. A coordinate can point to the center of a cluster while one or more deposits sit beyond the usable circle. It is better to cover fewer nodes cleanly than to leave workers repeatedly attempting unreachable deposits.

Check their Mining suitability and confirm that the assigned level meets the guide’s stated requirement of Mining level 2 or better. Remove and reassign a worker if the task assignment did not register, then watch whether the worker reaches a node rather than becoming occupied by another base task.
Coal is mined but never reaches storage
Add or reassign Transporting-capable workers and clear obstacles along the route. Storage placement matters: a container on the far side of a cliff can turn a productive node into a pile of items left on the ground.
You overheat or freeze during a desert run
Carry the temperature protection appropriate to the time of day and avoid beginning a long mining circuit immediately before the desert night cycle. If preparation is limited, choose Verdant Brook or Bamboo Groves instead of a desert site until your equipment improves.
The expected node count is different
Check whether you are using the same coordinate set and map label as the guide. Nearby areas can be named differently, and future patches can alter placements. Count the deposits in your current world rather than assuming an older map figure still applies exactly.

Choose Verdant Brook peak for the best long-term balance of Coal, Ore and reported raid resistance. Choose Devout Mineshaft ridge when the highest combined count matters more than fast-travel convenience. Choose North of Duneshelter for a dedicated Coal reserve, or Deep Sands Dunes for the most compact manual route cited by the location guides. If you have already unlocked Coal production, compare the ongoing value of a remote node base with the space and worker cost of producing Coal at an existing settlement.
