To buy the main game, look for Xenoblade Chronicles 2 for Nintendo Switch. That is the base-game product. Do not substitute a listing for Xenoblade Chronicles 2: Torna – The Golden Country, the Expansion Pass, or a Nintendo Switch 2 Edition upgrade: each is a different purchase.
You can find the base game as a physical Nintendo Switch cartridge or as a digital purchase through the Nintendo eShop when it is listed for your region. Stock, pricing, seller terms, and regional availability change, so verify the live product page immediately before paying.
Identify exactly what you are buying
Several Xenoblade Chronicles 2 products use similar wording. Product titles and included contents matter more than the cover image or a search-result headline.

Xenoblade Chronicles 2: the base game
This is the item required to play the original Xenoblade Chronicles 2 adventure. A listing should identify the game itself for Nintendo Switch, either as a cartridge or a digital license. If the page says only “Torna,” “Expansion Pass,” “DLC,” or “upgrade pack,” it is not the base game.

Torna – The Golden Country
Torna is a separate, standalone story release set 500 years before the events of Xenoblade Chronicles 2. It is not simply a disc or download containing the original campaign under a different name.
Expansion Pass
Nintendo documents the Expansion Pass as additional content for Xenoblade Chronicles 2. It includes the Torna story content along with other downloadable-content packs. Buying an Expansion Pass does not replace buying the base game when you do not already own it.
Nintendo Switch 2 Edition upgrade
Nintendo also lists a separately sold Nintendo Switch 2 Edition upgrade pack. Treat it as an add-on, not as a standalone copy of Xenoblade Chronicles 2. The upgrade documentation lists 4K resolution in TV mode, full-HD handheld resolution at 60 frames per second, and additional content. Confirm the console and account requirements on the current listing before checkout.

Where to look for the base game
Digital purchase through Nintendo eShop
Search the Nintendo eShop on the console or through Nintendo’s current digital storefront for the complete title “Xenoblade Chronicles 2.” Read the product description until it explicitly identifies the base game. A result labeled Expansion Pass, Torna, downloadable content, or Switch 2 Edition upgrade is a different item.

- Open the eShop with the Nintendo Account that will play the game.
- Search for “Xenoblade Chronicles 2,” then open the full product page rather than purchasing from a search-result shortcut.
- Check the title, publisher description, supported system and territory shown for your account.
- Review the purchase summary to ensure it is the game itself and not a pass or upgrade.
- After payment, download from the same account. If content appears missing, Nintendo’s support guidance directs you to use the account that purchased the DLC or digital entitlement.
Nintendo says the Expansion Pass and Switch 2 Edition upgrade pack are available through Nintendo eShop on the listed systems and also mentions Nintendo Store. Store catalogs can differ by country and can change, so a result visible in one territory may not appear in another.
Physical new or used cartridge
For a cartridge, use a retailer or used-game marketplace that displays the complete title, platform, condition and seller information. The listing should say Nintendo Switch and Xenoblade Chronicles 2, not merely Xenoblade Chronicles or Torna.

- Read the condition description and inspect photographs for the cartridge label, case and any included inserts.
- Check who is actually selling the item, the return window, shipping cost and estimated delivery date.
- Verify the seller’s current stock status at checkout; an older cached page is not proof that the item remains available.
Specific regional compatibility was not independently verified here. If you are importing a cartridge or buying from another territory, ask the seller and consult the console and store-region information shown on the listing before ordering.
Does Torna include the DLC?
There are two different meanings of “Torna,” and they lead to different buying expectations.
Standalone Torna release
Nintendo Support states that the standalone Torna release contains the same Torna story content found in the Expansion Pass and includes a code for Expansion Pass DLC packs 1–4. Nintendo also states that those four packs are playable in Xenoblade Chronicles 2 only.

That code is important when buying second-hand. It may have been printed in the box but redeemed by the previous owner. A used seller cannot guarantee a working entitlement unless the seller confirms that the code is physically present and unused, and even then you should understand that code validity can only be established by redemption through the appropriate account and store.
Expansion Pass purchase
The Expansion Pass is the digital route to Torna story content plus the other documented DLC packs. It is an add-on for Xenoblade Chronicles 2, so make sure the base game is already attached to the same Nintendo Account or is included in your planned purchase.
What the code does not do
The Torna-included code is not a replacement copy of the base game. If you buy a standalone Torna box expecting it to unlock the original Xenoblade Chronicles 2 campaign, you may end up without the product you wanted.
What to check before buying a used copy
1. Product identity
Match the exact title on the listing, spine and cartridge. “Xenoblade Chronicles 2” is the base game; “Torna – The Golden Country” is the separate story release. Do not infer contents from a similar-looking case.
2. Physical versus digital format
Confirm whether you receive a cartridge, a sealed package, or a one-time download code. A photograph of a case does not prove that the cartridge or an unused code is inside.

3. Torna code status
If the listing is standalone Torna, ask the seller three direct questions: Is the code card included? Has the code ever been redeemed? Will the seller accept a return if the code is invalid? Get the answer in the marketplace’s message system so it is part of the transaction record.
4. Account and region
For digital DLC, use the Nintendo Account that made the purchase. Check the store territory and supported console shown on the listing. Do not assume an imported code will work with a different regional eShop.
5. Cartridge and case condition
Look for clear images of the cartridge contacts, label and case. Ask whether the cartridge has been tested, whether the original case is included, and whether any damage affects insertion or reading. Cosmetic wear is different from a cartridge that fails to launch.
6. Seller and return protection
Read the seller rating, dispatch location, return terms and exclusions for redeemed codes. If the seller marks the item “as is” or refuses returns, price that risk into your decision; a low listing price is not a bargain if a promised code is unusable.

How to choose among the four purchase paths
You want the original adventure
Buy the base-game listing titled Xenoblade Chronicles 2. Add the Expansion Pass later only if you want its additional content and Torna story.

You want only the earlier-set Torna story
The standalone Torna release is the direct story product. Remember that its included packs 1–4 code is supplementary and, according to Nintendo, those packs function in Xenoblade Chronicles 2 only.
You already own Xenoblade Chronicles 2 and want all documented add-on content
Compare the Expansion Pass listing with any standalone Torna offer. The pass provides Torna content and other DLC digitally; a standalone used copy may carry code risk.
You are moving to Nintendo Switch 2
Look for the separately identified Nintendo Switch 2 Edition upgrade pack. Verify that the page describes an upgrade for an owned game rather than a full-game bundle, and check the listed resolution, frame-rate and added-content details for your territory.

Common listing mistakes and how to avoid them
Mistaking a cover image for included content
Retail pages sometimes group related products in one search result. Open the individual SKU and read its contents. A Torna image or “DLC” badge is a warning to stop and re-check.
Assuming “complete edition” means one cartridge
Descriptions can combine a physical game with a separate download code. Find out which content is on the cartridge and which requires redemption before buying, especially when the item is used.
Buying an upgrade without the underlying game
An upgrade pack is not the same as the base game. Confirm ownership requirements and the compatible console before payment.
Relying on old prices or stock claims
Prices, inventory and regional listings are volatile. Check the date and seller status on the live page, then review the final cart total, taxes, shipping and return terms.

- Check the title in your purchase history and confirm whether you bought the base game, Torna, Expansion Pass or an upgrade.
- Open the eShop with the Nintendo Account that completed the purchase; Nintendo’s support instructions specifically use that account when troubleshooting DLC access.
- For a used Torna box, inspect the packaging again for the code card and compare the seller’s written description with what arrived.
- If a code was already redeemed or is absent, contact the seller or marketplace under its stated return policy. Nintendo cannot turn a used, previously redeemed code into a new entitlement.
- For region or console mismatches, stop attempting additional redemptions and verify the territory and supported system shown on the original listing.
Final pre-checklist
- Does the title explicitly say Xenoblade Chronicles 2 if you need the base game?
- Is the format clearly cartridge or digital?
- Are the console and store territory suitable for your setup?
- If it is Torna, is the code for packs 1–4 included and confirmed unused?
- If it is an Expansion Pass or Switch 2 upgrade, do you already own the compatible base game?
- Have you checked the current seller, condition, returns, shipping and final price?
When those answers are clear, the safest purchase is the listing whose product title matches the content you actually want: Xenoblade Chronicles 2 for the original game, Torna for its separate prequel story, the Expansion Pass for digital add-ons, or the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition upgrade for the separately documented enhanced version.
