The Hoid’s Storybook Collection crowdfunding campaign is closed, so it is not an open route for a new pledge. Dragonsteel announced that the four picture books would receive other editions, but the official information available for this article does not establish a live, in-stock retail listing. Check the Dragonsteel Books store for the current product page, then verify the exact edition, contents, shipping and taxes before paying.
What is available now?
The original BackerKit campaign ended on March 29, 2026. Its campaign page should therefore be treated as a record of the project, not as a checkout page for a new customer. Dragonsteel’s March 3, 2026 campaign explanation said the books would be offered in other editions after the campaign, but that announcement did not confirm a current store listing or inventory.
For a new purchase, begin at the Dragonsteel Books store and search for the collection or for the individual titles. If no product page appears, or if a page is marked sold out, do not assume that the campaign tier can still be ordered elsewhere. A marketplace result may be a different edition, a reseller listing, or a single book rather than the four-book set.
Existing backers have a different path. Their order details, selected tier, add-ons and shipping address are tied to the BackerKit survey for that pledge. A retail listing cannot replace the survey or convert a campaign pledge into a new order.

What the four-book collection contains
The collection’s core is four illustrated hardcover picture books. Dragonsteel presented them as expanded versions of stories that appeared in the Stormlight Archive or in Dragonsteel’s Story Deck. Check the title line and contents list carefully, because the campaign also offered a separate Hoid novel.
| Picture book | What to verify on a listing |
|---|---|
| The Dog and the Dragon | Whether the listing supplies the hardcover edition and includes it as part of a four-book set or sells it separately. |
| Wandersail | Whether the seller identifies the intended illustrated storybook edition, rather than a different Stormlight-related product. |
| The Girl Who Looked Up | Whether it is included in the collection; do not infer inclusion from a photograph alone. |
| The ChasmFriends Get a Pet | Whether the spelling and title match the official listing and whether the book is part of the complete set. |
The Fires of December is not a fifth picture book. It is a separate Hoid’s Travails novel that appeared as another campaign offering. A page that mentions the novel may be selling only that book, not the storybook collection.
The campaign description attributes a Hoid line to Wandersail: “The purpose of a storyteller is not to tell you how to think, but to give you questions to think upon. Too often, we forget that.” That quotation helps identify the story context, but it does not identify a particular binding or guarantee that a listing contains all four books.
Campaign editions and later editions are not automatically identical
Dragonsteel described the picture books as hardcovers with dust jackets. Campaign materials also promoted special treatments, including gold foiling and guided editions. Those features were tied to the crowdfunding offering and should not be assumed to carry over to a later retail edition.

The separate The Fires of December campaign edition had additional presentation details, including printed or painted page edges. Dragonsteel said it planned to sell a red-cover version after the campaign without the campaign’s painted page ends. That example illustrates why a cover image alone is not enough: a later edition can have the same story while omitting a physical feature that mattered to collectors.
| Edition question | What is established | What you must confirm |
|---|---|---|
| Binding | The picture books were described as hardcovers with dust jackets. | Whether the specific retail page uses the same binding and includes a jacket. |
| Gold foil | Offered as a campaign feature. | Whether the later edition retains any foil; do not treat it as standard. |
| Guided version | Campaign materials listed guided editions. | Whether annotations or guidance are included in the product you are buying. |
| Printed or painted edges | Associated with the campaign presentation of The Fires of December. | Whether page edges are plain on the later red-cover edition or on another format. |
| Digital format | Not established as part of the four-book campaign collection. | Whether a listing is physical, digital, or a bundle of both. |
If a listing does not state a special finish, treat the feature as absent or unconfirmed rather than paying a premium based on a campaign photograph.
Choose the correct buying route
| Route | Best use | Important limitation |
|---|---|---|
| Dragonsteel Books store | Ordering a post-campaign edition directly from the publisher when a live product page exists. | Current stock, price and delivery terms are not established by the campaign announcements; read the live checkout. |
| BackerKit survey | Checking an existing campaign pledge, selected tier, add-ons and address. | It is for the original backer account and is not a new retail order window. |
| Marketplace listing | Considering a copy offered by a third-party seller when no direct-store copy is available. | Seller identity, edition, completeness and condition require independent verification. |
| Used or resale copy | Finding a discontinued campaign finish. | Dust jackets, guided materials and edge treatments may be missing or damaged; returns and authenticity vary. |
There is no verified current marketplace listing or price comparison to treat as an official source. If you search a marketplace, the phrase Hoid's Storybook Collection Brandon Sanderson can help locate results, but it does not prove that a result is genuine, complete or campaign-exclusive.

How to check a listing before ordering
- Start with the publisher. Open the Dragonsteel Books store from its official site and search the collection name and each title. Look for a product page that identifies the edition, format and stock status.
- Read the product title literally. Determine whether it says “collection,” names all four picture books, or names only one book. A title mentioning Hoid does not necessarily describe the set.
- Separate the novel. If The Fires of December appears, check whether it is a separate item or an explicitly documented bundle. Do not count it as one of the four storybooks.
- Confirm physical format. Look for hardcover and dust-jacket language, the number of volumes, and any statement about digital access. If those details are missing, ask the seller before ordering.
- Check special features. Search the description—not just the photographs—for gold foil, a guided edition, printed or painted edges, or other campaign-only treatments. Assume a later edition differs unless the listing says otherwise.
- Review seller and condition. On a marketplace, verify the seller name, edition identifiers, photographs of every volume and the return policy. A stock image cannot establish that all four books are present.
- Calculate the delivered total. Put the item in the cart, enter the delivery country and address, and inspect item price, shipping, taxes or VAT, and any import charge shown before payment.
- Save your evidence. Keep the order confirmation and a copy or screenshot of the contents and edition description. This gives you a reference if a seller sends a different format.
Shipping, tax and price checks
The campaign’s tier price did not include shipping. During that campaign, shipping varied with cart total and destination, while international orders could incur VAT and add-on shipping. Those historical terms do not establish the rates for a later Dragonsteel retail order or for a marketplace seller.

- Flawless 4K@60Hz Video with HDMI: Delivers exceptional clarity and smoothness with its 4K@60Hz HDMI port, making it ideal for high-definition presentations and entertainment. (Note: Only the HDMI port supports video projection; the USB-C port is for data transfer only.)
- Double Up on Efficiency: The two USB-A 3.0 ports and a USB-C port support a fast 5Gbps data rate, significantly boosting your transfer speeds and improving productivity.
- Fast and Reliable 85W Charging: Offers high-capacity, speedy charging for laptops up to 85W, so you spend less time tethered to an outlet and more time being productive.

For a current purchase, the only reliable figure is the final checkout total for your destination. Check whether tax is collected at checkout, whether customs or import fees are excluded, and whether multiple books change the shipping tier. A low headline price can become more expensive once international delivery or VAT is added.
Do not use a backer fulfillment estimate as a promise for a new order. Campaign production and retail inventory move through different processes, and a store page may have its own dispatch window.
What existing backers should do
Backers should sign in to the BackerKit account used for the campaign and open the project survey. Confirm the selected pledge tier, every add-on, the shipping address and any outstanding survey action. If an address has changed, follow the survey or support instructions rather than placing a duplicate retail order.
The latest project update, dated October 6, 2026, says tier rewards have begun shipping and are expected to finish before the end of November 2026. It separately expects add-ons to ship in 2027. Those are campaign fulfillment targets for backers; they are not delivery dates for someone buying a later edition from a store.

If a tier shipment is missing after the project’s stated window, compare the shipment notice with the survey contents and contact campaign support with the pledge email or order information. Keep add-ons separate in your records because their later schedule may not match the main tier shipment.
How to evaluate a marketplace copy
A third-party listing can be legitimate without being the edition shown in campaign publicity. Ask for the ISBN or other edition identifier when available, a photograph of the copyright and title pages, and a complete list of included volumes. For a collector-oriented purchase, request close images of foil, page edges and dust jackets.
- Seller: Is the seller clearly identified, and does the seller accept returns for a mismatched edition?
- Contents: Are all four picture books named individually, or is the description vague?
- Condition: Are jackets, slipcases, guided materials or edge treatments described as present and undamaged?
- Edition: Does the description distinguish campaign production from a later red-cover or standard edition?
- Total cost: Are shipping, taxes and possible import charges visible before purchase?
Be cautious with listings that call a copy “exclusive” without identifying the feature that makes it exclusive. A campaign photograph, a signed-looking image or the word “limited” is not proof of provenance.

Trying to pledge after the deadline
The closed campaign page may still display tiers and project information. That does not make those tiers available for new pledges. Use it to understand what was offered, then look for a separately published retail edition.

Buying the novel by mistake
The name The Fires of December can appear alongside the storybooks because it was part of the same campaign. Check the number and names of the books in the order summary before submitting payment.
Assuming every hardcover has campaign finishes
Gold foil, guided content and painted edges were campaign-related features. A later hardcover can preserve the story while using a simpler cover or plain page edges.
Confusing fulfillment with retail dispatch
Backer updates describe production and shipment of campaign rewards. They do not guarantee when a newly purchased store copy will leave the warehouse.

Relying on a search result without checking stock
Search engines and marketplaces can show old, cached or third-party pages. Open the seller’s current checkout, confirm availability and review the delivered total before treating a result as buyable.
A practical decision rule
Buy directly from Dragonsteel when a live listing clearly names the four picture books and states the edition you want. Use the BackerKit survey only to manage an existing pledge. Consider a marketplace or resale copy only after you have matched the seller’s contents and edition details to your collecting goal and calculated the full delivered cost. If no page provides enough information to make that comparison, wait rather than assuming that the campaign edition is still available.
