For used DVDs nearby, start with dedicated media resale shops and game stores that also sell movies, then check library sales and thrift stores. Search by city or ZIP code, and call the specific location to confirm it carries DVDs and has the title you want before making the trip. If local searches come up short, an online used-media shop can help with hard-to-find movies and box sets.
Where to look for used DVDs nearby
Media resale and game stores
Dedicated media shops and some game resale stores are often the most useful places to browse for movies. The Buy Physical Media map lets you search by city, state, or category and filter for DVD retailers. Its directory is a discovery tool, not confirmation that a listed shop has a particular movie in stock, so check the store directly.
Disc Replay lists movies and TV shows alongside games and electronics. The chain reports 38 locations across Illinois, Iowa, Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky, Georgia, Michigan, and Tennessee. It says its items are cleaned and tested, but availability and store policies can differ; contact your branch about current stock and terms.
Some resale shops are highly local. For example, Goodwill Industries of the Southern Piedmont lists Rewind, a record and media shop at 100 West Matthews Street in Matthews, North Carolina. Its page lists DVDs at $3.99 each or three for $10, says most sales are final, and describes a listening room for testing media. These are details for that location, not a general Goodwill price or policy.

Library sales and Friends of the Library shops
Public libraries and Friends groups sometimes sell donated used media through ongoing shops or occasional events. Check your local library system’s website for terms such as “used media sale,” “Friends bookstore,” or “DVD sale,” and confirm which branch participates.
For examples of how much these programs differ, Douglas County Libraries describes its Second Chapter used bookstores, sale events, an Amazon Marketplace bookstore, and acceptance of DVD donations. Naperville Public Library says its ongoing used book and media sale is available at all its locations; its page lists DVDs and Blu-rays for 50 cents. The same page says prices and variety can vary, items are sold as-is, and refunds or returns are not available. Those prices and terms apply to the named library system, not to library sales generally.

Thrift stores
Chain locators can help identify nearby thrift-store branches, but a locator does not show that a particular store sells DVDs or has a specific title. Use it to find a location, then call that branch and ask about its current media selection.

- Search by location and store type. Try your city or ZIP code with “used DVDs,” “media resale,” or “used media sale.” Use a physical-media map or a retailer’s store locator to find candidates.
- Check the individual branch. Confirm the address and hours, ask whether it sells DVDs, and ask whether the title or box set is currently available. The sources listed here do not provide live, title-level inventory for your area.
- Ask about condition and price. If possible, inspect the disc for damage and ask whether the store tests discs. Prices depend on the seller and item; there is no nationally representative price figure established by the sources here.
- Check the return policy before paying. Ask whether the purchase is final sale, as-is, or returnable, and under what conditions. Library sales and resale shops can have different rules.
Choosing between local stores and online sellers

Local shops and library sales avoid shipping, but their selection may be unpredictable. Online catalogs can be easier to search for a specific title, although the exact listing and its terms still need checking.

When local searches do not find the title
Loved Again Media lists DVD movies and describes used DVDs in its inventory. Its current page says discs are inspected and graded Good, Very Good, or Like New; US shipping is free over $25 by Media Mail, with one-to-two-day handling; and returns are accepted within 14 days. Confirm the exact listing and checkout terms, since stock and policies can change.
Collectors looking for rare or out-of-print releases may also encounter Orbit DVD. Its page says it is currently not buying most DVDs, with exceptions for rare, out-of-print, horror, or cult titles, and excludes common mass-produced DVDs. It is therefore not a general source for ordinary used DVDs.
